Iger Says Avatar Most Likely 2015, Hints at Marvel, More Pirates and Cars

I think most of us do not have a problem with the first cars movie, it is the way that it is a franchise now. Along with that, cars land should stay at DL because cloning attractions cheapens them and are cop-outs.

I am excited about the opportunity to visit Cars Land and immerse myself in all things associated with Radiator Springs. With that said, I agree that I really would prefer it stay in CA.

If Disney was truly considering a duplicate of Cars Land in Orlando, I'd much rather see the budget used, for example, to expand on the Pixar Place theme and add three attractions to that area (Monsters, Inc., Incredibles, etc.) vs. bringing in a new land.

Agreed, it would be nice to see them expand onto Pixar Place or rather to have a real pixar place.

I find it hilarious that Bob Iger believes that, of all things, Pirates of the Caribbean and Cars need more presence in the theme parks. :ROFLOL:

Kinda makes sense. A lot of their newer stuff has been more targeted towards girls, so Pirates and Cars could be an extended offering to their young male demographic.

Why? We may not like it and there may be plenty of both already at the parks but those ARE undeniably Disney's biggest assets at the moment, and it's not as if potential franchises are lining up Disney's door.

I can see where he's going with it though. Girls get their kingdoms and princesses, but the boys demographic would be drawn to cars. If Carsland came to DHS, I'd be stoked. That place looks incredibly detailed and hella-fun.

As much as I support the idea of Cars in WDW, I HATE the idea of Carsland in WDW. I'd really prefer one Cars ride being added to DHS, along with perhaps (wishful thinking) the Monsters Inc. coaster and a Wall-E themed ride - completing Pixar Place :)

Yes, some sort of Cars mini-land at DHS but a Carsland clone seems a waste of money.

Monsters of course is perfect for Pixar Place. Absolutely perfect fit. Wall-E though is a perfect fit for Tomorrowland IMO.

I can see that too. Honestly, I just really want a full Pixar Place in DHS, and I think Wall-E would fit so well in that theme. (I'd support an Incredibles ride as well, but I think a Wall-E/Eva themed ride based off their "dancing" scene would be incredible.) It could fit in Tomorrowland, but I think it's an easier sell in DHS.

And, as an add-on, DHS needs more help than MK does, so I'd rather add another family-friendly attraction to that park first.

There is no shortage of ideas for additions that Disney could make, especially in light of Potter's success at Universal.

In my opinion, a logical move to make in response to the growing competition from across town would be a major expansion of Pixar Place. Though no one Pixar movie is anywhere near as popular as the Potter series, the combined library is as strong. After adjustments for inflation, I believe the films from the Pixar studios have generated more than Potter at the box office. Add the revenue from merchandising, and these films truly are, as a previous poster mentioned, some of the most valuable entertainment-related assets available.

With this in mind, Disney could easily combine these products, expand upon an underutilized, existing land and create a formidable package. And, it could possibly be done for less than an Avatar addition.

Most of the ideas for changes and additions to this land and the surrounding areas have been mentioned before. But, just thought I would throw out my preferences...

-Convert "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" movie set playground to "Bug's Life" playground.
-Enclose Studios Catering Co. and turn it into the Pizza Planet complete with the now famous delivery truck.
-Remove BLT
-Replace Cast Member Costume Center with Monsters Coaster and move the Laugh Floor into the same building/pavilion.
-Add an Up attraction: either a dark ride along the lines of Peter Pan or something as simple as a well-themed version of the old skyway (or, potentially, a combination of these).
-Add an Incredibles ride. What I have long been picturing for an attraction now lacks much innovative appeal following the introduction of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Ride. However, my idea was for an indoor/outdoor family-friendly coaster. The queue and indoor section would replace the BLT Pre-Show/queue. The outdoor track would run the length of the NY street. Cars would sway and "skate" along on a Frozone-created ice track atop the building facades. Throw in Edna Mode, Jack-Jack and the entire family, and there is potential for many complementing story lines.
-Add a Cars version of Autotopia where the Operation Support building and Catastrophe Canyon are now located. If possible, incorporate part of the canyon. Extend the desert theme by building out the rock wall facades throughout the attraction.

Then, relaunch the land (and DHS) and market, market, market this package of attractions as all new.

Such a decision would allow for a transition of the current Pizza Planet to something with a Muppets theme. Plus, open up the current Tomorrowland Speedway and Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor locations for new attractions. TDO may not be as keen on this latter portion, but I suspect many guests would welcome the changes.

Just some amateur thoughts.

People are missing the real jewel in that report.

Iger says they are working on bringing the Marvel characters to attractions to the parks.

Spider-Man at the Studios before you know it...

Jimmy Thick-Avatar what?

According to the Marvel arrangement with UNI, WDW cannot have any Marvel characters that UNI up the road has in use.....

With that in mind, Spiderman is absolutely OFF the table.

Exactly.

You will see Marvel characters make their way into the parks alright. Merchandise(which has already been in the resort and very inappropriately placed at times) as well as photo ops.

Any big investments would of already of had to of broken some kind of ground now to eat off of the current movie mania hits.

Because of that Marvel deal of that type holds true where they cannot use any characters that are already represented at Universal...

That also definitely leaves out The Avengers' characters, X Men as well as The Fantastic Four. Those are Marvel's biggest hits both off and on screens large and small.

Besides, characters do not automatically make for great attractions anyway. Characters and a story help relate to the public, but a great attraction is a great attraction. All in the execution. Spider-Man and The Hulk are not popular rides at Islands of Adventure just because of their characters. People who have no idea on the source material come out loving the one of a kind sensory overload of a dark ride and thrill seekers love the Incredible Hulk coaster.

Sorry, I don't necessarily want to say this entire thread is negative (actually this one is one of the more civil discussions), but more of a general attitude throughout the whole community about all of Disney but especially centered around Avatar. Disney is nowhere near perfect but I get frustrated with: "TDO sucks, Avatar is stupid, this will never work, I'm underwhelmed by the new train station ... it doesn't match right with Dumbo, OMG can you believe BATB has a flat ceiling, etc." and all the name-calling. There is a difference between insightful commentary and debate and just automatically assuming that WDW only creates crap nowadays.
.

Actually I think the new train station (pics of it) look very nice actually.... As for Avatarland, If done properly and in ways to make everyone go "WOW! How did they do that?" I think Avatarland (or if it is slightly altered into John carter or something out of the world) could be a great addition to AK.

As for TDO, while they do things that make me go "Huh?" sometimes... they DO get a GIANT GOLD STAR for giving us "Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room" back and Yes I am serious! Thank You TDO for that!

Its not like Disney would make a better Spiderman attraction than UNI anyway.

You mean Bay Lake Tower, the $140 million time share hotel they built?

I think Wall-E could be used with the Land.

I'm surprised with all the calls to bring even more Pixar into TL...I'd personally like to see less and less. The current set-up has moved so far away from Walt's vision that you can hardly call it "Tommorowland".

It needs a true update, with a valid vision of what's to come. At the current moment I feel like I'm walking through a multi acre gift shop. Not a "bustling spaceport"...

While I love Pixar and all of the movies they've made to date. I'd like them to focus on the other parks (DHS the most) and keep the hands off of MK (except for the occasional Meet and Greet).
