Yeah, I complain. This is incompetence.

If a duster and shill like me is calling them out, you know it's gotta be awful.

People wondering what's happening don't start following Disney Parks on Twitter. They go to WDW's website where they see:

View attachment 669593

And that's the link to the page without the park closure info.

It's unacceptable. It's incompetent. It should have been the first place on the internet they updated. Because its where most quests would look.

So, keep telling me to give it up. Or you can give up telling me to give it up.
It's worse than incompetence. At some point, this late in the game, it's at best negligence.

Yesterday Tampa announced they were closing the airport on Wednesday, and early this morning MCO did the same. And Disney *finally* gets word out around 5pm Eastern the day before?

Wind predictions haven't changed. These are the chances of sustained winds (for more than a minute, not just gusts [which could be worse])...

Sustained Wind StrengthTampaOrlando
75+ MPH (Hurricane Force)40-60%30-40%
60-75 MPH60-90%60-70%
40-60 MPH (Tropical Force)90-100%90-100%

Orlando still *could* get Hurricane Force Winds at a 30-40% chance of that happening.

Wrong. Mr. Penguin -Webpage police! Most guests already there know what the current situation is. Anybody not already there and thinking of going over next few days is flat out stupid. The majority of guests will check the park hours tab on the app. And that is updated. But if it makes you happy complaining about this please continue because it certainly gives me a chuckle.

Orlando is also now in the life-threatening flooding zone.

We're talking two different things, which is an opportunity for two different incompentencies. ;)

1. Deciding if they're closing and maybe waiting too long to make that decision.

2. Deciding that they are indeed closing and not getting the word out effectively.

You know what's funny?
Same update went out on Twitter, IG, and Facebook around the same time...so social media was all coordinated. To be honest, getting it out on social media quickly is the best way....and will hit the most people at once.

This is kind of what I meant -- seems like the social media response was coordinated but they didn't align with the rest of the messaging department. That's unusual for a corporation of Disney's size, although certainly not unprecedented.

Bold for Disney and Universal to assume they'll resume as normal by Friday or the weekend considering the 12 to 18-inch rainfall predictions, which Orlando has never experienced.

I think it's more of a hope than an assumption -- they're not going to announce the parks are closing that far out when it's possible Friday comes and everything is fine. They're too afraid of losing out on revenue in that scenario. They can always regroup and announce a Friday closure tomorrow or Thursday if conditions warrant.

No, you're wrong. Completely wrong.

Guests shouldn't have to hunt around several links deep looking for the hours of parks a day or two away to learn if the parks are closing due to a major hurricane.

I just opened my MDE. There is nothing on the front page of the app. There is no push notification.

And again, if one were to go to their website, their top link about what's happening leads to a page that doesn't mention closures.

You have a really really low bar of competency if you think this is anywhere near being competent.

I think the Wednesday-Thursday closure is fine. They'll know pretty quick if they need to extend it.

Now, how long that will take to get updated on the website, I'm not going to guess.

Watching local hurricane legend Tom Terry, IYKYK. He’s saying latest forecast is Cat 4 at landfall, hurricane winds in north Polk, foot of rain in the Four Corners area. Two solid days of wild weather ahead, a real Florida E-ticket.

This isn't 2002. No one goes to a website out of any sort of habit. People open up social media as their go-to...where these messages spread like wildfire. Best way to get the notice out to people. If the website is updated 45 minutes later, its not the huge deal as I feel you're making it out to be.

Can I ask why? With it turning to Orlando would it not be smart to try to get a few hours north before the morning? Genuinely asking as I have a friend stuck at the contemporary. They have a car and could be in gratifia by tonight. They don’t know which is smarter
If you're already at WDW, there is no safer place than your resort. The area is now under a Hurricane warning. Heavy traffic combined with a major storm is not a good combo. Better to stay put.

There should be a push notification for this. I’ve had push notifications from the app for really dumb crap because I was in one park or another. I know the capability is there.
