Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

No, that's like saying the WS was designed to allow visitors to sample other countries and their cultures without having Disney characters thrown in their face at every turn....
Well, at first it was (with the weird bobble head doll characters instead.) But people complained that there weren't any characters. I think people felt this way because EPCOT is in WALT DISNEY WORLD and there is a bit of an expectation that you will see Disney characters in WALT DISNEY WORLD. Otherwise you could go to any major metro area, visit the museums, restaurants, and ethnic areas of the city to learn about cultures, OR you could go to that country...justsayinsall.

Seriously though, if seeing Disney characters in a relevant setting (Donald, Jose, Panchito, or Elsa and whosewhats) cheeses you off then don't go to WDW, it just isn't your cup o'tea.
I think most people would like to see a Mary Poppins attraction in UK, a new frozen ride in Norway, and a Ratatouille restaurant and attraction in France...it is Walt Disney World.

True. I just think Epcot has tremendous potential that is not being fully realized. And adding capacity to Soarin' (as is rumored) is good, however there is so much more that could be done that would put the park on equal footing with the MK. And for relatively little capital.

I think most of us can agree on that much.

For the record:
- I do not approve of characters in World Showcase. Barely tolerate them in Epcot at all.
- Yes, WDW needs more adult offerings. Not sure WS is the place. DTD is better.
- Not in favor of more separate ticket events. Or up-charges.

Funny that. It used to be open until 11pm every night until they cut the hours.

See, heres what I don't get. I'll use this past January as an example. Its cold in Fla, its cold all over the country. The parks are supposedly "slow". But Epcot, at night, was busy. Not a packed-in, nightmare zoo type busy, but busy. People in every country. At least 3 or 4 people in every drink line I went too. The pub was packed. The "bar" in Morocco was busy. The tequila bar in Mexico was way beyond capacity and there was a huge collective of people in front of the que for the 3 caballeros trying to finish their drinks cause the guy running it wasn't allowing them on. The wine bar in Italy was swamped. The line for Maelstrom was well into the plaza.

You get the idea. Then, as usual, they start shutting down shop at 9. People are running to Canada for one last beer, the line for Guinness in UK became staggering. I'm not talking a few people here either. Thats money on the table. So go after the money. Stop doing this stupid dance where you can't decide if you want to cater to kids or adults and just do something. Keep the place open til 1. Provide more entertainment, add some intriguing concepts to the rides, try to appeal to people who have no interest in meeting some adult in a costume. Its one thing they could do to help take away some of that "Disney is for kids" stigma they have. Try and attract more well to do adults, people with more sophisticated interests--they have money, too. Make rides without cartoon characters. Disney has the perfect opportunity to right in front of it, to open itself to a whole new pool, a whole new demographic, one with lots of cash--and what do they do?

They send them home at 9.

The occasional tie-in or M&G is one thing. Having them in every pavilion, or turning one entire pavilion into an overgrown prop is another....

Nope.
I wouldn't want AC anywhere I would have to buy a park ticket to access it.

So are you the one that got the gates removed from PI?

I would like to similar offerings added to the parks. Hoop-dee-doo type dinner shows would work in the parks. IMO.

Also, regarding that article, I do hope Disney changes their mind. I'm not sure if any of that would play too big of a part in it, but my hope is that the Frozen event this summer is a big enough hit that a light-bulb finally goes off in someone's head that they should actually build a real, awesome, trackless ride based on the movie rather than retro-fit an 80's boat ride.

Sadly, the video does say a lot, but what I take from it is that the government of Norway is to blame. As stated, one of the richest countries in the world and their own power players in the government and corporate world refuse to fight for their pavilion. They left the door wide open for Disney to bastardize that pavilion into anything they want. I'm most sad about reduced space for Helly Hansen, I've got two awesome jackets from the Puffin's Roost. Oddly, priced at the same price point as a Helly Hansen store located outside WDW.
