Hall of Blame

Ok HOB I agree that WED was awesome and a lot of what they created was great. But not everything. Sometimes it feels that as an HOB member there is almost a blind allegiance to anything old, whether it’s conscious or subconscious I don’t know.

Let’s take Autopia for example. Not wanting to get rid of Autopia (which takes at least 15% of Disneyland’s current real estate) seems to be an HOB trait. If it’s not nostalgia that influences that opinion then what is it? I would guess it’s Because it’s old/ historical and it was an opening day attraction. I don’t think anyone can say with a straight face that the ride experience is worth the real estate it takes up. The traditionalist in me would like for them to find a way to keep it and make it relevant but I’m not sure what they could do to make it so. (Aside from having the cars fly). Anyway, back to the point. Any HOB member, tell me why keeping Autopia is a good idea that doesn’t have to do with nostalgia/ history.
Nothing should be sacred. Autopia itself isn’t all that special but was is special is that it is part of a complex that once housed six attractions. It’s hard to believe that any replacement would not be a single, mediocre capacity attraction with absolutely no relationship to its context, be that in terms of story, size, scale, massing, materials, so on and so forth.

I'd put good money down that if Burbank was going to implement a change to Autopia, it'd be another Star Wars or Pixar or Marvel property.
Doubt it. We just got the Honda update. It's not good, but it's not Pixar, Marvel, or Star Wars. Also not paid by Disney, though. Nonetheless, with Galaxy's Edge and Marvel land on the way, I believe Tomorrowland's upcoming refurbishment (whenever that is) won't have either property. As for Pixar, it's really uncertain was there's now Pixar Pier but we know they're not closing Cars Land yet they are closing Bug's Land so.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of the Haunted Mansion Holiday? The Haunted Mansion was a classic spookhouse so powerful and so chintzy, it could use automatic door knockers to create...charm. It had such a mastery of the charmed side, it could never turn theme park guests...from riding. It became so charming, the only thing it was afraid of was...losing its charm. Which, eventually, of course, it did. Unfortunately, upper management decided to implement a tacky neon cartoon holiday overlay. It's ironic. It could save others from death, but not itself.

We're talking in theory here. But I wouldn't put it beside them, Tomorrowland is currently a Star Wars billboard with sprinkles of Toy Story.

I would love to see attractions layered again like they were in TL 67. However, wouldn’t an enchanted Forest FL expansion (trying to save the trees here) with a couple dark rides, restaurant and some nice atmosphere be a better use of space than what exists now? I would imagine they would be able to do at least that much with the real estate. But you re right, WDI doesn’t seem to be capable or aren’t fond of layering attractions the way WED did. What we d probably end up with is a huge D ticket trying to be an E, a restaurant and a store. I’d still personally probably get more use out of it than Autopia though.

Anyway, the Space could also be used for a new TL attraction(s) too. Doesn’t have to be Fantasyland.

Nature's Wonderland, Storybookland, Autopia, and Western River Expeditions are excellent examples of using space to the best of its abilities. Grizzly River Run is the exact opposite of that.

What about the other 8 months a year?

Wait wait wait .... hold on HOB, my point still stands that a typical HOB trait is that old things are better than new. Whether that’s fueled by nostalgia or an allegiance to anything created by WED enterprises.

Agreed. I'll let the point stand.

What I'm fixing is the point about growing up with the parks. Many HOB members didn't do so. It's an easy fix.

They would just add a lame Frozen land. They're never going to make charming dark rides like the Fantasyland classics again.

That might be true but i would probably ride that Frozen ride more than Autopia. Autopia is just about charming enough to go to bat for If it was half the size and didn’t take the strength of a rhino to push on the gas pedal.

Im holding out hope as well. Between City of Heroes, Galaxies Edge and Pixar Pier, there is good reason to believe TL will not contain of those 3 properties and hopefully have some original stuff that blows us away. If anything I could see it still having a smaller Star Wars presence.

I did grow up with Disneyland, but only a few times from 1999 to 2004 and then didn't return until 2010 and have been going at least once a year ever since.

This implies high hopes for our current management, that of which I do not have.
