shame a multi billion dollar companys cant open new rides every year...times must be tough.

Technically they are now. Pandora (2 attractions) - 2017, Toy Story Land (2 attractions) - 2018, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway (replacement attraction) - 2019, Star Wars Land (2 attractions) - 2019, Ratatouille (expansion attraction) - 2020, TRON & Guardians of the Galaxy - 2021

With a possible Poppins attraction and Coco overlay in there. And Indy possibly in the mix.

But they need more and they're playing catch up. But they're adding attractions. YMMV on liking said attractions.

That's the current approach inside Bob Chapek's office, yes.

Tom Fitzgerald said as much at the last D23 Expo and Chapek repeated it at the WDW D23 Expo. Epcot is where the real becomes fantastic and the fantastic becomes real.

That's a great mission statement that applies to every theme park ever.

The ghost of many largish animatronics will haunt you in your sleep for not parenthetically noting that Guardians of ye olde Galaxy is a replacement attraction.

The ghosts of Internet Hair Splitting will haunt you for not noting that GotG:IU is both a replacement and a new ride expansion because a new building is being built that will expand Epcot's footprint!!!

Forever to have nightmares of Universe of the Galaxy (or Guardians of Energy?)...

I would guess that despite the bigger footprint, I will spend less time on actual rides during the day. So, I will try and avoid the haunting by noting that the footprint will be expanded by another short ride that will have interesting spaces to stand in whilst waiting to get on the ride.

Things that should be in DHS:
  • This concert (show? Is there going to be a plot to this or is it just Quill and Gamora singing?)
  • The Guardians ride
I just can't wrap my head around how this IP landed in Epcot of all places.

They don't care about overall theme any more. We just need to decide how much we care. I'll probably never iterate to a final conclusion.

All I've learned from the blog is that it's running 5 times a day. Nothing about Gamora or Star Lord singing, so I feel like this might be one awkward dance party?
“Star-Lord and Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy will take guests on a musical journey through the cosmos in “Guardians of the Galaxy – Awesome Mix Live!” at the America Gardens Theatre at Epcot.”

I agree it’s not crystal clear but it does sound like it’s them singing live. We’ll find out soon enough!

Help wanteds indicated there will be a live studio band playing and singing. Star Lord and Gamora are the emcees. Their ads didn't say they had to sing.

The people are live -- they would be hard pressed to find a band that can cover everything on the Awesome Mix Vol 2 soundtrack...

Here's the thing I don't get. GotG2 has come and gone. The coaster is still a few years away. I like the idea of having some live music in the AG theater for the summer, but why GotG? Thematically it's a mess IMO and you're paying two face characters you don't really need as there's nothing to promote (yet). Just feels off. Did the tribute bands of the past actually cost more than this?

There's little Marvel you can use in WDW, so, they're going to use what they can.

That there is no concurrent movie doesn't stop all those princess attractions.

Yes it is a live band that will be playing. Some of the cast for this are people who will be familiar to you from other shows in the Studios and EPCOT in the last few years. I know this is supposed to be an amazing show vocally, but haven't heard if either Star Lord or Gamora will be singing. Marie

The Season Pass did several Tony Baxter interviews and in one of them he discussed Indiana Jones and how it's a property that could have viable story treatments in every park. In that explanation he explained that Epcot is where Real feels like Fantasy and the Magic Kingdom is where Fantasy becomes real. It's an important distinction that Disney has stepped away from for Epcot.

Now that park has an unclear direction. At this point, I'm just hopeful that the rides are good.
