I found a real eye opening article about WDI

Trust me Yensid. Brontosaurus IS NOT a type of dinosaur.

He's right [sort of], Brontosaurus was a very complete skeleton found by O. C. Marsh, the name means "Thunder Lizard". However, in reality, it was an Apatosaurus skeleton with the head of a Camarasaurus that he had found.

However, in the essay "Bully for Brontosaurus", Steven Jay Gould says the issue is really just about words: Brontosaurus and Apatosaurus are simply different names for the same dinosaur.

In other words, you're pretty smart if you know a Brontosaurus is really called an Apatosaurus, but you're even smarter if you realize it really doesn't make all that much of a difference.

Yeah, I just found out this morning while looking around a Universe of Energy website that the Brontosaurus and Apatosaurus are the same Dinosaur. I didn't even know there was an Apatosaurus! You learn something new every day. I prefer brontosaurus myself, considering that's the name I grew up with, but whatever! I'd assume Brontosaurus was more well known to the average persn, but maybe I'm wrong. I don't know too much about Dinosaurs, though I always found them Interesting.

Nah, being smart has nothing to do with it. I only knew it because I was reading some about dinosaurs in Wikipedia one time. Did it matter in this thread? Nope, not at all. But how did I just know that's where ghostbuster was heading when I saw his reply to yensid? He's just trying to make everyone THINK he's smart. More like a smart@ss if you ask me. ;)

well its really called an Apatosaurus. The word brontosaurus isnt used anymore and you'll never hear a scientist say it. Its kind of like still refering to Russia as the Soviet Union.

Wow, has this thread drifted......For the record I only refer to Russia as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, but I'm an 80's child.

It's all nomenclature. Scientists change, reclassify, rename, etc. all the time (TRUST ME! :hammer:). It's all in the name of more accurate specification and appropriate relationship by name. While in technical aspects, it does make a difference, it really doesn't here.

I mean, GOSH, it would be like people getting upset about people calling WDW's second park EPCOT Center! Who would care about that! :lookaroun

I have no problem with guests calling Epcot - Epcot Center. What I really hate though is when CM's (read: bus drivers) call it Epcot Center.

The Magic Kingdom IS NOT Disneyworld...

That's the only nomenclature issue that people have that bugs me.

Wow. Maybe I shouldn't make posts right before my incredibly early bedtime (as mentioned on another thread I actually get up for work at 4) when I'm tired. My actual quote was "brontosaurus type creature" and I wouldn't have predicted when I logged on the next night that it would have led to one of the strangest thread drifts I've ever seen on any public forum for any topic.

Anyhoo, I have the strange urge to comment on the actual article. I have to assume that the writer of this article is to some degree full of doo-doo (hopefully the next post won't read "what's doo-doo?" and lead to a discussion of scientific terms for doo-doo, actually I really enjoy typing doo-doo). However, from my own work experience his basic premise (over spending on DLP led to cost cutting on ensuing parks) is sound. At my work we just finished building a piece of equipment that took to long and was over budget. Some people have lost jobs and we are currently belt tightening for future projects. What's harder to do when something like this happens is assign blame. The writer tries to dump it in the lap of the imagineers, but in my experience there is always plenty of blame to go around. Also, if DAK was built on the cheap (so to speak) they did a fantastic job with the resources given and deserve credit for that.

There are alot of things at WDW that dont make a lick of sense. Like on M:S are we supposed to be in a training simulator or on an actual mission to Mars.
 Crap!

My detective work has led me to believe that Corrus is a retired Imagineer and while I have a massive amount of respect for him I think it is absurd to say Tony Baxter will be let go and if it is true then someone at disney is insane! Tony Baxter is the modern day Claude coats AND marc davis..this guy is responsible for 3 of my favorite Disney attractions all time (Indy, Star Tours, Splash Mountain) and numerous other favorites (the original journey into imagination, big thunder, the redo of fantasyland) how could they let such a creative visionary go? and what about Lasseter looking over several cancelled projects from baxter? and what about the rumors Star Tours 2 and a possible resurection of Discovery Bay??? I just can't imagine a Walt Disney company without Tony Baxter :( .

And yea I think Mission: space is a sorry excuse of an e-ticket. I actually laughed when Eisner was like "This attraction goes beyond e-ticket..its disney's first true F-ticket!" sure it is mr. eisner..sure it is.
I don't think you didn't read what I wrote, I said, IMO "Tony will be leaving the building as well"
So again, my words are being twisted... :(
I didn't mention anything about THEY letting him go....... You know, before they'll even try to make his life miserable, he'll already be gone, all by himself...No matter what they say or do...
I've spend time enough with Tony, (We lived very near to him in the Bubank Hills) I know how he is and what he thinks... And he's not a god, just a man, sometimes a little eccentric maybe, but just an ordinary guy, once you get to know him...

So it's a very stupid remark to say, that I said that THEY would let him go...

You can't sack Tony Baxter... You won't get the chance...
Tony isn't the guy who lets himself gettting fired... before that, he will be long gone...

And what I notice is that everyone is talking as WDI is all about WDW...
WDI is not about WDW, they have a lot wider perspective than Florida only... :D

Thats true. However I think WDI should be focusing on America. Foreign countries have gotten more than enough disney magic to last for a long time (Japan especially) its time to stop outsourcing the fun and magic to other countries and start focusing on the flagship and the crown jewel again.

The world extends beyond America's borders....and the opportunities in other countries are greater than they are here.

But did you know... it doesn't really matter much to WDI what you think... Japan is the excellent example and place to all your creativity, no hassle with budgets, nothing... I still don't know where the O.L.C. is getting these loads of money from... :D :D :D but it works... and I fully agree with Speck!
