Imagination Update

Most Guests don't realize that the attraction is there, and Disney certainly doesn't hype it as much as any of the other attractions in Epcot...because Imagination doesn't deserve the attention right now!

Is it really so hard to get Epcot to fire on all cylinders?

The refurb of SSE and Canada will be putting it nearly there. The only "bad" spots left will be Imagination and Wonders.

Call it a hunch, but it might not just be from the fact that JIYI sucked so much that light couldn't escape it and that the current version is still feeling that, there's also the fact that the only sign for the ride is a cheap little banner that doesn't really stand out. Maybe with the redo they'll give it more dynamic and eye catching signage on the outside in addition to an actually good attraction inside.

Yep...:snore:
There was a concept...still is. There WAS a budget....likely will be again.

Honestly, it's way down on my priorities. Not a big Epcot guy...nor much of an Imagination fan. I'd honestly rather see that kind of money put to use elsewhere.

Ahh man, I was hoping you would want it to be upgraded. Its a great ride they just need to update it with some new effects. The vehicles are great and everything, they just need to redo the concept. Bring in some new ideas. Do they plan on re-doing it anytime soon? Or is this going to be a waiting game?

Thanks, by the way.

But Lee, this is one of the least visited attractions in Walt Disney World (the Swiss Family Treehouse has higher numbers than the Imagination ride). The pavilion needs the money!
Good lord, is that true? If so, it's both really funny and really, really sad at the same time.

I actually had a conversation with a Guest about the state of this ride today. We both lamented "messing" with Imagination.

I just wish I could find very high quality audio from the original ride. Not necessarily source, but more like a binaural ride on the old attraction. I know that the technology existed in 97 to pull this off, so did anyone do it? Does anyone have great video, taken posssibly with a DV camera instead of VHS? High 8 digital was popular in 97.

I find many web videos, even on youtube. The issue is the quality just isn't there.

Anyway, I just hope they bring back large Figment plush with his 3 ft or biger version. Never got one, wanted one when I was a kid. I'd buy one now, but they don't sell them. Isn't that a joke. I can tell you that I'd be a pushover when I have kids. If one of them keeps pestering me for something like a giant favorite character I cannot deny it, because I got screwed by waiting myself.

If this is true, I'm really excited to see what's going to happen...but also pretty reserved, as I've seen what the last two refurbs have given us. But the ones who apparently know what's going on seem to have good thoughts about it, so...that makes me feel better. Let's hope it happens!

www.mousebits.com Journey into Imagination - Martins Ultimate Tribute. The full story of the attraction, concepts, construction, and the full original ride with multi camera video and virtually full source audio. Mainly sourced from SVHS and Hi8, 38 minutes long :D

Or www.geoffreynease.com for the torrent illiterate

I also saw about 8 Imagineers walking near France today but that doesn't mean an attraction is coming. :)
That's true! There is however a difference between near and in however. Also can anyone enlighten me on this statue base everyone keeps talking about?

With the ride finally getting a major rehab, would the storyline start off again with Dreamfinder creating Figment or will Figment already be created when you get on the ride?

There's a lot of talk about the ride portion, but I for one liked the playground a lot. I think putting a lot of cool interactive stuff in the upper portion of the pyramid should be a high priority.

That is an excellent question. Whether they'll have us jump right in the middle of things with Figment and Dreamfinder's other misadventures or whether they'll retell the secret origins of the little purple dragon...

You're now dead to me Lee. :fork:

As to the person who said a certain statue might be coming back. Someone mentioned on here the other day that where the base of the statue had been covered with a metal plate for years it was now only covered with some sort of plastic cap which makes it look like someones been looking at it.

That and Figment's the mascot of the park. And we've already seen what's happened when they tried taking him out. Bringing him and Dreamfinder back to glory again should be a big priority.
Hail Fig and DF...

The fact that Figment as the mascot of the park is becoming much more touted. In the last six months they've started using variants of this image a lot, with Nemo, a test track car, mission space vehicle, and figment all around SSE:

But now, they've started adding Figment to attraction specific merchandise, as well. Figment can be seen on Mission Space items and Test Track items, and he is the big star of Disney's Pin Celebration 2007 (http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/event?id=20121). Add to the fact that there have been several Dreamfinder pins and even a horrendous Mickey as Dreamfinder plush, and you have several clues (or marketing opportunities, for the more cynical) that JII is a big deal to park executives. Figment hasn't seen this kind of exposure since he came back in 2002!

In my mind, it would only make sense for the park to match the merchandising with an attraction that will draw more people. I can't see them bringing Figment back to this degree, only to keep ignoring his ride.

Looking at that pin event, that's just screaming Dreamfinder coming back. I mean if the whole series has the entire Fab Four plus Stitch and Chip and Dale dressing as him, that's a good sign that the Green Flash is coming and an old friend is returning from the Land of Lost Dreams....

As someone who collects Figment items (and sells them too), it has been quite interesting to see how much of an appearance Figment has been making lately in merchandise.

As far as the statue base goes, I just hope they can finally get the Figment topiary to grow. For some reason they keep having to start over. I sure do miss it being on-stage.

All of these rumors floating around are very exciting. I'm so glad to see some life coming back into the pavillion.

The thing that scares me the most is on page 18 of Showcase Merchandise:
Figment holding "the Wand"!

I too would love to know what storyline will be presented. Will they bring back the Dream Finder's mobile too???? So curious what is in the works!
Does anyone remember what was upstairs? Even as a child, my family never went up there. We only went on the ride.

A new 3D movie?!?!?!?
