How can you people stand the parks in the summer?

We go only in the summer. I don't feel comfortable taking my kids out of school for a week, plus they seem to get colds every two to three weeks throughout the school year (I know from experience how awful it is to have an earache and have to fly).

Like others have said, hitting the parks early, going back to the hotel in the afternoon, then returning in the evening works out pretty well. My kids spent the afternoons either playing in the pool or game room, and some quiet time in the hotel room was essential, too. :)

I live in Chicago and it gets very humid and hot here too. There have been years where we returned from a July/August WDW vacation and had the weather in Chicago be hotter and humider (word?). Anyway, as someone else said, you're in the Happiest Place on Earth, buck up, keep hydrated, wear deoderant and enjoy.

Being British, when I first visited Florida and WDW, I did find the heat hard to cope with. Its actually became a lot easier on subsequent visits. Like others have said, so long as you have a plan of where you're going in the parks and are aware of making sure you drink plenty and get in the AC at regular intervals, then its not so bad. For instance, since our first visit, my family have always avoided going round World Showcase at Epcot during the middle of the day. We take on most of the walking in the evening and spend the height of the sun watching shows or doing indoor attractions.

I've never visited Florida during anytime other than July or August (during our main summer holidays), so I don't really know how the parks differ in any other season. I've just come to live with it.

I live in FLorida and Disney IS in Florida...I ignore the heat. You really can't get used to it and it does make you really tired but when I'm in the parks I'm so phsyched to be there in the middle of a dream that nothing gets to me.

:)

Wish I could have that mindset about everyday life LOL

Well, here in the middle of South Carolina, we get all of the heat, fewer of the breezes.
As has been pointed out, many people go to WDW in the summer because of school schedules. Before my boys started school, we went in October and April and loved it, though the parks closed earlier.

Now, we usually go in June or July and yes it's hot and crowded. But after hitting the parks since 1979, you do learn to hit the parks early, leave right after lunch to get back to the hotel, and return very late in the afternoon. Of course, you can't 'burn the candle at both ends' for more than about 3 days in a row before you have to take a day off.

But again, for those of us in the South, we're used to the heat and if you have to be hot, there's no better place to be hot!

Oh, it is about 96 degrees here in Northeastern part of the US.....and I am sitting in my air-conditioned house typing in my air-conditioned computer room and imagining how hot it is outside.....to weed, to mow the lawn, to sweep the decks or should I just stay inside the air-condition and clean or go to the air-conditioned mall or movies?

Or should I think about the fact that next week I'll be in hot and humid Orlando with attractions and pools and magic and air-conditioning with my family with the chores and heat of the Northeast 1000 miles away?

Why go do Disney in the summer? Because it is summer! And I like to spend my vacation dollars vacationing in the summer when there is more time and opportunity....no hassles with school, or sports, or dance class!

But the best part is that each of us gets to choose what works best for us....thank God we all like different months and different times of year....it keeps Disney going all year around and the crowds in the summer are even managble with a little planning....it's all good!

We just got back..enjoyed it all. We enjoy the trip by going early in the morning, going back to the resort by noon to swim, and go back, refreshed, in the early evening. The people who are "hammered" have probably gotten there late, when crowds were the biggest, and stayed all day. Also, we make use of fast passes, so we don't need to wait in line very long. And after all, a hot, sticky, crowded week at Disney is better than none at all!

I hate the cold. Summers are hot here on Long Island. I can tolerate the heat. My wife has been trying to get me to go to WDW in August. Prices are cheaper, but I'm not sure if it's just too hot to enjoy. It's one thing if it's just us, but we have kids and you know how cranky kids can get when it's hot and sticky.

I'm also from Long Island and the humidity is awful here! But this summer it's been pretty cool! Anyway, We used to go the end of August right before the kids went back to school! Then we discovered if you take them out for a week on off season we could do so much more and get on everything and enjoy it 100% better. One week of school lost but work was made up and we never, never had a problem doing it.

Born and raised in Florida, and have lived here my entire life so the heat is normal to me. I do prefer the months of Oct-Dec, or late Jan-.Mar in comparison the the stickier more crowded summertime. It is funny to see how many families are so irritable around 2pm during summer as opposed to other times.

It's called summer for a reason- but all things being equal, I rather spend a hot humid day at Disney over a hot humid day at home. I actually rather go when it is hot than on the chilly side. So I guess there might be quite a few of us who "Like it Hot."

Hello!

I can tell you that I hate going to Disney during the summer. For starters, if you sleep in late and don't get into the parks early, then your chances of enjoying anything in the parks are pretty slim because of the afternoon thunderstorms (and some of them get pretty nasty).

If you're an early riser, then hit the parks right after breakfast (or skip breakfast). Because from about 8am to about 2pm or so, you have that window to enjoy some of the parks.

From 2pm to about 7pm or so.. keep an eye to the sky... you just never know.

But yes.. it does get HOT and HUMID down here. I live in Naples and while we get a "seabreeze" down here, it's not doing us any good because the Gulf of Mexico is always at 90 degrees. If I want a breeze that warm, I'll go sit in front of a heater.

There are those who the heat and there are those, like me, who can't stand it. :)

 Noticed you are in Naples.. I am up the raod in Fort Myers

It all depends on what you are used to. I'm a native floridian and my house is not air conditioned. The heat feels good, Im cold when it gets below 70.

"You people"? haha... Well to answer your question, sometimes some people don't have the luxury to go during any other time due to school/work so I guess that is a reason why.

I couldnt agree more!!! Many people go to Disney during the sumer months due to school/work schedules. I am quite lucky in that I dont have a set vacation schedule at work, nor do I have children to worry about school schedules with. I do understand that if you have those constraints it could make picking an ideal time more difficult. However if the choice is going in the summer or not at all what would you choose?? I know what my choice is.......I am going, Ill get ahotel with a great pool but I Am going!!!!! Belle

I love WDW in the summer.........mo hotta, mo betta!!! I'll tell you what, I invite anyone to NY in the middle of Feb. when theres 4 foot of snow and the temp. is -20 below 0 and you tell me whats worse.......Flordia summers or NY winters. And if your really feeling up for it go up north even further and visit Montymon in Canada, their winters are far worse then ours. :xmas:

We also take the kids out of school. We've gone in May the last few years. I like going then. And your right, this summer has been cool! Makes me nervous what the winter will be like. We have plans to move south in the next 4-5 years.

My family usually goes in mid September, sometimes it's hot, sometimes it's very hot! We found the toughest spot was world showcase, sure you have the countries to duck into, but not much to shelter you between them. We've found that those cool neck wraps are a must on those days, you can also rewet a bandana or scarf at the water fountains and keep that on your neck.

I have been to WDW in all but 3 months of the year and I agree if I didnt have a choice of course you would take whatever you could get, but once you have been in Sept,Oct,Early December or Spring (just not "Spring Break or Easter) you get spoiled and never want to go back in July or August.
Less crowds and heat...what could be better?? Plus I cat think of a more beautiful time in WDW than during the Christmas season with all the extra decorations!:xmas:
