Impact of Universal Orlando's Super Bowl Offer on WDW?

As many of you may know, Universal Orlando will be giving away 100,000 7 day tickets as part of a Heroes Superbowl promotion.

More information can be found here: http://www.universalheroes.com/

My question is, what, if any impact do you believe this will have on Walt Disney World? I think the impact will be minimal, as only 100,000 tickets will be given out, which is a drop in the bucket. However, the Universal site does not indicate whether you are one of the first 100,000 people, so I'm sure a lot more will enter, possibly piquing their curiosity. Will this make anyone take a trip to Universal if they otherwise wouldn't? I doubt it. I just hope WDW responds somehow to this offer.

What do you all think?

(Please note, this topic is not a re-post or miscategorized. This is about the impact of the offer on WDW, not on the offer itself).

I think it's safe to say that most of those 100,000 people wouldn't be going if not for the offer.

How will it affect Disney? Hard to say. Not much, I'd think.

100,000 people is a large amount ... in one dose ... spread out over months of visits, it's like a drop in a bucket, I'd say.

100,000 people sounds like a lot, but if you know the ballpark of WDW admission numbers (30k at MK is a VERY slow day) then it's not much at all.

One free ticket per household... most families travel with 3 or more people, so it's more like saying that your group's tickets are 33% (or less) off.

And the 100,000 random people get the tickets -- how many of those are just filling out the form and will decide later if they are actually interested or not?

Also - let's see how quickly their server dies.

Increase Disney's attendance. You come down for 7 days, realize 7 days of Universal is triple dejavu, and head to "those Disney parks in the area".

Either that or nothing. This won't change minds who are thinking of going to Disney to make them switch to Universal.

Cool promotion none the less.

If I am not mistaken is the first 100,000 after each time the ad is played. Now, that can mean a boost in economy more people traveling more people eating and spending. Plus after 3 day at Universal some people may travel to Disney World or Sea World.

Actually it is the first 100,000 to send entry in after each of their commercials so it depends n how many commercials they have bought for the superbowl.

There is no doubt that 100,000 guests isn't a lot of people when you only count the winners of this promotion. But those 100,000 people aren't who Universal is going after. This gets their name out on the biggest TV event of the year ahead of their biggest theme park addition since Revenge of the Mummy. That's huge. Build on that momentum with the Harry Potter blitz that's about to hit the airwaves, that's even more huge.

The snowball has to start rolling somewhere folks!

PersonallyI think this boost the WDW attendance because 7 days will most likely bore anyone going to Universal that long. The will cave and head to Disney where 7 days is almost not enough. :animwink:

I agree with those that think the impact will be minimal. I actually think that Disney's new pass for members of the military and their families will have more impact than this.

That said, this does mean more people in O-town...and that's a good thing for Florida's economy!

Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Promotion or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or any other promotion or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Any attempt by any person to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the Promotion may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Sponsor’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.

10. Limitations of Liability: The Released Parties are not responsible for: (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by entrants, printing errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Promotion; (2) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (3) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Promotion; (4) technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the Promotion or the processing of entries; (5) late, lost, undeliverable, damaged or stolen mail; or (6) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Promotion or receipt or use or misuse of any prize. If for any reason an entrant's entry is confirmed to have been erroneously deleted, lost, or otherwise destroyed or corrupted, entrant’s sole remedy is another entry in the Promotion, provided that if it is not possible to award another entry due to discontinuance of the Promotion, or any part of it, for any reason, Sponsor, in its sole discretion, may elect to hold a random drawing from among all eligible entries received up to the date of discontinuance for any or all of the prizes offered herein. No more than the stated number of prizes will be awarded. In the event that production, technical, seeding, programming or any other reasons cause more than the stated number of prizes as set forth in these Official Rules to be available and/or claimed, Sponsor reserves the right to award only the stated number of prizes by a random drawing among all legitimate, un-awarded, eligible prize claims.

11. Disputes: Except where prohibited, entrant agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Promotion or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan (Southern Division) or the appropriate Michigan State Court located in Oakland County, Michigan; provided, however, that claims for bodily injury, personal injury, or property damage arising out of the redemption, use or misuse of any prize must be submitted to the jurisdiction and venue of the federal and state courts of the State of Florida, and construed and enforced in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida; (2) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Promotion, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (3) under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. Maybe I missed it, but it doesn't say anything about expiration or if the tickets must be used consecutively?

Bruce Springsteen just yelled "I'm going to Disneyland!" at the end of his set during the half-time spectacular. I bet NBC/Universal wasn't happy with that!

True! :ROFLOL: But I bet most people out there have no idea of about the NBC/Universal connection. Same goes for the ABC/Disney connection.

For what its worth, the commercial sucks. Same uninspired emotional attachment crap they tried when IOA opened and no one knew what the commercials were for. At least they free ticket thing spelled out that it was Universal Orlando.

well, universal is giving out a few 7 day ticket per household who applies.. up to 100,000 per commercial :lookaroun so that may be up to 300,000 free 7 day tickets. Not to mention part 2 of the deal with will give out 28 vacation packages which are good up to 4 people each... and they are getting those names out of the 100,000 - 300,000 people who applied for the 7 day tickets...

but really, its not completely unprecedented... but it is out of the box from what universal has done in the past.
