Impact of Universal Orlando's Super Bowl Offer on WDW?

Funny, I watched the game today, saw the Universal commercial, I did not realize they were giving anything away until I read this thread. I think I remember hearing the voice over saying "Visit the Universal website for a special offer"

I had no idea they were giving away 100,000 7day passes as I think the millions who were also watching the game did. Did they say they were giving away the tickets in the commercial? Or was it just to visit the website to find out what the offer was?

If it was latter it was a very ineffective ad. Who in the middle of a Superbowl party or at a bar watching the game is going to run to a computer and sign up.

I may have just missed the point of the commercial, but as I said I thought it was just a commercial for US/IOA. When the second one came on I blew it off and went to the bathroom so as not to miss any of the game..Or that FANTASTIC 3D COMMERCIAL at the end of the first half!!!!!

It specifically said at the end to visit UniversalHeroes.com for a free ticket and that 100,000 were being given away.

I guess I just missed it....oh well I guess I will find out if I am one of the 100,000 lucky ones to get a ticket. I did not submit my name until Midnight central time

Increase Disney's attendance. You come down for 7 days, realize 7 days of Universal is triple dejavu, and head to "those Disney parks in the area".

Either that or nothing. This won't change minds who are thinking of going to Disney to make them switch to Universal.

Cool promotion none the less.

As much as I love Universal, I agree with this

I think this goes a long way to show one thing: Attendance in Orlando's theme parks but be projected to take a huge hit with Disney and Universal offering free entrance. I am impressed that both parks are really trying their best to get people to visit during these extremely difficult economic times.

This once in a lifetime opportunity is just the beginning of an exciting time at Universal Orlando. Over the next year or so, we will push the boundaries of the imagination with brand-new attractions and award-winning events and continue to redefine the theme park entertainment experience.

Here is a quick look at some of the exciting events to come:
*The opening of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, the most individually customizable roller coaster ever created
*An extraordinary 2009 Mardi Gras line-up, featuring NeYo, Kelly Clarkson, Montgomery Gentry and Nelly
*The expansion of Universal CityWalk to include Burger King’s Whopper Bar, Panda Express, and Moe’s Southwest Grill
*The 19th and 20th anniversaries of Halloween Horror Nights, the country’s premier Halloween event
*The anticipated opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
So, as we kick-off a new chapter at Universal Orlando, we invite you to watch this sneak peek of what you’ll see this Super Bowl Sunday.

Universal is stepping up their game, and I LOVE IT!:sohappy:

I think it's a decent marketing approach just like the Disney birthday deal.

The 100,000 tickets don't mean squat, but the buzz caused by it, the number of people going to the website and then at least having Universal on their mind when thinking vacation is the main focus.

As was said before, IF those people do actually go, they probably won't be going solo, have to get lodging, have to eat. Most if not all of that money will be recouped. Now...for the cost of the superbowl ad time....That is some big change!

I personally didn't hear the free ticket part, I guess I missed it too. They should be plastering that across the screen if it is that big a deal.

They are adding 3 fast food outlets but some here say they are not marketing to high school teens who visit in groups. Yeah right

So anticipating an attraction opening is now an attraction unto itself? That is creative marketing at it's best (or worst depending on your point of view).

Edit-- Hmmm, so which will open first, TWWoHP or the NEW Space Mountain?????????????

How is a whopper bar any more affordable than eating at the McDonald's at Downtown Disney or any of the quick service restaurants in the parks?

At least they have attractions to anticipate.

TWWoHP will open after Space Mountain by a few months at best. Here's the thing TWWoHP > refurbed Space Mountain. A refurb of an old attraction cannot be compared to a whole new land based off of an immensely popular franchise.

Wow...Panda Express and Moe's!!! How original...We have both of those in the same shopping center here in my podunk 'burg, about halfway between home and work. As a matter of fact, they are both on our regular Friday lunch rotation at work...and we ate at Spicy Cat...er Panda Express last Friday. Yawn...

Not that Disney is doing anything worthwhile with PI right now.....
