Helium Balloon Fiasco

A family constructed a helium balloon and a kid climbed in side and the tethers broke loose.

See the circular thing? They thought he was in it,but he was not and another compartment may have come off.

Crazy stuff. Looks kinda bleak for him.

It's a weather balloon, his parents are storm chasers. That round thing is NOT where the kid was, there was a box attached to that that fell off.
There is a massive search on now. They have a photo of when it fell (a woman took some pictures and has downloaded them and noticed something under the balloon) AND they have a sheriff's deputy who says he saw something fall from the sky...it's about 35 miles away from the family's home .

At this point, I'd just love some closure. This has had me glued to my tv for hours now (which totally derailed my afternoon cleaning plans - Oops!).

Happened to turn to an affiliate station and tracked it since the event began. Really hope they find him.

They found him! :sohappy: He was hiding in a box in the attic and was never in the balloon.

Indeed. They are probably going to get one heck of a bill for the use of all those municipal services too.

Definitely. The brother that claimed he was in the balloon is in some serious trouble too. It appears to me that the entire family is nuts.

The way it reads, the government ones only!

It wasn't immediately clear how much the search operation cost. Capt. Troy Brown said the Black Hawk helicopter was in the air for nearly three hours, and the Kiowa helicopter was airborne for about one hour. The Black Hawk costs about $4,600 an hour to fly, and the Kiowa is $700 an hour, Brown said.
