Hurricane Irma

3 islands are opening tomorrow, to residents and business owners. Kudos to the crews who have been working nonstop since this morning. Hopefully the rest of the Keys will open shortly, and of course power, water, and cell service restored sooner rather than later.

Monroe County will open re-entry into the Keys for residents and business owners in Key Largo, Tavernier and Islamorada at 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Entry requires a yellow re-entry sticker or proof of residency or business ownership in those three cities. A roadblock will be put around Mile Marker 74, just before Sea Oates Beach where part of the road has washed out. An FDOT road crew will repair the road tomorrow.

Returning residents should consider that there are limited services. Most areas are still without power and water. Cell service is spotty. And most gas stations are still closed.

Mariners Hospital in Tavernier will open at 7 a.m. tomorrow.
Crews are continuing to work to clear U.S. 1 as quickly as possible. FDOT has inspected all the bridges along U.S. 1.

They cleared all the bridges to Mile Marker 16 as safe. They are waiting for reports on the safety of the remaining bridges.
The County will continue to evaluate the situation. The goal is to get all residents back into the Keys as quickly as possible.

That is awesome!
I'm completely over the "guy in a hurricane" reporters. I kept thinking during this storm, "No wonder people decide to ride things out in their homes... this idiot is on TV riding out a hurricane in a wind breaker!"
At times, the story ends up being about them and not the actual storm. It becomes a ratings game.

There are just four flights in the entire world currently en-route to MCO. Expect lots of cancellations today, although we should get more flights in the air as time passes. A few Virgin Atlantic flights are due to depart the UK soon, they're already boarding, and BA are expected to have a flight out later today.

They usually do triangle flights to SFB and MIA. I thought they might be flying to MCO exceptionally, but they simply cancelled even though all three airports (MCO, SFB, and MIA) are allowing limited operations today. I guess they weren't as high up the priority list as they thought they were, but it's a disgrace to passengers to tell them to go to the airport in the middle of the night for a 7:00 departure and then cancel after all.

Does anyone know if offsite hotels have power? LBV, I-drive, Hotel Plaza Blvd, etc. I know someone posted that Flamingo Crossings does not.

Also--all those in Orlando, can you drop a quick line if possible about how Uber is doing? I arrive Thursday around 11pm at MCO. Wondering if I should plan to use a booked car service or if Uber's up and running. TIA!

Uber is currently operating at Orlando International Airport. Only 3 UberX vehicles on the road at the moment, although it's early morning - and well, it's not like there are MANY flights from MCO at the moment.

There are quite a number UberSELECT vehicles available, you're spoilt for choice..

Anybody hear from @The Mom yet?

Before Irma rolled through, she said she was staying in the Riverside area of Jacksonville. Depending on how close to the St. Johns River she was, Riverside, especially along Riverside Avenue was flooded out. She's also probably dealing with a power outage. My parents aren't too far away from that area and they had no power as of last night.

If I were her, checking the WDWMagic thread would be on the low priority list, if only to preserve power on a mobile phone.

@cmb5002 Latest Keys update. Unfortunately, I think @MySmallWorldof4's husband was correct. I can't see people returning this week.

Supplies running critically low. Military arriving tomorrow to assist.

Power may be out for a month in the lower Keys. More than 200 downed power poles.

Fatalities have been mentioned but a number has not yet been given.. going door to door.

Cell service still out.

Many sunken vessels.

Still inspecting bridges.

Hoping to repair washed away roadways by the end of the week.

Water will be turned on for a brief period of 2 hours tomorrow, then off again. But they are under a boil water order- without power. Still working to identify where the broken pipes are located.

I'm sorry but anybody that did not evacuate the Keys is an idiot. I hope the number of fatalities is as low as possible but taking the risk is insane. They were providing free busses to evacuate people so there is no excuse for anybody to have stayed. Sad.

A Delta flight on its way to Orlando is making a very interesting approach... It's travelling a lot quicker than the Silver Airlines flight, but Silver still predicted to get in earlier...

A JetBlue flight has also departed MCO! Going to N/A... Which sounds like a very interesting destination ;)
