Man would I have loved a good weather pavilion instead of this. As a weather nut as well as a theme park lover I could've gone for a good dark ride/thrill ride like dinosaur where u learn about tornadoes and head out chasing one only to get too close and have to dart at the last second. Sigh what could've been...

well, this brings us to a little tangent, but: this is the problem with that argument. says who? people who like comics? "kids and adults" love it? so everyone? i'm going to walk into the street and not find one person that's like, "superheroes? eh...."?

personally, just my opinion, but i couldn't care less about any of them right now. i get there are people that will line up at midnight for thor 955 or whatever, but you could say that about most things. it seems fairly obvious that the genre is headed for a tipping point. the market is so saturated, and will continue to be. but that's not the reason why they shouldn't bring this kind of IP into epcot.

a lot of this stuff doesn't make for very sturdy fodder for permanent attractions to be built on, especially when thematically, they don't make a lick of sense. i loved he-man as a kid in the '80s. where was my masters of the universe overlay on horizons? it sounds like something i would have pitched to my parents when i was five and they would have smiled, and said, "well, that's not really what epcot is about, sweetie." i guess we need to start talking to iger and co. (and the people who defend these idiotic decisions on these boards) like they're five-year olds.

so guardians had a great box office two years ago. will people still care in 10 years? will people care in five years when they open this? do people care now?

and everyone who says, "it's not feasible to keep upgrading based on 'the future.'" really? so you're telling me that 10 years from now, GotG is going to be so red-hot that this attraction won't feel outdated?

if you're talking yourself into this being good, it's because WDW fans have essentially fallen into an abusive relationship with these parks. things are so bad that when even one little thing is added (bathroom, smells to PotC), we lose our minds and say, "they're restoring it to its proper glory!" they're not. they're doing as little as they can so the profits are bigger than ever.
So if not everyone likes something it is niche? Not everyone likes Star Wars but it isn't niche. Superheroes will not go out of style any time soon and that's the point. Yes, GOTG themselves might lose some popularity but a ride might not. I am not calling for a GOTG to be built, but if it is the ride could stay popular far past the popularity of the IP.

Look at MIB in Universal, that's a niche yet it still popular since the ride itself is well made. Spiderman and the hulk are hugely popular rides at Universal and will continue being so far past any dip in IP popularity due to the ride itself.

I look at Avatar the same way. The movie had virtually zero lasting cultural impact after its box office run, but the world-building possibilities of that universe are quite exciting.

Exactly, Avatar itself is far more niche than superheroes yet the land would be popular for a long time of made correctly.

One problem I have noticed among those of us concerned about thematic cohesiveness is that the Epcot we remember was not appearing on our social media. You couldn't rate it on trip advisor or comment on a message board or Facebook or Twitter. There was no such thing as "social media". Instant opinions were not possible. It was face to face, a written letter and for those fortunate enough to own a home computer, email that required a paid subscription.

To plan, you bought a guidebook or got one from the library. You asked friends and relatives who had been there what to see. Social media has changed WDW because social media has changed everything. When businesses ignore the long term fans and only attend to the once in a lifetime crowd, they lose a large advocacy group. When they fail to deliver an advertised benefit, they look bad. When what used to be free costs money because we guarantee you a seat and include food (and it is done on short notice) it looks like penny pinching. When you have to hire cadre of social media personnel to run interference for the negativity on social media, you should listen to what they tell you.
How times have changed

Yup. I'm managed to ignore all your other silliness, but now you've crossed the line.

And of course I said "please". I'm Canadian. We're polite that way.

I'm speechless. I could understand if I was using profanity but I wasn't.
