Disney will NOT let any chance of BIG profits $$$$ go to waste ;)

May the Maelstrom be FROZEN!!! :D
I watched Frozen 4 times this weekend and I sure hope they turn Norway into Frozen land, remove Maelstrom and keep the awesome food joint and 1982 bathrooms. Disney so needs to do this!!

I've been much too busy to frequent the boards lately.

Is Frozen coming or isn't it? The proposed project hasn't been green lighted and would definitely feel more like an overlay than a new ride. But most of WDI wasn't happy with the "Three Caballeros" redo at Mexico or with Space Mt, and I can't see that sort of half-job being accepted again.

I realize that I still haven't answered the question.

The answer is that nothing has been decided yet.
Three Caballeros is extremely embarrassing. Just sad for whoever thought it was ok.

Whatever happens to Norway and or Maelstrom, Norway itself and the tourist board have nothing to do with it I can confirm. In their words, "it's all in Disney's hands". (unfortunately).

Why don't we just take a moment and talk about why NOT to do this to the Norway pavilion.

(logistics, crowd flow, nostalgia...etc...)

and...ready...GO.

In fact, it is quite the opposite, Maelstrom is in need of a refurb, it is almost 26 years old and there has been quite of few changes to the queue lines and guest access. The biggest problem right now is that load and unload are in different location, so when people leave their ECV's or wheelchairs then they have to relocate them to unload so the handicap hallway is also used as the fast pass line, so they have to close the fast pass line to allow them to move all the ECV's and wheelchairs to unload and then reopen the fast pass line. Also it gets crowded at load with many ECV's so it also makes difficult to move around the area and especially if you are trying to get to the tower.

So if they turn into a Frozen ride then all of a sudden they have a lot of money to the refurb, a lot of things need to be changed and updated.

Because it doesn't belong there. It will be a nightmare when/if this is done. The lines will probably be much longer than they were for the M&G and I'm sure it would even spill out of the pavilion. They should take their time and build a new ride designed for Frozen and the crowds it would attract in Magic Kingdom.

The entire courtyard is or would be in need of a reconfiguration. If a Frozen themed ride were made, the lines would be massive and with the already congested area due to storage of strollers for the restaurant would be insane with the added storage for the ride's strollers. An award winning queue system will be needed.

If Disney absolutely must do this - and again, it's a bad idea which thematically doesn't fit in World Showcase - it is my hope all they do are place some Frozen figures/AA's within the existing, and largely unaltered, Maelstrom attraction. Something along the lines of the Disney characters in Disneyland's It's a Small World, is what I'm thinking.

We wouldn't lose Maelstrom and it would be removable in the future.

It's still a mistaken concept, though.

OHHHH NOOOO, DON'T MAKE A RIDE BECAUSE IT WILL ATTRACT PEOPLE WHO WILL LIKE IT!

:arghh:;)

Not enough room to do anything really that interesting with it in terms of going the cheap overlay route.
This. My biggest fear isn't a change to the pavilion as much as the ride itself won't be very good. As someone else mentioned, this is the 5th highest-grossing movie of all time and beyond that has really resonated with the public more than any movie in a long time. I can understand wanting to take advantage of that, but if that really is their goal, they need to do something on a scale that will do the movie justice. Heck, I am usually one of the first people to say "Wait until the attraction is done" before criticizing it but this just seems like such a bad idea from the start that I am having trouble letting it go.

I can't see them being inserted into the ride as is without looking out of place. Things are going to have to be completely altered to fit the characters in no matter what. Plus, it would just be a constant reminder of what used to be and is never coming back (They wouldn't remove the Frozen figures until we are long dead probably).
