I've got a lot of high hopes for this ride. One thing I'm curious to see is the variance in possible surge pricing on ILL.

Genie's rollout kinda overlapped Remy. And while Remy is a nice attraction. It's not a coaster. There's going to be a lot of demand for GoG. It'll give us a good indication of what to expect for Tron.

The nice thing is that EVERYONE in this thread gets to win the argument! Yes, there were more pieces to be added to the support! No, it didn’t make it look any better, and actually makes it substantially worse!

As UNC said, the support looked much better without the additions. Now the ship is completely overwhelmed. It looks tiny, and there’s no sense of sleekness or excitement to the entire assemblage.

I’m starting to wonder why they didn’t just use a simple round column with a landing platform on top. At least the rear fin would be visible. It’s still not done but unless they pull off a miracle this seems to be the chunkiest possible choice they could have made.

It was always going to be a chunky column once covered. Think it will work better from angles than others.
Agree. I think from the side it looks decent and the styling appears to give a good impression. My biggest issue keeps being when I see pictures head on. It is just so bulky and clunky, especially in comparison to the angles of the ship on top. The other problem with it looking bad head on is that that is wear one should be looking to take in the entire look of the pavilion. As you walk toward the pavilion that is what will be the look you see.

I'm not sure why Imagineers couldn't figured out to break the law of physics.

Some of you guys wanted to have it hang there in midair all day I guess. Maybe they should attached a series of Boba Fett's jetpacks.

He’s structural engineer. No breaking the laws of physics required as has been shown several times already with photos of existing work.
This.^^^

It looks like garbage and there is no reason for it too. I would be behind it 100% if they were recreating a landing platform from the comics or the movies, but I have yet to find a picture of a Star Blaster in a landed position in either.

Hopefully, they will at least retcon this platform into existence as @WDWFREAK53 suggested.

As for people complaining about angles as is so often here: (Tron)
We don't see things as still shots most of the time.
We're moving, walking, approaching and coming around things.
We don't just stand at designated angles, well... unless we're taking pics.
Yes, but I think that you should generally give a lot of thought to your potentially most-photographed angle, which is probably head-on in this case. I also personally think that the center will be lighted based on the concept art, so it may have some added pizzazz at night, but I wish they were giving equal consideration to daytime views in EPCOT. The entire Xandar pavilion seems like it might be another case where it’s much more visually lively in the evening.

Mike posted a few more pictures which shows the middle now meeting -

Looks great!
It's cool to see how the angles of the cladding, along with the graphics can reduce the visual mass of the support, even though they actually add to it dimensionally.
Automotive designers use tricks like this to reduce visual mass.
The Ford electric "Mustang" Mach-E uses tricks like this in the roofline and rocker panels.

Agreed. From the front, the column is kind of chunky, but the light grey strip down the middle helps diffuse that a bit. And the side view actually looks great. The curved design is very sleek.
