Great Movie Ride Cowboy Scene?

I don't think I have ever seen the cowboy scene before. I've ridden GMR tons of times and only remember the Gangster scene. Is the Cowboy scene better? I think on my next trip I'll ask a CM specifically for the cowboy scene just to see it at least once.

I like the Cowboy scene better myself...but it's rare to see it.

I think in the past 3 trips, I can only recall seeing it once. When the ride first opened, it was extremely common, but back then the wait for the ride was over an hour, easy.

To help your chances, I would go to GMR between 11-2 (it runs longer, but this should help guarantee it running)

I love the cowboy scene. (Fire! Fire! Fire!) Have they toned down the Alien segment over the years? I seem to remember the Alien in the ceiling being more in your face. (Or my minds playing tricks on me which could totally be the case. Not a big Alien fan.) @joanna71985 Someone had posted about the entrance being moved in the MM+ thread. Could you elaborate a little more on this? Thanks.

Do you mean for GMR? If so, I heard once FP+ goes up GMR will be using the extended queue line as the standby line

It's why there are 2 vehicles- while one is going into Western, the other one stops in Gangster. I can tell you, it makes for a fun day when all the vehicles are operating
I originally thought that, and to some degree still do, however, I cannot figure out how the timing for the Indy works. When they stop in the western scene or the gangster scene, I thought we always had a driver with us at the time, but how could that be. I'm getting more confused and considerably more impressed the more I think about it. Perhaps, I should stop thinking about it. :D

It depends on what you like. I very much prefer to ride thought the cowboy part. :)

You start with a 'standard' driver whichever scene you're going to stop at, gangster or western. Let's assume both are operating that day. The cars that are going to stop at the second scene (the western) will pass through the first scene (gangster) without stopping and then stop at the western scene. At this point the 'standard' driver will be hijacked by the cowboy/girl and left behind there whilst the hijacker takes over till you reach the Indie scene where they swap back before continuing to the end.

The cars that are going to stop at the gangster scene will do so when they get there (remember the cars ahead of them are stopped at the western scene having their driver swap scene). At the gangster scene the 'standard' driver will be hijacked by the gangster and left behind there whilst the hijacker takes over till you reach the Indie scene where they swap back before continuing to the end. The gangster scene takes a bit longer if memory serves as they need to give time for the cars ahead time to do their bit and complete the Indie scene swap before moving on. I would also guess the cars travelling with the gangster onboard travel a little slower if the western scene is operating to give them more time to complete their Indie scene and get out of there. I've also noticed the cars stop before the Indie scene (sometimes in Alien) and guess this could be to allow the Indie swap ahead to take place?

I realise what I've written probably reads back as total gibberish (nothing new for me there) but also hope it kind of answers the question and is in fact correct so I don't look foolish :)

If you've been on the ride enough times when both the gangster and bandit scenes are operating, you can tell they both are operating lol. When you have the gangster, you take reeeeeeeallly long going through the Alien scene as the car in front of you needs to get the Indy scene done. On the other hand, if you're with the bandit, you're stuck in the Tarzan scene for what seems like an eternity while you wait for the car behind you to catch up.

Those things have me kinda over it, but I still love the montage at the end lol

Thanks for the very nice explanation, but it still leaves me wondering about something. Either I have never seen it or I just wasn't paying attention, but I only remember one CM in the front of the loading area on the train, saying, ready when you are CB. I don't remember seeing more than the one no matter what vehicle I was in. So if they are split up, how do we get the same one back no matter which way they do it. It seems to me that by the time we get to the Indy scene (we are all back together again). I know I'm not asking this question right and I'm hoping that someone will understand what I'm getting at. That is why I was wondering if maybe one would leave the loading dock and head for one scene and the next would leave after (next cycle) and stop at the other. On slow days or early they would only have two cars running instead of four so they would stop at gangster because it was cheaper to operate. It is all so confusing. I usually don't have any problem figuring out how they make things work, but, this one and American Adventure were always a puzzle to me. I found out how AA worked by taking the back stage tour. And it seems like Martin doesn't have a tribute for the Great Movie Ride and all You-Tube can offer are ride throughs.

I understand what you are saying and have always wondered the same thing. I gave up and just enjoy the ride.

Finally got the cowboy scene after several trips without it. Both aliens were also working. This was during opening SWW. I'm guessing the aliens just malfunction at times.

When I was on my trip the week after SWW ended, both aliens were working great, and the car rolling out was good, too. I was impressed by the upkeep on that ride.

Without spoiling the magic, here's the answer you're looking for. You're thinking of the tractor and trailer parts of each vehicle as individual. They are not. Each vehicle consists of a tractor (where the Tour Guide/Gangster/Bandit seat is) and a trailer, where there is no driver seat. This is one vehicle. GMR's dock can support two vehicles at a time. When there are two vehicles, they both follow the same path. The A vehicle stops in Western and the B stops in Gangster. Because the Gangster scene is longer and because each vehicle goes different speeds in certain sections (depending on if it's an A or B vehicle), they follow each other distant enough where you never see the second vehicle unless you're suppose to.

Hope that helps.

That part I think I knew, but that just makes my question more confusing. If Tractor and Trailer A leave the loading dock at the same time as Tractor and Trailer B who will get to Chicago first...no, sorry I digressed for a moment there. If I have that part correct, why is it that I only see one CM (driver) in the very first vehicle and no driver in the second one. Or am I just missing that part? Is there a second driver? If A had it's own driver and B had its own Driver AND they A & B get to the Indy scene at different times, then I understand how they set it up. But, and believe me I am quite suspicious of my memory on this, I thought the two section arrived at the same time and only one Indy show happened per ride. If what everyone is trying to say is that they are separate, with separate drivers how do we all get together at the end and seem to only have one driver? I suspect that those two entities remain separate until we get to the montage area where they show the old movies in the big room but it does seem like we all are together at "The Wizard of Oz" part. :confused:o_O

Is this perhaps Disney's best kept secret and no floor plans exist for the ride that we curious people can look at and figure out how it all works. They have them for others, why not GMR?
