This isn't 2002. No one goes to a website out of any sort of habit. People open up social media as their go-to...where these messages spread like wildfire. Best way to get the notice out to people. If the website is updated 45 minutes later, its not the huge deal as I feel you're making it out to be.

I'm not sure that's true -- Twitter has a much smaller regular user base than people realize, even among younger people. It's barely used at all among older generations. I'm in my 30s and most people I know would likely check a website for news before they'd look at Facebook or Instagram (not that they don't use Instagram regularly; just not really as a news source).

I have teenaged nieces and nephews and none of them use or care about Twitter (or Facebook); they mainly use TikTok and Snapchat along with Instagram occasionally.

Same update went out on Twitter, IG, and Facebook around the same time...so social media was all coordinated. To be honest, getting it out on social media quickly is the best way....and will hit the most people at once.
So, wouldn't you say that it would have been just as easy for WDW to make the same announcement on their web page and the MDE app as they were hitting all those third-party apps?

I shouldn't have to subscribe to Twitter, IG, or Facebook accounts when I'm using the website and app that Disney wants me to use to do and learn everything there is about Disney and my vacation.

Also, Disney guests aren't all Gen Z hardwired to five social apps at all times.

Wrong. Mr. Penguin -Webpage police! Most guests already there know what the current situation is. Anybody not already there and thinking of going over next few days is flat out stupid. The majority of guests will check the park hours tab on the app. And that is updated. But if it makes you happy complaining about this please continue because it certainly gives me a chuckle. Your posts are something else, suggesting 1) anyone there are all "adults" (provably false) and Darwinian selection will sort this out, 2) that the "majority of the guests" will have the presence of mind to check the latest hours on the app, and 3) at the end the generous benevolence of The Walt Disney Company will make this all right.

Wind predictions have changed. These are the chances of sustained winds (for more than a minute, not just gusts [which could be worse])...

Sustained Wind StrengthTampaOrlando
75+ MPH (Hurricane Force)40-60%30-40%
60-75 MPH60-90%60-70%
40-60 MPH (Tropical Force)90-100%90-100%

Orlando still *could* get Hurricane Force Winds at a 30-40% chance of that happening.
For comparison, weather.gov records show Charley had 65 mph sustained winds in Orlando, gusts up to 85 (104 at MCO).

55 here … Guilty.
I constantly forget I have IG and Twitter, even though they’re both on my front page.

As of right now with the current track the eye will be passing directly over WDW Thur Mid day (Edit that’s MK.) If the track moves further south it will mean much more rain, however, tracks are speeding up so that will limit rainfall. The current rain graphic is based on the 2pm forecast. This map is the 5pm one This current track has a Wed afternoon landfall and a Thur night Atlantic splashdown. Once you are South and west of the eye the rain will end quickly due to the front. This is really touch and go.

When the eye is over WDW, will they temporarily reopen it?

Correct, it’s not like this snuck up in them. Surely they could have cobbled something together in a more cohesive manner. I mean it sounds like even CM only started finding out about this minutes before the public.

I think it's more of a hope than an assumption -- they're not going to announce the parks are closing that far out when it's possible Friday comes and everything is fine. They're too afraid of losing out on revenue in that scenario. They can always regroup and announce a Friday closure tomorrow or Thursday if conditions warrant.
That assumes that by tomorrow and Thursday the Disney and Universal park grounds aren't submerged like Six Flags New Orleans (not saying they will, but were their flood guards and storm drainage systems built to handle double-digit rainfall?).
