Spoken like someone who has not seen the movie…I have not either… seeing it July 4th, but from what I have heard Phoebe Waller-Btidge is no different from when the other ladies followed Indiana around in other installments
Without going into spoilers, it is clear from the film that someone at Lucasfilm (*cough* look at the photo *cough*) made this film with the goal of spinning off Phoebe Waller-Bridge's character into her own franchise of movies. My guess is that at the last minute (possibly after initial screenings of the film), someone got cold feet and hedged their bets a little. It is exactly the same thing that happened with Shia Labeouf's character in the Crystal Skull film. Regardless, nobody was using any of original trilogy as a backpocket spinoff vehicle for Marion Ravenwood, or Willie Scott, or the Elsa (the Austrian Nazi collaborator).

Are you nuts? Marvel fans have been treated better than they could ever have hoped to be treated. There are four Thor movies! Thanos is an internationally known villain! There are more Spider-Man films then Superman films! That would have been INSANE to suggest in 2005!

haha, that's fair enough, but on the flip side you have the director of two of those Thor films saying he made them specifically with the goal to make fans of the comics angry, and that he didn't like the comics and bragged about not reading a single one. And that they sucked and were written stupid. In some ways we were treated well for a while there, but I think it got to the point where Marvel forgot it was comics fans that made all this possible in the first place, and they really no longer appreciated that fact. Hence why they didn't want to be pitched films by people who liked the comics, and that such a thing would be a red flag because they're still under the impression comics are weird and they kind of want to keep their distance from them in the ways that they can.

thank god I'm not a hardcore Lucasfilms fan. Yall are treated like $#!% 🤣

It has been pretty bad. It's tough when talentless hacks take every single thing you're a fan of and rip it apart, crush, and replace it.

Star Wars- Legacy characters beaten down, their legacy destroyed, killed, replaced with 'better, younger', poorly written characters.
Willow- Legacy character beaten down, their legacy destroyed, replaced with 'better, younger', poorly written characters.
Indiana Jones- Legacy character beaten down, their legacy destroyed, replaced with a 'better, younger', poorly written character.

It's the exact same thing across the board. The defense is, well it'd be fan serveice and lazy to give the fans what they want. Well, when your supposedly better resulting product is crap, there's no excuse. Look at this gem from Star Trek: Picard (which its first two seasons were going along the same Lucasfilm path (do NOT watch them), but then they suddenly got smart and somehow gave us a great season 3)-

The future of those franchises is nonexistent or on life support, thanks in large part to the quizzical decisions by Lucasfilm’s powers that be to constantly cast Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Erin Kellyman.

Except there is no love interest and she is a snarky, has no respect and belittles Indy the entire time. There is a lot of anger in her. Which is weird because she loves her godfather as a child. It is also weird she knew nothing about Mutt even though she is about the same age and probably could have gone to Indy's wedding.

True. No love interest and definitely looking out for her own $ interests.

There's a thread for spoilers and reviews with spoilers....

If you want to believe the conspiracy theories spouted off by internet trolls with an anti-Disney agenda

Where did I say I expect ?

There is a percentage chance.

If you have a life threatening disease would you prefer a 20% chance or 0%?
Sadly this is where I’m at also, and I’m a big Iger fan, I love nearly everything he did in the parks prior to the late 20teens and he oversaw a decade and a half of amazing movies (the Star Wars franchise being the one major disappointment). That said the last 5 years has been a steady decline, the parks are getting worse, the movies are getting worse, the TV shows are getting worse... they should have let him retire when he wanted to and moved on to someone with fresh ideas (not Chapek), pre 2018 Disney and post 2018 feel like 2 completely different companies.

As an Iger fan I‘d like to place the blame solely on Chapek (who took over the parks in 2018), Kennedy (who took over SW in 2012), etc but Iger lead the people who caused the decline, he owns it.

I think Disney needs a complete rebuild at the top, from the parks, to the studios, to pixar, to Star Wars, to the cruise line (the Wish is a mess), and maybe even Marvel (the one area I might leave as is). Everything has gotten worse, they need to turn this ship around quickly.

One of the most alarming things in your post is how you point out everything is in decline.

How do you have so many different business divisions and not one is a bright spot?

At some point you have to try new leadership.

I was a big Iger fan too and was thrilled he was back.

I was wrong. He isn’t leading, he’s giving everyone the freedom they apparently want to be creative but he then just throws them under the bus when it doesn’t work out to keep his image. He will never be responsible for anything going wrong

The whole top level management needs to go but sadly there’s nothing better coming in the foreseeable

You refuse to account for the social, political, and economic forces that shaped Iger and placed him where he is. Those forces have only grown since Iger took over. Unless there is AT LEAST a huge change in the board and, more generally, in the business philosophy that has governed America for 45 years or so, believing in a fundamental change in the nature of Disney leadership is largely fantasy.

"he’s giving everyone the freedom they apparently want to be creative.."

What?! Iger has been the most uncreative executive in the history of Hollywood. It's literally offensive that a guy like that is/was ever allowed to lead a Hollywood studio. He's been nothing but stonewalling new works in favor of forcing audiences to dip into sloppy seconds for well over fifteen years now.

Nobody is getting creative at an Iger company. It's literally written in the employee handbook.
