Hurricane Irma

Have been following this thread all week from London and now glued to the news too. Unprecedented scenes these past few days. Can't imagine how everyone affected by this is feeling. We land in Orlando 6 weeks today and all I keep thinking is how amazing everyone has been with their advice and concern towards others, sharing preparation suggestions etc etc. Given all that has happened in the UK this year I know that things like this, however awful, can also bring communities together. Thinking of everyone affected. Stay safe :(

Looters? Load of rock salt from a 12 gauge would be appropriate..... Wouldn't want to really injure anybody but it would be justice for them to need those shoes to stand up in for the next couple of weeks.

Local PB news is reporting an arrest for looting a sporting goods store - let's hope they've gotten caught.

I evacuated Orlando on Friday and am staying with cousins in Chattanooga TN currently. So my life is fairly safe. Hopefully the house survives unscathed. A former Nashville home of mine was wrecked by a flood in 2010 (with me in it that time). So such destruction is still somewhat fresh on my mind.

Evacuation via i75 was a nightmare, we actually got into a minor car crash along the way. Tons of drivers were being insanely reckless and we had literally dozens of close calls. A car tried to pass us and sideswiped the front left, minor damage and it was still drivable.

If anyone is still trying to escape North, be very cautious. I imagine things have gotten far worse now. Panicking crazy people who suck at driving can be just as dangerous as Irma.

The way they're entertaining the guests stuck at the hotels is really great, as are the seemingly huge discounts they're putting on meals. Does anyone have any insight on how they've set this up or how long they've been setting it up? Presumably the cast members are staying at the hotels, but I've also noticed for whatever reason that Donald, Goofy, Chip, and Dale seem to be everywhere, whereas Mickey is nowhere and Minnie and Pluto are only in a few spots (Hook, Stitch, and the Country Bears are where it makes sense for them to be). Did they ask for volunteers from character entertainers and sort it out that way?

Seeing the CMs and characters on twitter is seriously the best thing I have ever seen. From Donald playing guitar hero to Chip and Dale playing speedline, Minnie and Pluto at a reception, Donald at a concierge, conga lines and basically each resort trying to outdo each other with dance parties, it must the most entertaining thing to be at one of the resorts right now. Kudos to every CM at WDW right now for being there for the guests, whether it be food, entertainment or guest services.

I'd assume it's just the costumes they have on hand at each resort and the CMs heights they have stationed there. I have seen that Mickey has appeared at Kadani village though and I believe contemporary too. I've also seen Bolt, Baloo and Louie, Woody, Br'er Bear and Lilo and Stitch too.

Yeah, I assume for some of them its just the character dinner performers (like at Poly or Contemporary) but I assume they must have brought the Country Bears and Hook/Smee to their hotels beforehand, unless each hotel just keeps a stash of costumes in the basement just in case.
I'm a little surprised at the lack of face characters too, though I haven't seen anything from Floridian yet, and I'm not sure off the top of my head any other hotel that has them meeting.

Wouldn't the CMs need to be trained character entertainers to begin with? I can see them putting characters out based on who's available, but I don't imagine they're just throwing random people into them for the day.

I believe any character preforer can volunteer for the hurricane then be assigned a resort. Due to certain characters only showing up where thematically appropriate leads me to believe that each resort a small collection of character costumes for special events and maybe even specifically for hurricanes, some having characters which fit their theme. I've haven't seen anything from the Floridian yet either, although I can't imagine it would be any different than any other resort. The lack of face characters is probably due to the fact that they need a specific preformer for the character, whereas fur as long as they are the correct height it'll work.

Yes it would be entertainment department, not just a random CM. A lot of the entertainment dept is made up of the college program, which has a lot of volunteers for hurricane duty.

2.5 million FPL customers alone without power and it is just now hitting Naples that is insane. I can't imagine how long it will take to get power back up. I told my sister check when the estimate of power restoration will be before she rushes back to Boyton Beach
