Frozen

If Frozen only drops 27% each week from here on out it will pass Despicable Me 2. Very likely because that is basically what Tangled did this stage of its run.

If Frozen only drops 19% then it will hit 400 Million. Tough but possible. Everyone needs to get out and see it again. :D

Frozen is doing great in South America... already did great in most of Europe. Unlikely to hit 1 Billion. Would need to do great in Japan and China and doesn't open there until March.

Non-Holiday weekdays have been low which is expected for a family film. It beat 1 million yesterday meaning its streak of days over 1 million will hit at least 47.

Frozen needs a big weekend.

Well, the weather is improving significantly in parts of the country, certainly in my area. It's gonna be rainy, but it's also going to be above freezing. That might help things.

Well I finally saw the movie, and I thought it was just OK. People had talked this movie way up and it's doing ludicrous numbers at the box office, so my expectations for it were way out of line. It was better than Brave or any of the pre-Lasseter Disney CGI movies, but not at all up to the standards of Tangled or Wreck-it-Ralph.

One thing that bugged me- it seemed to suffer from Beauty and the Beast syndrome, where all the songs are sung and over with at the beginning of the third act. I've always liked these sorts of musicals better when the characters continue to sing even as they fight/resolve the conflict at the end of the movie.

This movie was begging for a sad reprise of "Reindeers are Better Than People" as the ice-seller guy is contemplating whether or not to go back to help the princess, or a minor-key version of "Love is an Open Door" when the other dude reveals his plans.

Also, has anyone figured out why this movie was rated PG?
Did Disney voluntary request a PG rating because they thought it would help sell it?

I think it's simply because of changes in the rating system. You'll notice that most of the Disney animated films since 2000 have been PG, with Winnie the Pooh being the only G-Rated film that comes to mind in that period.

Don't disagree. However it was already long for an Animated movie.

Another reason might be that the ending did not change but the 2nd act quite a bit and that might have forced the removal of some songs.

I do think a 'Do you want to build a snowman' reprise or a 3rd 'For the 1st time in forever' reprise could have been used in the final scene.

Wasn't Tangled the same? I don't remember a song in the 3rd act.

There was one written. It's on the deluxe album. I haven't heard it to know where in the movie it would've been.

To clarify the version you are talking about on the album is more of an elton john parody of the song piano and all, and it was meant for the end credits (if you haven't heard it do yourself a favor and heart it, its hilarious). Also I agree with both of these statements, its becoming the new norm for these new Disney Fairy Tales to not end on a musical number which I am not a fan of. Tangled needed an I see the light reprise at the end (Btw it didn't end with a musical number you are correct!) and Frozen could have benefited from a Do you want to build a snowman reprise at the end of the film or a For the first time in forever one.

To correct myself a bit, Beauty and the Beast actually did have a pretty good third act song.

I want to say "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" kept coming up in the underscore during some of the later scenes, but it would have been neat if the snow queen had sung a reprise to her sister while she was turned to ice.

Also, maybe I'm alone here, but I can't think of that song without constantly thinking of this one.

Like this ^ and yes the song did get a nice little part in the music at the end which I was satisfied with. And for that last part you might not be alone but I certainly don't think it sounds anywhere close to that song other than the words build a snowman.

Yep... the final instrumental as they panned up from the skating to the snowflake was a version of do you want to build a snowman.

I personally would not have changed a thing when Anna froze. One of the most emotional scenes I've ever seen.

Every time I've seen the movie ( 9 times :jawdrop: ) the theater has been dead silent for those 15-30 seconds.

I agree, I don't think her singing in that moment would have added anything, it might have made it surreal as she is singing to her dead sisters statue. I think her breakdown was perfect.

Frozen has now made an estimate of $317 million in the US/Canada. This tops Lion King's original domestic total of $312 million, and if it makes $340 million will surpass Finding Nemo's too. This is of course, not adjusting for inflation, but expect to see Disney and others promote these figures soon enough.

From Entertainment Weekly -

Disney’s Frozen held strong in second place, dipping a scant 23 percent to $15.1 million in its seventh weekend of wide release. The animated smash has now grossed a truly spectacular $317.7 million against a $150 million budget. Notably, the princess film’s box office success is driving its soundtrack to impressive numbers as well. The disc climbed to the top of the Billboard 200 this week, relegating Beyoncé’s self-titled behemoth to second place. If it continues to melt this slowly, Frozen should finish above $350 million domestically.

Frozen wins best animated feature Golden Globe! It lost best song, damn you U2.
It was robbed of the best song, who and what decides the winners for the golden globes? Disney needs to have Idina perform in some publicized event between now and the oscars to get the buzz going for it
