In Search of the Purple Cat & Other Wild Goose Chases

Introductions...and Day 1: Getting settled, getting snacks and heading Dowtown

Well, it's been about a week since we got back...I'm almost done editing and uploading pics...and I've channeled my inner Jennings Osborne and covered my house with lights as best as I can...so, I guess it's time to get this trip report rolling. I don't have many pics for this early section, but I promise you----I have a TON of pics...so please be patient.

If you had a chance to read my PTR, this trip was a surprise for my younger daughter's (Sammie) 4th bday. We also have a 6 yr old daughter named Kendall who got her own surprise WDW trip back for her 5th bday. Sadly- the surprise for Sammie kind of fizzled, but by our departure day (Nov 14th) they were bouncing off the ceiling with excitement.

First things first...I had to get our Daisy Doggy to doggy camp.

Yeah, the girls thought it would be fun to put an 'Ohana lei on her...that didn't last long.

There was MAJOR drama with boarding though...like, "am I going to miss my vacay for this?" kind of drama. Essentially, the girl who took my reservation booked me for October instead of November, and they were booked solid b/c my dates included Thanksgiving. It all worked out in the end, but it was a very ugly 45 minutes. Still, with the dog boarded, we were pretty much ready to go.

We hit the road from the Houston area around 8:15pm. The girls were so excited that they actually stayed awake much longer than expected, but they were both out before we crossed into Louisiana. They woke up each time we stopped for gas, but that was fine b/c it served as bathroom breaks for them and the people with the graveyard shifts at the various gas station convenience stores got a kick out of the girls' road trip bed time attire. They were both in Christmas pjs...Kendall an elf and Sammie as Santa. Kendall also had big furry bunny slippers and Sammie had her ladybugs.

I drove from Houston to the Alabama state line. I couldn't even tell you what time it was when DH took over for me. I went a bit crazy between eastern Louisiana and through Mississippi. I was drinking Diet Mountain Dew and had a couple 20oz diet Red Bulls + peanut butter M&Ms. Let's just say I was WIRED! Around midnight, several stations switched over to holiday music...so just picture me all energized, having a holiday sing a long in the driver's seat, dancing in my seat...and all while everyone else slept! Yeah- it's a good thing there was next to nobody on the road.

The rest of the drive was pretty uneventful. DH and I switched off a lot after that just so I could get in some naps. The griping came as we got closer to Orlando...he hates tolls. Still, it was the sign that we were almost there. I was hoping to get some great video of our arrival, but this was the trip where nothing choreographed would work for us. So, you have a pic just before we see the glorious Maingate...

Even my first arrival pic at Yacht Club was pretty pathetic...

I guess at least the pics I was able to get improved...

What really happened, DH and I had a misunderstanding about signs, where to go and what I'd be doing. In a nutshell, I didn't know he was expecting me to navigate. I did take a video (deleted), but it wasn't fit for all audiences.

We parked my vehicle and went to check in. I didn't want to mess with the bags if the room wasn't ready. It was about 3pm and I'd listed our estimated arrival time as 11:30am when doing online checkin. Not sure if it helped, but our room was ready. Which was good because I was a little let down that the guy who checked us in wasn't very enthusiastic or personable. So, since the room was ready we opted to check out the room before figuring out the bag situation. i.e. if it was close enough, we might bring in our own bags. Too bad our room was a million miles away...I swear, any farther and we'd be staying at the Dolphin.

The room was really nice though...a corner room on the 1st floor with a quiet pool from our patio view and a nice water area and lush greenery from our two side windows.

Now, we didn't want to end up on any rides with long lines that might make us miss our check in time, and we were also hoping to hit some things we had yet to do...so what do they all decide on... TEA CUPS. Yeah- about the last thing I want to ride before dinner.

Well, it seems it would be better to ride before dinner than afterwards. :confused:

Love, love, love your pictures of y'all on the carousel. So adorable! Thanks for the great details of BOG. A friend recently went but didn't mention the rose folded napkins or the snoring suits of armor. We may have to try lunch there.

I'd love a furry chair or the antler chandelier, but it wouldn't work for us. Although we live in the Hill Country, it's not our decor.

Again, great stories of CM interaction!

So I'm finally caught up!! YAY!!

Love all the pics of the lights. I never stopped to take in just how detailed of of them can be.

So glad you liked Garden Grille! We are brining our cousin on her first EVER WDW trip next fall (she will be 14) and that is one of the places we are going to book for dinner. Also, Akershus for breakfast. We will be doing CRT for breakfast in May. Super excited to try it out!!

The girls looked so pretty with their BBB outfits! They really are super adorable! It sounds like from your TR's that they have such wonderful little personalities! They may not get along all the time now but I'll tell ya, when they're my age, they will be thankful to have a sister so close in age. My sister is 27 and I'm 29 and she is my best friend :)

LOVED the cake for Sammie's birthday!! I remember looking at your sketches thinking how it would look and it is EXACTLY how I pictured it. Super awesome!! Cali Grill is one of my favorite meals and I'm bummed they're going to be closed when we go in the spring.

The Haunted Mansion meltdown.... no bueno! :( And they were so excited to ride it, too. That's the worst. But how great that Sammie loved BTMRR and Splash?! :)

I was hoping they'd let me just skip it.

Thanks! For some reason...carousel just always seems to = happy pictures. I'm hoping to finish up BoG tonight, so maybe a few more helpful details in that.

Jealous that you're in the hill country. It's so pretty compared to Houston.

Still building up to our #1 cast experience of this trip. Although, there are several good ones on the last day of the WDW content. I have more baking tonight, so not sure if I'll finish up this MK night or not. We shall see.

It sure was brutal! But in a good way for me... I'm a Patriots fan!! :D

Yeah- all of my Boston area friends were loving it. It also helps that Brady is truly an elite QB...that does wonders for a team. I usually can find some joy in the fact that the Texans are just my AFC team ... #1 team for me is the NY Giants... but their game this past weekend against Atlanta just made me want to cry.

So I'm finally caught up!! YAY!!

It often takes me 2 days to put up my own lights, so I'm just fascinated about how they have it all put together. Of course, I really need an electrician to do some custom work here if I want anything that really captures the vibe of Osborne Lights.

GG was a wonderful surprise. We have just done so many character meals over the last 3 trips and it really had the best character experiences we've had at one of these. CRT breakfast was awesome. It really is the first meal we've eaten there where the food seemed more worthy of the signature tag.

Thanks! it is fun getting to see them get all dolled up and see the personality differences surface in what they choose. I have a feeling they will be like that down the road as well. They have their sibling rivalry issues, but they also adore each other...so much so that they choose to share a room. I know there will come a time when they want more privacy and Sammie winds up back in her own room, but for now- it works.

They really stayed true to my design with the cake. It's nice being able to hand over a cake design and see it created in line with my vision. I have a few friends from college who are also in the same boat with Cali Grill, but I am curious to see what it's like after the renovation.

I'm debating about making them wait a few more years before they get on Haunted Mansion again. I mean, it was their choice to ride, but we don't want to go through that again. Still awesome that they loved the other rides. They were begging to go on Space Mountain...so maybe we'll get lucky and they'll be tall enough by our next visit. I can totally see them begging to go back into space again and again and again...:)

Sorry I had to cut it so short last night, but I had a cake to decorate...

It's going to be a short one tonight as well because I have to clean the disaster I left in the kitchen and then make cupcakes (and create a whole new disaster). Truth be told, I hate making cupcakes! ...but Kendall's teacher wanted me to make them for the class since she knows I do cakes and knows it's the only way Kendall is going to get a holiday cupcake she can eat.

So, when I left you last we were in BoG and waiting on food. Well, here's DH's French Onion Soup...

It was pretty awesome!

This DIVINE thing here is the meats platter...formerly listed as the charcuterie plate...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8237019118/]

My only complaint here is that the table was so small, this thing was hanging over the edge the whole time and at risk of being flipped. Still...it was AMAZING!!! Probably my 2nd favorite food item of the whole trip.

The girls both had the Mickey Meatloaf (turkey) which was brought out with our starters.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8237021724/]

We had another lull before the main course, so more pics of the ballroom...

I also got a little look at dessert!

We finally get our entrees...

DH got the steak, and while the preview pics showed something that just did not appeal... this looked pretty good and tasted very good.

I got the pork. It wasn't bad...the macaroni thingy though was very salty.

Now, I don't know if you have to be celebrating something, but I asked for "they grey stuff" and they gladly brought some out.

I am not a huge Oreo fan, but it was still pretty tasty.

Now time for the real desserts...

DH and Sammie each had the chocolate...Sammie "wore" hers. I mean, she was covered in chocolate because parts of it were so gooey. DH said it was good... Kendall also liked hers. And while I am disappointed that they went for a passion fruit puff vs a cupcake, the lemon option for cupcakes is really nice.

We were going to stop in to meet Beast after dinner, but the meal took so long and the line to meet him was super long since he was about to retire for the night...so we skipped it. As we were getting ready to head out the door, I heard a big BOOM! Yup- Wishes was starting!!!

And I turn around and see this lovely vision!

It was also around this time that our BoG server came running out after me...yeah- I left my KttW card inside. Nice move Sandy!

Up Next...More Wishes from BoG Bridge

I hate it when I can't remember all my comments I want to make. :oops:

Losing pins is the biggest concern I have with getting our boys into pin trading. Maybe just a few off ebay or something. [EDIT: I'll be on ebay tonight. :)]

Doesn't Kringla have a non coconut school bread? Maybe I heard Master Yoda incorrectly. I thought he said they did. I'm not a coconut fan either.

You've had so many good CM interaction stories. We're so pumped for our trip in 173 days.

What is the point of non coconut school bread? Isn't coconut one of the ingredients? Would it still be school bread without it? :)

I really don't like coconut. I thought coconut is just sprinkled on top, but if it's an ingredient in the mix, the hubby will let me know. He LOVES coconut.

I think this is one you could have with or without. I was reviewing a recipe on Allears...

http://www.allears.net/din/rec_sb.htm

...and since the coconut doesn't appear to be part of the actual dough, you could just substitute the topping for something like powdered sugar or maybe a light glaze and crushed nuts. I think the the dough a filling are more of what makes it School Bread vs. the coconut. Just my baking opinion :D

Great TR!! I LOVE your lighting photos. I'm one of those people who loves lighting and notices unique pieces-which is basically every fixture at Disney! Right on!

Thanks! The focus on the lighting really did make me realize just how many interesting and different fixtures and touches they have on everything. PotC was what really got me...it would be such an easy place to use the same style fixture over and over again, but they incorporate so many style variances to keep it interesting. Thanks for reading!!! And also, congrats on your engagement! :D

That's a really cool cake! You are very talented.

Thanks! It's not the best hobby for the waistline, but it's fun to see what I can make from cake and sugar. Last night's reporting was cut short so I could make these...

First time making it, but I'm officially a fan of gingerbread cake! YUM!

That's right, the girls wanted to visit our friend Pooh again!

And before leaving the queue...I'd like to note how we'd never noticed before how the hives buzz. Very cute!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8237129437/]

And now for an assortment of photos from the ride...some much better than others.

We still had one last set of those anytime anywhere MK fastpasses, but since Pooh didn't have a wait...we still had them to burn. So, we headed to the next place the girls wanted to go...

There was no wait here either. On top of that...while I beat my previous score, Kendall actually beat my score this time as well. It's not cool when your 6 year old wins...by A LOT!. DH is still talking about this, and apparently nobody wants to ride with mommy next trip because I can't win. Nice.

We opted for relaxation after this...

And even more MSEP pics...yea, I love this one. Even if it's not the original music and some of the floats have been removed or changed out...Baroque Hoedown reminds me of childhood Disney Trips...

It was around this time that I got worried because DH still hadn't come out. Turns out he had exited farther down the street and thought we'd meet him down there. Oh well...easy enough to find each other this time. And thankfully a bus was there waiting for us.

We get back to YC, we clean the girls up and get them in bed and the packing extravaganza begins. Summer trips are so easy because everything fits nicely in ziplock bags and I only need 1 season's worth of clothes, but this was just a crazy amount of clothing to get together due to the vast differences in the highs and lows. I got into bed, but I was up bright and early because we'd have to pack up/check out when leaving for our day at AK.

So, I think I made about 8 trips from our room to the car and back...and considering the walk...I was exhausted. I was also taking care not to bump the walls because these really sweet guys were painting the baseboards through that area just the day before. I swear, they were nicer and more personable than the bulk of the YC staff! Sorry, still kind of down about that.

DH was given the task of getting the stroller to Bell Services on the way out as well. The crabby lady was there when he went by and she was equally crabby today. She had him take it out to someone else and thankfully that all worked out because I don't want to be charged to replace a City Mini Double. But also a big yeah...because today would be the first time the girls would be entirely stroller free (even though it would be a shorter day) and it would mark the end of strollers for us at WDW altogether! WOOOHOOOO!!!!!

After days of relying on the bus, it felt strange to get into my vehicle and drive to a park. We waved good-bye to ToT on our way out of the area.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8237767959/]

It was morning EMH at AK, but we had so much packing to do that it was after regular park opening when we arrived. I guess it's a good think that Sammie asked me to cancel our Tusker ADR a couple of days earlier because there is no way we would have made it.

We park my vehicle in the dino area (which my phone autocorrected to DION in my reminder), and we boarded a tram...something I haven't done in like a million years.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8237766111/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8237764231/]

And we're on our way!!!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8238830592/]

At least it's a pretty day for our last Disney day...
