I have no doubt about that. Waiting out the storm is now part of my trip. It's very interesting seeing how Jambo House is very busy with people everywhere at almost noon. Normally, I'm sure it would feel like a ghost town with everyone at the parks with the exception of arrivals and departures.
Thanks for your updates. Stay safe

Dude… step away from the news.
Still one of the funniest photos ever… I always think of this when the news is dramatically covering hurricanes now, they need the drama to keep people glued to the tv.

If they get a lot of rain at once and have some serious flooding, how high they are above sea level won't matter.

Flooding due to standing water is nothing like flooding due to bodies of water overflowing and swamping everything in multiple feet of water.

While disney has drainage constraints it isn’t like the whole place is below grade.

Localized flooding due to standing water and utilities are likely the biggest persistent concern. Tree damage etc should be a cleanup problem. But roads swamped, ground floors wet etc… those are the things most likely to be widespread

It's funny but it also isn't. They use the phrase "Turn around. Don't drown" for a reason. You can't see what you may be driving into. Anderson standing where he is compared to the cameraman is a good example.

Worse photos are of the TWC forecaster left looking like he is fighting the wind while two teens casually walk by. Or the local NBC reporter that the Today show cut to while showing her in a canoe and two people walking by in ankle deep water in front of her. Matt and Katie couldn't help mocking her.

Correct

Unless you were born in the 1920s and lived in the south your entire life there's no way you went through multiple cat 5s.

You can still experience and go through a storm that doesn’t make landfall… or one that was a 5 and downgraded before the center of the storm makes landfall.

You all are splitting hairs

We'll certainly have to see. I've been taken to task on this thread regarding my WDW planning logistics. First World problems to be sure and doesn't compare to prepping for a hurricane. OTOH, this is a WDW forum and l'm in the same situation as every other WDW guest trying to work around WDW's necessary park closures.

So, I have a park reservation for Epcot on Friday. I tried to switch it to HS but couldn't. Will parks open on time Friday? Will I have to go to Epcot first then hop to HS at 2pm? If parks open later, will they let anyone who had a park reservation to another park into the other three? Again, first world, but questions every WDW guest is asking in addition to arrival and departure questions.
When I was reading old threads about past storms, might have been for Charley, the first day the parks they got open were open for Resort Guests only, and didn’t require admission. They could do something like that if they could get something ready for Friday. But different management so they could also decide to keep things closed until normal operations can resume.

I read a post on the DIS from someone getting their stay extended at Riviera, talking to the manager that assisted them about the patio furniture. The guest told them they should have people bring it inside their room and the manager said something like that hadn’t even been mentioned in their meetings. But people have old letters from previous storms with instructions that included things like that.

So I am nervous that the teams running things are too green and that’s going to contribute to anxiety and raised tempers because of things falling through cracks that wouldn’t with more a more experienced crew. Not to mention the potential damage because preparations weren’t complete.

Sorry dropped my phone, and it posted early. Trying to finish a thought.

True. The Saffir-Simpson scale has to have a range somewhere. A 155mph Cat 4 is really the same as a 157mph Cat 5.

Reading the notes on the last update they seem to expect this thing to be pretty strong as it passes through central florida. No longer just expecting a rain dump. Those external walkways are looking unsafe soon.
