HKDL gets new castle, frozen land and marvel land.

Just finished a trip to HKDL (now at USJ) and on the ground not much has changed recently.

I saw some construction equipment in the empty western carpark but I can’t confirm if it was meaningful or just some stuff for Halloween/christmas. The rest of the current expansion plot is very hard to see, HK disguises its backstage areas well from outside the resort and the train faces the wrong direction. The eventual path that’s just north of iron man is currently unchanged

After some conversation with the cast members the 4th hotel seems to be off the table for a while due to the sheer size of explorers lodge. They seem to be indicating there is distant plans in place for both the area south of frozen and the big plot west of grizzly. Interestingly conversations I had with the ocean park cast seemed to back this up as the ocean park cast were discussing Disney getting 99% of the governments budget (though it’s hard to know how accurate oh the ground cast reports are from either resort) ocean park is severely run down these days while Disney seems to be flourishing (funnily enough both cast got super excited at my apparent interest in the parks)

As for the park experience itself it’s currently most unchanged since my last visit with the exception of additions. Food and merch are still strangely expensive (though HK punches far above its weight when it comes to food quality), Duffy is taking over more and more of the park space and continues to have the longest lines and the rest of the park continues to have shorter than average (but longer than my last visit) lines

Arendelle is fantastic as an addition and really balances the park. Fantasy springs is a better overall addition but purely rating the arendelle section HK is leaps and bounds ahead. We managed to fill 3 full days and didn’t feel like we were forcibly wasting time. However the hours are still rather short. This was my first time watching momentous and we possibly caught it in B mode but we found it relied a little too heavily on projections (though the castle does really suit the projections)

One final interesting thing to note is there is now 2 temporary shops set up on the esplanade for non park guests which seems to indicate some manner of movement towards a downtown Disney but that may be just overflow of stock

Sorry to bump this thread and apologies for not bringing any news or rumors. I just wanted to share that we visited HKDL on Halloween and we had such a great time. I absolutely love this park and very much enjoyed the new rides. We skipped Frozen Ever After in Epcot because of the wait times but loved it when we rode it in HK during Early Morning Entry. The above pic was taken right before that, there was almost nobody in the park yet. We did laugh out loud when we learned - on the ride itself - that Wandering Oaken's Sliding Sleighs only lasted about 30 seconds if you don't count the lift hill 😆 Also very much enjoyed the Iron Man Experience for its story telling and humor (looking at you coin press machine!). Everything was a walk on and people took dressing up very serious. Surprisingly, we noticed a guest who was not only wearing a mask that covered his entire head (so not just the face) but he carried a fake axe with him and had some blood spatters on his clothes. This would never be tolerated in the US parks or Paris for that matter.

Glad you had fun, I'm in DL now and it's so packed it's kinda not fun at all. They need to get rid of AP imo
On a Monday?! Wow that is bad luck then I guess? We visited both on Halloween and on the Saturday that followed Halloween. Longest wait we had was 30 minutes for Frozen Ever After in the early evening. Sorry to hear that bud, do you have another chance to go and visit HKDL?

We were there in early October...it was a fantastic park and exceeded our expectations all around. The overall resort is lovely too...hope it gets a chance to expand in the future.

It’s got at least one more e ticket coming in the next few years and with arendelle the park will likely show profit and expanded guest numbers when the numbers release so I think it’s a pretty safe bet

Shanghai is busier but its master planning is way worse, I wouldn’t be surprised if LegCo hops on an expansion sooner rather than later hoping to one up Shanghai and also because across the border in the GBA expansion is going on like nobodies business

Does anyone know when HK counts “local visitors” or annual pass holders is that purely residents of HK or is the entire GBA part of their local catchment

Like do they draw distinction between GBA and greater mainland China or is it basically

1) HK
2) China
3) other

For some reason I want to say both. They will break down HK or mainland counts, but then also roll them together to publish the “local vs foreign” numbers.

I think you can be Antarctica and still hold an annual pass

it’ll be interesting to see the next release of attendance numbers.

After they announced they were profitable in the quarter arendelle opened I wonder if they kept that profitability or if it was just a one time thing that came with the opening and the park still needs more

Anecdotally arendelle has really shored up HK’s weaknesses on the ride front but it still seems to not attract near as many people as Shanghai. I wonder what’s either holding HK back or propelling Shanghai forward

Frozen Ever After remains disappointing and lacking a good story. The version at HKDL is still better than the one at Epcot, but it’s not impactful enough to give the resort a long-lasting boost like Mystic Manor did.

Did mystic manor give the park a long term boost though, it has massive capacity but it never appears to be the parks busiest attraction, if anything from that expansion Toy Story seemed to do the most

It’s also hard that that expansion aligned with the construction of Shanghai which really crashed HK’s numbers. Is FEA and arendelle really not enough (I don’t know I’m genuinely asking I just like talking with people)

I do think that the combination of Mystic Point, Toy Story Land and Grizzly Peak did keep guests in the park for longer. Going by busiest attraction, doesn't Mystic Manor have a larger capacity than the Toy Story Rides, so the queues will be longer?

By capacity the park’s two highest attractions are grizzly and small world with mystic in 3rd if I remember correctly

Small world is whatever it was the parks original expansion but grizzly regularly has longer lines than mystic

It’s very likely that Toy Story’s lines are caused by their low capacity though
