**Hong Kong Disneyland announced the expansion plan for the new "Lion King" theme park, which will be jointly invested by the Hong Kong government and Hong Kong Disney**

October 14, 2024 - Hong Kong Hong Kong Disneyland today grandly announced a new "Lion King" theme park expansion plan. This brand-new park will be located between Adventureland and Grizzly Gulch and connected to the existing "Celebration of the Lion King" theater, becoming Asia's first "Lion King"-themed immersive experience area. This project is a joint investment between Hong Kong Disneyland and the Hong Kong government, marking a new milestone for both parties to work together to promote local tourism.

**Park Highlights:**

1. **Journey through the Pride Lands*:

Visitors will ride on classic water rides, similar to the design of Disneyland Paris, through the magnificent landscapes of the savannah and Glory Rock, accompanying Simba on his journey of growth. This water facility will use the latest animation technology and sound and light effects to recreate classic scenes from the "Lion King" movie, allowing visitors to experience Simba's journey from a lion cub to becoming a king.

2. **Pride Rock Adventure Coaster** (*Pride Rock Adventure Coaster*):

Visitors will start at the highest point of Glory Rock and go on a high-speed roller coaster adventure. Along the way, they will experience the beautiful African landscape and magnificent skyline, and experience an exciting adventure.

3. **Animal Kingdom Village**(*Animal Kingdom Village*):

The park has an African-style village that provides unique dining and shopping experiences, allowing visitors to taste special delicacies at "Timon and Pumbaa's Game Kitchen" and purchase limited edition souvenirs at the "Glory Stone Boutique".

can anyone confirm if this is true?

Wait wait wait wait wait what

Where did this come from

Regardless I can’t prove one way or another but it is very on point for a current Disney park expansion, 2 ride- e ticket and a c/d ticket, a restaurant and a shop; shared resources with a different park

If it’s a fake they certainly know how to make an authentically disney fake

this was from a disney group on facebook. no other news has been reported though, even though the post states that the expansion had already been announced. they also stated that the expansion would cost around 6 billion HKD approx, begin construction in 2027 and open to the public in either late 2030 or early 2031.

if this is true, this certainly comes as a surprise as no other project has been announced asides from the "re-imagning" slated to come between the 20th anniversary and the marvel expansion.

I think it's fake. It's quite impossible to build a water ride featuring a drop from Pride Rock, and a roller coaster starting from Pride Rock without having 2 Pride Rocks.

yeah i noticed that discrepancy as well, but maybe the layout would be slightly different from paris? (as in the exclusion of a drop) to differentiate it from FEA perhaps?

Another thing to note is that let’s assume this leak is real. If they wanted to connect the land to FOTLK you would have to destroy the pavilion

There is simply no way you can keep both

This would make sense, considering thats where HKD originally planned to have their flume drop version of POTC

Also DLP's Lion King ride will probably be one they'll want to clone in many resorts

Well it certainly hasn't been announced and maybe it is the translation but it reads like AI.

I'm not connected to HKDL rumours bit it seems surprising if they announce something when they've announced the Marvel expansion and haven't even broke ground on that.

To be fair on the second front the marvel expansion is not going to remotely cost as much money as they have left over so they could package this as part of the old expansion

Possibly... but after COVID and the war in Ukraine a budget in 2016 won't get you the same as it would in 2026. . Do we know how much money is left in their budget? The internet tells me DHS TOT cost $140m and WDSP TOT cost €180million so I think with inflation both of those figures are likely to be 250m nowadays.

Somewhere in the realm of 5-700 million USD (5-6 billion HKD)

Classic AI-generated content. Notice how the talking points are numbered and the language doesn’t follow Disney’s style guide (e.g. “park” instead of “land,” “visitors” instead of “guests”).

Just finished a trip to HKDL (now at USJ) and on the ground not much has changed recently.

IMG_2141.jpeg

I saw some construction equipment in the empty western carpark but I can’t confirm if it was meaningful or just some stuff for Halloween/christmas. The rest of the current expansion plot is very hard to see, HK disguises its backstage areas well from outside the resort and the train faces the wrong direction. The eventual path that’s just north of iron man is currently unchanged

After some conversation with the cast members the 4th hotel seems to be off the table for a while due to the sheer size of explorers lodge. They seem to be indicating there is distant plans in place for both the area south of frozen and the big plot west of grizzly. Interestingly conversations I had with the ocean park cast seemed to back this up as the ocean park cast were discussing Disney getting 99% of the governments budget (though it’s hard to know how accurate oh the ground cast reports are from either resort) ocean park is severely run down these days while Disney seems to be flourishing (funnily enough both cast got super excited at my apparent interest in the parks)

As for the park experience itself it’s currently most unchanged since my last visit with the exception of additions. Food and merch are still strangely expensive (though HK punches far above its weight when it comes to food quality), Duffy is taking over more and more of the park space and continues to have the longest lines and the rest of the park continues to have shorter than average (but longer than my last visit) lines

Arendelle is fantastic as an addition and really balances the park. Fantasy springs is a better overall addition but purely rating the arendelle section HK is leaps and bounds ahead. We managed to fill 3 full days and didn’t feel like we were forcibly wasting time. However the hours are still rather short. This was my first time watching momentous and we possibly caught it in B mode but we found it relied a little too heavily on projections (though the castle does really suit the projections)

One final interesting thing to note is there is now 2 temporary shops set up on the esplanade for non park guests which seems to indicate some manner of movement towards a downtown Disney but that may be just overflow of stock

Sorry to bump this thread and apologies for not bringing any news or rumors. I just wanted to share that we visited HKDL on Halloween and we had such a great time. I absolutely love this park and very much enjoyed the new rides. We skipped Frozen Ever After in Epcot because of the wait times but loved it when we rode it in HK during Early Morning Entry. The above pic was taken right before that, there was almost nobody in the park yet. We did laugh out loud when we learned - on the ride itself - that Wandering Oaken's Sliding Sleighs only lasted about 30 seconds if you don't count the lift hill 😆 Also very much enjoyed the Iron Man Experience for its story telling and humor (looking at you coin press machine!). Everything was a walk on and people took dressing up very serious. Surprisingly, we noticed a guest who was not only wearing a mask that covered his entire head (so not just the face) but he carried a fake axe with him and had some blood spatters on his clothes. This would never be tolerated in the US parks or Paris for that matter.

Glad you had fun, I'm in DL now and it's so packed it's kinda not fun at all. They need to get rid of AP imo
On a Monday?! Wow that is bad luck then I guess? We visited both on Halloween and on the Saturday that followed Halloween. Longest wait we had was 30 minutes for Frozen Ever After in the early evening. Sorry to hear that bud, do you have another chance to go and visit HKDL?
