Imagination Update

I'm very intrigued by this significant Figment presence in the pin event. I get he's in JIYI heavily (as an afterthought), but his popularity must be fairly high to be featured.

I mean, there is a Figment World pin... (that includes the wand no less). Exciting stuff. Dreamfinder or not, at least it appears Figment is remaining a part of whatever it is they do.

Is it really so hard to get Epcot to fire on all cylinders?

The refurb of SSE and Canada will be putting it nearly there. The only "bad" spots left will be Imagination and Wonders.

Don't forget Energy...and the lack of a "ride" attraction in the back half of WS.

Does anyone remember what was upstairs? Even as a child, my family never went up there. We only went on the ride.
You missed out. The Imageworks was a place where you could easily spend 3-4 hours and get lost in all the hands on attractions, either participating or just watching (Dreamfinders School of Drama was a great example)

-those who remember climbing the stairs / escalator / getting the lift know just how sad the current groundfloor shop-______-display area really is (not to mention it`s on the original ride path.... GRRRRR! :fork: )

That is my biggest problem with epcot at the moment. It needs a good E or D ticket in world showcase, bad.

As for imagination, what ever they do I hope they take the time to do it right. I dont want to see any quick fixes. Take your time, plan it out, and give us a ride we can love for a lot of years to come. I would like to see dreamfinder back as well.

I think they've learned their lessons from "their quick fixes to Imagination" .

I agree with the Imagination update - take all the time you need to do it right Disney.

I also agree that WS needs a new attraction.....and badly. I would love to see a Japan ride, but simply because I love the asian culture and there is already a film in China.

Not that I am saying I disagree, but wouldn't a E or D ticket in world showcase go against the original intentions of World Showcase? World Showcase is not about the major rides, but learning about the various countries and their cultures. That is why there are rules that people who work in the countries must be from that country.

Man I want to work at Epcots' Canada

Goof-Man - a D or E ticket attraction does not mean a roller coaster or thrill ride. Look at the AA. It's an E ticket and educational. A ride through of Japanese, German or Italian history and culture could certainly be a fun ride if done right.

There is no rule about what level of entertainment (E,D or C) one can get learning about a WS country, is there?
Speaking of which:
How would you rate the two rides they have in WS?

Mine,
El Rio de Tiempo, no.... wait, the Donald ride, no..., La Fiesta de Gran....? What was that called? = a "C-B".
Maelstrom = a "D"

Will HISTA be included in this major refurb? Or will that remain the same?

Nope, the plans I've heard involve Fig and DF getting the whole pavilion. So the Institute is basically getting wiped off the face of WDW. Can't say completely off the earth yet considering HISTA's at all the other resorts except for Hong Kong.

Since this is the most Kiddie attraction at the most Non-Kiddie park, they need to be extra careful when or if they are making changes.

Yes, the original ride was fantastic, but not all guest thought it was worth a whirl through since it didn't exactly match the guest intrest of the median guest. The park skews much older and much more mature. With 2 new Kiddie rides (Nemo/Mexico) and a larger Kiddie show (Crush), there may not be anywhere near enough interest in pulling in another Kiddie attraction.

On the other hand, if they add another 2-3 Kiddie attractions, Epcot may rival MK for attendance. How many families skip Epcot all together right now? My friend at work hasn't gone in the last 4 trips to central FL. But his family has gone to Universal, IOA, and Sea World.

They walk a very fine line with this referb. There are as many pluses as minuses. Do they kill the Adult skew for the park by making it more family attractive?

On to what seems to be the model for Disney attraction lately, they need to boost the re-rideability factor. This is something that I first noticed at DL for the Indy ride. There are several starts -- middles -- and finishes. Each ride gives you a little something more. Same thing goes for TZTOT, MILF (still funny), TTWC, and now TSMM. It's the same reason Star Tours can have walk-ons. Why not throw together another film? When they first opened ST at DL, they made it sound like there were several destinations you could be on a trip to. The ride turned out to be always the same. After dozens of trips -- I haven't been in the the last 9 WDW vacations.

So they need to find something that will make people want to ride more than once in their trip and have the numbers for the attraction that backup the reason for re-ferb. If it's going to be a simple change of scenes like the last few updates -- why do it in the first place.

I remember the Imagination Pavilion being an hour of childhood bliss. Not just a ride through, but an actual event that took 2 hrs of your Epcot day to experience. This can be the most time consuming Pavilion again. But it can't be throw away like it is now or it just wouldn't be worth the effort. This space needs to be something that screams "CAN'T MISS".

The institute -- Wiping out the pre-Eisner era. See Robin Williams Flubber props but no Fred McMurry version.

The last time I was up in Imageworks. Everything was still there. The Rainbow Tunnel. The Painting Palettes, the big Pin Tables, the Stepping Tones, Electric Philharmonic, School of Drama, the big paintbrushes where you shot different colors at Dreamfinder and Figment. I don't remember the exact names of things. I'm not sure if anything works anymore, they mainly used it for storage boxes and lighting fixtures.

Everything seems to be going Epcot's way! Hopefully the problem-child Studios will get seen to next. :)
the problem with MGM is that he just turned 18, so he still doesn't listen to his parents and he's just trying to rebel against Mommy Magic Kingdom and Daddy Epcot (with the big ball and wand) by not doing anything. It's kinda like when my mom would ask me to mow the lawn and I'd be like "whatever". Epcot was like "Now, MGM, I want you to build a new E-Ticket and I want it now" and Junior was all "I hate you, dad! You won't even see a new parade this year, jerk!"

Soon, MGM will find a girlfriend (Toy Story Mania) and they'll make Pixar Studios together, and all will be good and happy. Then they'll get married and go for the hyphenated Disney-Pixar Studios name, and they'll have a big wedding with all the press, and all will be better and happier.

Then we'll have to deal with wild-child Animal Kingdom when adolescence starts there...

I couldn't agree more! My frist trip to Epcot was in '97 . I remember the Imagination Pavillion as a GREAT experience! I wanted to ride again, but as it was our (my partner and me) first trip there, there were alot of things to try and see. I do remember coming off of the ride and saying that it was a little "dark" (scary) for some smaller children (but no more so than Snow White's Scary Adventures). But it had that "re-ride-ability"! I missed so much because there was so much happening during that ride. Hopefully they can add back the "fullness" of the ride. Let's ask Martin Smith how many times he's had to ride it to get what is the "ultimate" version of the ride.
