Maelstrom currently uses Trolls, a Polar Bear, and a movie that nobody watches.....I don't think Frozen is a step down. Frozen is actually bringing people into Norway, and the attraction they have now that shows how frozen relates to Norway is pretty neat.
So all that matters is getting people into Norway pavilion and after that its a free for all of misguided representations? That doesnt sound disrespectful at all. smh. And last I checked, "neat" was not a synonym for "accurate".

Since you are begging for someone to respond. Here it is: I think that it is likely that the one news story that you dug up isn't necessarily representative of how everyone in Norway feels on this issue. I would bet that far and away, most Norwegians are not aware of the issue, at all. Further, I bet that most Norwegians are not even aware that there is a Norwegian pavilion in Epcot. Finally, I bet that if someone impartially explained the issue to them, that most Norwegians would not care one way or the other and that the remainder would fall on either side of the issue. Some would like it. Some would hate it.

That's a lot of betting on your part. Even if only a small portion of Norwegians know about WS, do we really want the rest of the world to think that Americans only associate Norway with a Disney film? At least the rest of the Mexico pavilion is still fairly representative of Mexican culture. The news clip says that most of the Norway pavilion as a whole is being converted to a tribute to a film that doesn't even represent the country. This whole thing will really just give people from other countries one more reason to think Americans are naive and self-centered.

the bolder part is exactly the point that I earlier made. A few people in a news story regarding a rumored change to the Norway pavilion doesn't mean anything. Like many in this thread, they are arguing against a rumor, rather than the company's actual plans.

Honestly, much of this thread makes me think that people get their opinions of the world and how the US is viewed abroad from Fox News, rather than actually going abroad.

For my part, I have watched the Norway film, and enjoyed it, and I pity anyone who hasn't seen it. Norway has an incredible history. It makes me want to visit the country. And someday I will...after I visit Paris and Italy and Ireland etc.

No. The guy who was working there actually said much of the shop in the pavilion has already been done away with. He even said they were told specific months to plan for the ride to be down. The church has already been "Frozened" up. This isn't going to be a subtle reference to the movie. It's going to be "sorry Norway, but our movie is more important than your culture. "

You didn't even notice the huge assumption the you just made. The mere fact that there will be ride downtime doesn't suggest that the result won't be respectful of Norway. Further, the way you refer to the church suggests that you either haven't seen it yet or that you are willing to let your bias override reality.

I was just there in June and saw the church. You can't go anywhere near it without seeing references to Frozen. There are signs at both entries that say that the church inspired the movie and references throughout the displays inside. Add the fact that a self-identified CM said on camera that the shop is getting the same treatment, and assuming that the ride will go the same way is hardly a far leap.

Rumored change? Most of the change has already begun. The Stave Church is a Frozen exhibit. Akershus is a Princess restaurant. A portion of the shop that sold Norwegian themed merchandise was transformed into a M&G for Anna & Elsa. The ride itself will be the last piece of the puzzle.

Frozen does not belong in World Showcase.

If only they had some tents taking up space somewhere that they could remove to give it the treatment it deserves....

Of course that would mean spending real money on a new attraction.

The Magic Kingdom doesn't need the attendance bump that a Frozen ride will bring. Frozen will help cement Epcot has the #2 most attended theme park in Orlando.

That is true, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be the #2 most liked park in Orlando. Plenty of people will come to check it out to make it #2 visited, but it may also create some disapointed guests with not only how the ride probably will be, but also 50% of the rest of Epcot

Reality? Lmao. You accept a fictional story in location that is intended to be educational and a representation of a REAL place. Would you want your children learning about Dungeons and Dragons in history class?

If that's a real concern about Frozen in Magic Kingdom it could always go into Hollywood Studios, the only other park where it could make sense. Frozen does not belong in Epcot.

And you know the actual plans? The issue is what is considered to be of a culture far more than aesthetics and execution.

People who actually go abroad would realize that the attitude of "whatever we say you are, you are" is not much appreciated, especially when it comes from Americans.
