Imagination! Being Replaced w. Dr. Doof?

Epcot - the new 1/2 day park. You can see more in AK than you can in FW and WS combined. Unfortunately, I think this is just what the bean counters want, full day admission $ for 1/2 day expenses.

I'm in this boat:

1. Love P&F and think an attraction based on them would be reasonable for the parks. Furthermore, do agree that they fit into the theme of Imagination well.

2. But would prefer Imagination be redone to bring back Dreamfinder and keep Figment. And just be better in general.

3. Am intrigued by the idea of a Dreamfinder/Figment show going into the theater. That said, to bring the former points together, I think a P&F show incorperated

4. Alternatively, I'd be down with the upstairs at Imagination being rethemed to a P&F or Doofenshmertz theme.

5. I'm not opposed to using existing IP/toons in Epcot if it's well done, though I'd prefer original content.

6. It would be tough for Imagination to get worse, so I'd be okay with P&F if that's what it takes.

7. Please leave Figment in some capacity.

If they could tie figment and the Dreamfinder into the new attraction than yeah I'd think it'd be really cool, It'd be something new but yet it'd give something for everyone. But I defiantly like knowing phineas and ferb will replace it instead of another disaster of imagination, cause lets be honest Disney will never get something like the original back but Imagine imageworks with phineas and ferbs inventions. I think that'd be really cool but I don't know, like everyone else I don't want figment gone.

Figment is too important to remove. He's basiclly the mascot.

apparently we should all "get over it" and accept duffy as our lord and master.
Not going to happen. If they lose Figment, they will never hear the end of it.
My kids adore figment, and they have only ridden the "new" imagination. :::shudder:::
There are PLENTY of empty buildings they can put lasseter's new dreamchild in.
if they touch figment (and don't just make it better figment, that might just be the last time I go to wdw.)

In my perfect world I would want Disney to restore Imagination to similar to what it was originally and put back good interactive areas within the pavilion. I think P&F is a great idea, so many ways to branch off many mini attractions in the scope of P&F, I believe p&f would fit well into the WoL pavillion.

I'm sorry who is this? I have no idea and have never heard of the character. And I bet I'm not the only one.

Why not use the Muppets for this? Seems like a perfect match. At least multiple age groups know who they are and to me are more of a draw to get me into the pavillion.

Really I would like a rollback to the old Journey ride. The original. There could be updates and improvements but the the same magical feel should be there. And Figment. Plenty of Figment.

I disagree on Test Track 2.0, the old one was pretty bland and emotionless. The new version at least has some damn personality and actually fits the "Future" part of Future World with it's emphasis on designing vehicles for tomorrow.

Otherwise all good points.

I agree with Test Track 2.0 being an absolute dud. I find this one bland and emotionless. Two important things are gone from the ride:

1.Kids don't understand what is going on any more.
2.Adults don't care what is going on anymore.

People have shown Disney that is what they want. 1982 Epcot was brilliant. The attractions exuded quality and story from every pore. It was also regarded by the general public as the most boring place on earth.

I do agree that Disney is afraid, but with good reason.

I would say they made a huge miscalculation not to add attractions that appealed to the whole family, that includes teens and young kids. It's the same problem with having a theme park with only coasters. Every park needs diversity. UNI would be doing much better than is even now, if it had more family-centric attractions. And the irony is, when they tried to "fix" this problem they sacrificed everything that made EPCOT great to do it. The fix was a huge dud, imo.

And Disney dropped the ball with Imagination - It was one of the most popular attractions in all of WDW resort, was THE most popular ride in EPCOT. They changed it over and made it cheap insted of correcting the problem.

The problem wasn't that EPCOT was rebuked by the public, the problem was that EPCOT was never fleshed out to be a complete park the way it should have been and it easily could have going by the original plans that included Matterhorn and an expanded SPACE pavilion.

And they still don't know what to do with it today.

now I know your all "emotional" about figment and dream finder... but look around the park... they are irrelevant
Clearly based on the reaction here, he's not as irrelevant as you think. My 20+ year old brothers still remember the original ride and while they don't care too much for Disney as a whole anymore, they still love that ride and Figment. You are 15 I see...And therefore never experienced the original ride. You have no idea what you are talking about.

I enjoy Phineas and Ferb and while I can envision how they could host a decent imagination attraction, still gotta say no. Epcot was meant for more than that and deserves better. This would, yet again, be taking the easiest, laziest route to make the pavilion relevant again.

I disagree on TT 1.0 being emotionless and having no personality. It definitely had a playful side to it, the whole idea of sending actual people through what test dummies go through, "did you remember to turn off those robots?", and leading you into thinking they're going to crash you into a barrier.

I feel TT2.0 is all flash and no substance - which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but definitely less personality.

I'd like to mention that not everyone is P & F fans. My 15 & 16 yro boys have always despised that show. I've tried to watch a few times because of the hype but couldn't get into it. I think theming an attraction to a current television series sensation isn't the wisest of moves. The most popular of tv shows, the biggest of the big be it in programming for the younger set or prime time, they ALL have a shelf life. That shelf life is generally in the neighborhood of 10 years give or take. 10 years is relatively young for the life of an attraction. By assigning a popular show already a few years into its run the weight of an attraction it would doom the thing to a pretty short life span in relavency from the get go. That simply isn't a smart thing to do.

I realize folks who didn't experience the original Imagination aren't likely to have a real connection with Figment & Dreamfinder which I don't fault those people for. Disney did that when they robbed the original (that had long lines snaking thru switchbacks outside the pavillion during the then-true off-season) of its soul. Dreamfinder & Figment can be timeless if utilized and incorporated in the right way. To say Dreamfinder and Figment are irrelevant is like saying finding your dreams and embracing the figments of your imagination have gone by the wayside. If that's the case for some people, then God Bless 'em. That's heartbreaking in and of itself.

Even if Imagination doesn't get Dreamfinder & Figment back I hope & pray they don't get the latest television sensation as the masters of ceremony in any pavilion or attraction. Here's a novel idea! Create original, timeless characters and stories to deliver the material! Wow! Wouldn't THAT be a novel idea! Who-da thunk it?!?!

I'd like them to keep Figment but add a new modern spin onto imagination - a dream finder for the new century - something thats modern and relevant to kids of today - looking at imagination for creativity, music, art - inspiring kids to do something new with thier life/be educational whilst being fun!

Tough task, and whils P&F are cool now, I think we're a little late in the franchise to start creating attractions such as rides - surely a 3D film (do we really need 3D, I hate them!) film would fit, or something to fill some space in Innoventions with a Phineas and Ferb spin... I just dont think Imagination is the place for them...

... Meanwhile I hear a Meet the Robinsons replacement for Universe of Energy and a Chicken Little replacement for It's A Small World are in the works..... :)

The "Mind" movie that was referenced earlier is scheduled for release in June of 2015. It will be Pete Docter's (UP, Monsters Inc) new movie.

I can't see them being serious about changing the pavilion based on a movie that's still 2+ years away. I doubt the script is even done yet. Pixar certainly learned their lesson with Newt (not to mention the drastic in-production changes to Ratatouille and Brave) to not count their chickens before they're hatched.

P&F are a religion in my house, but I question its staying power. Even though there's a feature film supposedly in the works, sadly I'm afraid it may have maxed out its popularity and is on the way down.
