My brother-in-law just received word that his home on Marco Island has been destroyed. Other major damage on the island. He is now in Michigan but has contacts in Florida.

Cripes, there's a whole armada of the things.
If there's relatively little damage to Orlando and/or it is repaired quickly, I wonder how fast those contractors can be released from their contract with Disney and take jobs in Naples.
In my experience with hurricanes in the Mid Atlantic region, the repair equipment is usually staged away from the area expected to be hardest hit, but within easy driving distance. The staging area is also located in an area with lots of hotel rooms for putting up the workers who come from out of state to help. You don't want the equipment destroyed but you want it, and the people who will be using it, as conveniently located as possible. I'd assume these trucks will go where needed as soon as possible. They likely aren't all intended to stay where they are.

Yeah, I assume for some of them its just the character dinner performers (like at Poly or Contemporary) but I assume they must have brought the Country Bears and Hook/Smee to their hotels beforehand, unless each hotel just keeps a stash of costumes in the basement just in case.
I'm a little surprised at the lack of face characters too, though I haven't seen anything from Floridian yet, and I'm not sure off the top of my head any other hotel that has them meeting.

Wouldn't the CMs need to be trained character entertainers to begin with? I can see them putting characters out based on who's available, but I don't imagine they're just throwing random people into them for the day.

Hi - stuck here at the Floridian. We have Goofy and Pluto (who let the 1st ever Dog Parade earlier today) and Pooh and Tigger are also out and about.

Disney has been wonderful the past 24 hours, taking care of us. Breakfast this morning at 1900 Park Fare was $15 for all-you-can-eat buffet. They have grab 'n go lunch boxes to take back to your room. The entertainment has been great and they're keeping us informed as needed.

Short recap so far:

We've been at the Boardwalk. We planned on being here for vacation (from Sarasota) and came, as planned, to escape Irma. It's been nothing short of incredible. Some highlights:

- Part of the convention center has been converted into a buffet room / bar. Food is decent, prices are reasonable. Bartenders from AbracadaBar are making drinks. They are showing football games on a projector
- Part of the convention center is a family activity area. Characters (Goofy, Pluto, Chip & Dale) are hanging out with us, movies are being played. They have clowns putting on shows. My kids think it's just a rainy day at Disney World.
- The lobby is hosting dance parties (with Characters) and trivia
- The CMs have been awesome. Disney Cruise Line has been the gold standard for us, and this is at or above the service level. Everyone has been great.

It's 5:05 Eastern, the wind is picking up and it's raining a bit.

More to come.

Keep Moving Forward
The Virginia governor called a state of emergency a few days ago so the teams could get ready to head south as soon as they can. Many of the people who are planning to head out just got back from Texas.

I posted this in my TR, but we had a lovely hot lunch at Pepper Market at around 1:30, and picked up some of these:

The stories from the resorts are nice to hear, but I can't help but notice the huge gap between deluxe resorts on the one hand, and moderates and values on the other. Given that many people in the moderates and AoA likely paid more than people are now paying for deluxes I can't help but feel that the gap should be smaller. And yes, I realize this means nothing compared to someone who's lost their house. The gap just stood out to me.
Edit: this is, of course, solely based on the reports I've seen.

That's absolutely great, and at a reasonable price, too. Seems like WDW P&R took to heart the lessons of Hurricane Matthew...
You can keep people pretty content if you feed them well, especially at a fair price. Adding some entertainment and football makes it even better. My family cut the trip short and departed yesterday on one of the last flights out. We had heard very negative things about guest experiences last year during Matthew. That was a deciding factor as much as the weather itself.
