feeling better about the timing of my trip the first weekend in October. If there had been a switch flipped and a major new scene added overnight last week as was speculated, I would have been really bummed to have been so close in time to have missed it.

Every day that it doesn't happen, the timing of my visit is less significant. :D Can't wait to see video when it is up and going, since I won't be back to the Magic Kingdom for a very long time.

I noticed the skull rock when I rode it Sept 25 (that's the only major difference I noticed when I rode it). I asked my friend about it and they said it was always there- I knew I wasn't crazy thinking I had just missed it!
If by always there you mean since the end of Sept, than yes its always been there

"Yet"? Ahhh... Another cryptic tease!
If POTC ever gets a "Big Refurb", lets hope that it gets that Nixon era sound system upgraded.

LOL, never forget, that what is ment to be heard and the way it is heard, is exactly that, your "Nixon" era sound is designed to be that way. Its completely digital and state of the art, its ment to sound that way, were you expecting Dolby Digital, DTS surround, in a cave over run with Pirates??? The Caliber of sound system in that attraction, makes some of the Largest Club's in Vegas look like its run by Ma Bell Operators with 1/4" audio jacks patching the calls through a switch board LOL, Now for the Hat Pirate update..............

Disneyland got a complete audio system replacement back in 06 while at WDW only the (Unfortunate) new dialouge got their systems replaced. thus you have this bizarre cacophony of 1973 and 2006 technology.

How scary are these mermaids going to be? I don't mind scary, but I can't see Disney going that route. Wouldn't it tarnish Ariel's reputation in the park and perhaps keep little girls from getting a mermaid makeover at pirate's league? That said, I hope they are animatronics, not projections...

Can they even be photographed? (Not like they are vampires that wouldn't appear in the picture - just if they are a projcetion would they be able to be captured in the photo?)
