Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

Here's an idea: Instead of putting a Frozen overlay on Maelstrom, why not put it on...Expedition Everest?

Think about it: replace the train with sleds. Put a lot more snow all over everything. Replace the queue with an Ice Palace motif. And best of all....replace the yeti with Olaf. He's a hell of a lot smaller, so it'd be an easy AA to maintain. Or just keep the yeti figure and spray fake snow all over it; then give it minimal movement, have it roar a little or something. It'd look like Elsa's big snow-henchman from the film. Heck, TDO could put a little show scene in that cave area, with Olaf, the reindeer, perhaps Anna and Kristoff.

And the lame yeti screen (where he's tearing up the tracks) could be replaced with Olaf too. At least in that case the obvious animation wouldn't seem so fake and jarring. Also in that area, an Elsa AA could sing "Let It Go" and the room could sparkle like she's making magic ice and whatnot.

Believe it or not, I'm only half-kidding here. EE is a failure. TDO is always getting ribbed about it. Well, TDO, here's the solution. Think about it.
EE was far from a failure the first time I rode it. That Yeti grabbing at the train, I actually lowered myself in the seat saying "HOLY $&!@" thinking it would get me. That thing was truly a monster when it worked. Ah, good times. Good times....... :( It's still a fun coaster, but it's missing that big punch it used to have.

I don't consider Everest a "failure", but it is an unfinished experience. Proper maintenance goes without saying for all the cut show elements from when it was new, but the unthemed backwards tunnel through the mountain needs to be addressed. Keep Frozen the hell away from it though.

Sadly, I've never experienced the fully-functioning Yeti on EE. Heck, as of this writing, I've never even SEEN him in person...not even in disco mode....the train just went through the dark hall and then that was it. :p

this unfinished trend really irritates me. Everest, Spaceship Earth, Space Mountain etc,,,,does anyone not think that if they do a frozen overlay in maelstrom there wont be black curtains hanging somewhere of some sort?? :banghead:

If Disney goes ahead with this ill-conceived, thematically inappropriate overlay of Frozen in Norway, I'm honestly afraid we'll get a travesty along the lines of Journey into Your Imagination (the one without Figment) or Under New Management in the Tiki Room. Many refurbishments and attraction overlays have not gone well;
Walt Disney World's track record here is not good.

And yes, that's assuming they don't do a half-baked job, and gut the original (still perfectly good, in Spaceship Earth's case) but never seem to get around to (fully) replacing it with anything.

For some reason I just don't enjoy Space Mountain in the MK. I feel like I'm going to fly out, whack my head, and it just seems way too rough. I don't know, I just never remember enjoying the MK version. I'm mixed on coasters anyway, some I can do, some I just don't enjoy for some reason. IDK. Although it has been years since I've been on that and Disneyland's, so maybe my opinion could change on them. I'm weird with coasters. lol

I don't enjoy it either. Last time I rode it, I walked off it with a severe crick in the neck. Getting slammed around and suffering aches and pains from a ride isn't my idea of fun. I'm not riding it again until it gets a MAJOR upgrade.

I will say though for all the unfinished and underperformed refurbs, Disney has done some right.

Haunted Mansion is the first that comes to mind. IMO, they really nailed it on that one. Pirates, Tower of Terror, Test Track, and even Space Mountain for the most part were quality refurbs. I understand the gripe with Space, but for me I'd rather keep the old-fashioned version. The worst part of that refurb for me was the inclusion of audio. I used to love the darkness and relative silence. All you heard was the click clack of the tracks and the screams. There was something about that relative silence in the dark that made the ride very unique from the other Space Mountain interpretations and quite nostalgic. The fact that I can't really hear the on ride music till the end is kind of a plus for me.

Anyway, not saying that Frozen in Norway will be without black curtains and such. Just saying that not all refurbs have been poor. It's really hit or miss, which again isn't an excuse.

Wow Epcotim.. what the hell?

It's funny. My posts have been the antithesis of arguing, but you guys can't handle anyone not agreeing completely with your position, so you have to continue attacking and attacking. Do you honestly think that you are somehow going to bring everyone who disagrees over to your side through this kind of juvenile behavior?

Accept that some people reasonably disagree with you and, you know, let it go.

there is a huge difference in "not agreeing" and outright telling others how they are brainwashed, clueless and gullible if they do not share your opinion.. which a lot of your post feels like that.

I think Tim, like others; already had enough of your "my opinion is the only right one and I'm going to push everyone until they have the same opinion as me" tone.

But I have to give you something, you're at least more balanced than the Eric guy, who took everything personally and threw everything he had into @pheneix face

they could just change the yeti destroying the tracks with the bad giant snowman and only add Olaf to the disco yeti one.

Its strange that you post that when on numerous occasions, I made it clear that my posts were merely my opinion and specifically stated that it's fine if others disagree. That's hardly the sign of someone who's interested in fighting to the death on the issue.

Proper WDI sanctioned on board and off board audio. New cars. Full makeover of the queues. All new track and substructure. All new visual effects. Exterior building lighting.

Instead we got much needed hardware and RCS systems, a lick of paint here and there, a mediocre third party PA system and much hoopla over unneeded queue games and load hall roofs that manage to further block the Peoplemover view.

If you've ridden the DLP version you know how awesome the visuals could be. If you've ridden Disneylands you know how a cohesive retheme of the building interiors plus how smooth the track can be and how synced music adds to the experience. Add all that together plus more and you get the idea.

Need I continue?
Is there any chance SM gets a proper refurb in the foreseeable future? With no major projects currently going on at MK, that could be something I could see them doing to fill the gaps between new additions. But it's only worth anyone's time if they're actually willing to pony up.

Also, maybe it's just me, but i'm not a huge fan of the Disneyland version. The onboard audio and smoothness of the track is great, but the thing that truly matters most, track layout, is actually worse than the Orlando counterpart in my opinion. The entire track is just turn after turn. The thing I love about MK's space is the drops. I missed that with DL's.

Why don't we just retheme everything to Frozen? Change the name of MK to "Elsa's Kingdom" and Animal Kingdom can become "ANNAmal Kingdom". Blizzard Beach becomes "Olaf's Beach" and Disney Springs becomes "Wandering Oaken's Village Shoppes".

Big plans for Epcot. World Showcase gets rethemed to "Arrendelle". That's right, all of it. Screw thematic integrity, right?

Hollywood studios continues to suck. It gets nothing (and never will!).

Wouldn't that just be great?

I've not caught up with everything yet but as a SWISS guy living in Switzerland I'm more than offended that they want to change the Yeti in Matterhorn in Anaheim.

Norway is not Switzerland.
