That being said, I have an interesting question to bring up...
Why is it okay for men to prance around without a shirt on and show their (useless) nips all over tv and in public, but when a woman flashes her LIFE GIVING on tv there is such a huge uproar?! seems a little hipocritical to me (now i KNOW she wasnt breast feeding during the halftime show, but the same goes for all of the protesting back and forth ABOUT breastfeeding in public...why is it seen as disgusting??)

It causes an uproar because in this country women's are seen as signs of her sexuality...the bigger the better...used to attract a mate.

Now personally I just couldn't care less about Janet & Justin. This was a publicity stunt that backfired bigtime and all the " I'm Sorry"s and "wardrobe malfunctions" or whatever other excuses they come up with isn't going to change that. Pay the fine and move on.

And NashvilleMouse you are correct...that outfit was not made to be worn over a bra...the little red lace inserts were there to give that illusion.

Erika...the act of ripping her shirt is definately an act of aggression by a male on a female...another lesson I would not like my children to learn. We have taught our daughters self defense against such actions, one I am happy to say is being echoed in our districts HS Health class at this time...the girls were asked if any had received training in self defense & my daughter was the only one...and an in class demonstration showed that she learned her lessons well.

All this attention is exactly what Janet was looking for whether or not it was suppose to expose her completely or not. She has an album coming out next month and what better way to sell records. What did Britany do when her last album was coming out and not to very good review... she kissed Madonna. It's all part of selling an album. Nothing more and nothing less.

No....actually one of her closest friends (a wrestler) got "volunteered" by the teacher...think Miss Congeneality and the talent part of the finals.

(though she didn't use full force)

i guess i just find it sad that its okay for some to wear band-aids to cover their most intimate parts and when others do it it's outrageous

It should be wrong for EVERYONE
or it should be okay for EVERYONE
what makes one person special over another?

oh well
Im glad the FCC is going to investigate this because our television "morals" are low enough... Imagine what they'll show on TV in 10 years... or 20!!

I am aware of your history and it breaks my heart everytime I think of it. Damn those that abuse or steal the innocence of a child and double damn those who tolerate it!

I agree with you, Erika! He ripped her clothing almost as a dance step in their very provocative song. My generation grew up learning how to dance from watching American Bandstand. Todays' kids are being saturated with MTV and other piggy music channels that are dictating the social norms of behavior for our kids. Parents don't have a chance against this influence!

Right on! Let's think about history for a moment. Do you think the things that we think are acceptable would have been acceptable 40-50 years ago? Such as:
-Today's bathing suits
-TV shows (CSI, NYPD Blue) ..graphic detail, etc.
-Reality shows on MTV (promiscuous $ex)
-Ambercrombie & Fitch adds
...the list goes on and on.

It looks like the 'trend' is moving towards a more liberal society. My grandparents were not all that happy about today's fashion or TV shows and 30 years from now I will probably be saying: "Back in MY time we could only expose
one breast, not the whole body!" This seems to be the trend. We don't have to like it, but it will be hard for us to stop it.

Personally, I am terrified of what my children will be growing up to. Some of the things these young ladies are wearing now a days and some of the messages on these t-shirts are distrubing.

Hmm...in that dance...it looked as if he was trying to "hook up" with her...she was walking away...he said "I'm gonna have you naked by the end of this song"...she continued to walk away...so he reached over and took it anyways.

Pay no attention to the huge deficit.
Pay no attention to the poor and jobless.

Shouldn't we be focusing on the problems in our country instead of a question of whether it is proper to show a breast on TV for not even two seconds?

THANK YOU!!!

Among other things....like a certain war that hasn't been justified YET (where brave troops keep losing their lives)....

You don't like what you see on tv or hear on the radio turn them off...no one puts a gun to your head and tells you what to watch...society doesn't make people...people make society...

If people didn't entertain half the publicity stunts these stars produce...you wouldn't have such an occurence as the whole janet/justin thing...they are attention hungry...so don't give them any attention....

Justin wasn't alone. Janet would stop and stick her butt out and together they would grind. Like I said before, I'm glad my kid was downstairs playing with her friends.

The other night on the Golden Globes, Nichole Kidman's bo ob almost popped out of her dress. That would have been a wardrobe malfunction:lol:

If this was an accident, then all everyone would be talking about is poor Janet. Because it was an intentional act this gets everyone arguing morality issues back and forth. I'm actually glad it happened - the FCC has been to relaxed lately. I'm sick and tired of hearing GD or a-hole being used on national tv AND local radio stations!! Maybe this incident will light a fire under the butts and get them moving.

NASHVILLE MOUSE - wait until you do have kids and try to buy them age appropriate clothing. A few years ago while trying to find my then 9 yr old daughter shorts, all we could find was booty shorts. Now don't get me wrong, I don't want them down to the knee - mid thigh is fine - but one inch below the top of the leg is unacceptable. I'm not a prude, I just don't want to put my child in harms way by dressing her as a teenager! totally off subject.

Whew - that was longwinded!!

See, that doesn't fly. People were watching a football contest. They did not think they were going to be exposed to something like that without any notice at all. People were watching a football game EXPECTING to see football. The 'rating' for a football game is not like that of NYPD Blue. People DO choose not to watch shows with nudity or profanity. They depend on the TV ratings to tell them how the program is outlined. (Mature, All audiences, etc.)

I agree with you, but I'll add this...I don't want my teenager dressing like that either.

My 11 year old son saw it, and he says everyone in 6th grade was talking about it yesterday. I took the opportunity to offer 3 bits of fatherly advice:

1. Real men don't tear off women's clothes like that. If they do, they'll get arrested and/or slapped. Women deserve more respect than that.

2. Most aren't all nasty with chinese throwing stars on them. If you're lucky, you shouldn't have to see a that old again until you're my age.

3. If you do something stupid that you think is cool at the time and get caught, just admit it and apologize. Don't make up lies and stories about it. You'll go from looking a bit foolish to looking like a complete idiot.

I want to be a 'cool dad' if I have daughters. But my wife and I both agree, the clothing has to be tasteful that we buy for our daughters. There are some outfits that we see (at the mall, sporting events) that NO teenager should ever wear but are wearing and are not sending a good message to guys. It doesn't help that these so called pop-idols (Brittany, Christie, etc) are wearing next to nothing.

If more people taught their kids, both male & female, to respect themselves & others we wouldn't be having this discussion.

This was THE SUPER BOWL. Just a game, yes. But a game watched by millions. The halftime show was improper.

A war that hasn't been justified, yet????
The intelligence (or lack there of) community of all countries believed there to be WMD in Iraq. Satan, I mean Saddam, kept fighting the UN on inspections, kicking them out, letting them in on his terms. What do you think he was hiding, his stash of Playboys. I think the mass graves they have found of Iraqi citizens has been justification to have fought the war. Makes you wonder what could have been avoided if someone took care of Hitler before he reached full power? I can hear it now...your'e comparing Hitler to Satan (Saddam)...YES I AM. And the World is better off without Saddam.

The economy is improving. Look at the markets compared to 3 years ago. We are emerging from a recession that the Clinton Administration ushered in. Are there still jobless, yes there are.

I hope that all able bodied individuals will find employment, but they can't be like Cousin Eddie in the Vacation Movies and be holding out for management.

On you way to the bomb shelter, could you toss me a box of thin mints. I might be needing them now.

Mine won't be either. On a side note you should see the girls that show up for cheerleading - the shorts are rolled up a million times - we have to get on them constantly.

Janet should have been signing NASTY GIRLS!

 When those mop-heads known as the Beatles invaded our country back in the 60s, many people were in an uproar. Those were the days of crewcuts and zips and how silly those kids looked as if they cut their hair with a bowl! What a decent, respectful bunch they were and they made immortal music to be enjoyed for generations to come!
Compare the Fab 4 with what we see on the rock and rap scene today and those four Brits looked like royalty. Who are the Beatles of this generation? What music will kids be bopping to 40 years from now? Inquiring minds what to know!

As it turned out, the Beatles ARE royalty in my book.:D I can still picture them shaking their mop-heads on the Ed Sullivan show singing this song: (not the best quality) Click the link.

I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND

(HEY, before anyone says, "who cares?"...cut the old man some slack and let his mind wander in his own little, narrow minded world.)
