I will say, I like the MK parties. I just got tickets for the MNSSHP in October for three reasons:
1. The Mrs. likes it a lot.
2. Free candy!
3. I get about 8 hours in the MK for $67. ('Cuz I ain't paying $100 for a day visit.)

I did my first party last October and it was GREAT. The character meets were fun, free candy, excellent parade, AND you can hear Guns 'N Roses music in Adventureland!

Funny that. It used to be open until 11pm every night until they cut the hours.

Yes I remember. And as I said earlier they would do everyone a great service by rethinking how Epcot is operated. Extended hours that are consistent would help a lot.

And so would midnight fireworks IMO.

Illuminations may be the oldest show still running at a Disney park. Time to pull the plug.

Regardless of its age, people from all over plan their day at Epcot around making sure they get to see it. In fact, it's generally one of the first fastpass options to fill up daily. Clearly, very few people would agree that the show is on its last leg and needs to be replaced.

Back to the up charge thing...

It's pretty much the only way to get me to a WDW park right now, short of a CM walking me in.
Those are the exact same reasons for me. The parties are still a good deal to me.

I just think there is room for improvement technologically speaking and have always thought there were issues with the way the show is scaled.

But more than that, I think Epcot should stay open later and guests have been conditioned to seeing Illuminations as the end of the day. In my opinion WS should just be getting started at 9 PM.

I know plenty of kids who would gladly join in for a Frozen sing along and I could go ice skating for much less right now if I really wanted.

If you have not read the review you should. You get quite a lot for the upcharge. I can see where a lot of folks who are fans of the movie would consider it. I was actually impressed with how much is offered.

I do agree with you that WS should stay open later, but the problem is that Disney has already found a way to get an upcharge fee out of guests in the form of the Wind Down event. No, this doesn't keep all of WS open later, but it does give guests who want that later experience an option, so I just can't see them getting rid of an upcharge event (that requires reservations in advance and a fee if you don't show up) to gamble on people staying on a whim after a long day in the park. I wish they would, but it doesn't sound likely.

As far as Illuminations goes, I see what you mean about how it could stand improvements, but I think they could easily update the show without scrapping it altogether if they really wanted to do so.

We agree mostly. Just like to see the show move to midnight without the too small globe and many more fireworks, lasers and other effects. And then they could use a catch phrase that is something like," Epcot, where every night is New Years Eve"..... or something.

For the record:
- I do not approve of characters in World Showcase. Barely tolerate them in Epcot at all.
- Yes, WDW needs more adult offerings. Not sure WS is the place. DTD is better.
- Not in favor of more separate ticket events. Or up-charges.

Was there anything else?

My plan would reopen the AC at the UK pavilion. Reasonable ticket prices. Reservations strongly suggested. Hooked yet?

That would be cool and all... if Disney would move away from the Wind Down and give people a chance to spend more on drinks and snacks than the $35 per person fee (which is easy to do when one is trying to do even a sampling of drinks from different countries). I don't want to turn this thread into another one that knocks the Wind Downs because I know people here who have enjoyed it, but I think Disney would get more money out of WS at night if they did away with them and just left at least one food/drink place at each pavilion open later.

I would think they would have the traditional food and drink offerings as always. But they could add small optional ticketed events at each pavilion. I think Mexico and other pavilions have small programs that could be greatly expanded. Entertainment, dessert samplings, wine tastings, the list is endless for every taste and budget. Plus fireworks.

Right, but what I'm saying is that as long as they already have the Wind Down that people are willfully paying for without having to keep everything else open, we're not likely to see any of the rest of this come to fruition. It's fun to daydream though :)

True. I just think Epcot has tremendous potential that is not being fully realized. And adding capacity to Soarin' (as is rumored) is good, however there is so much more that could be done that would put the park on equal footing with the MK. And for relatively little capital.
