Neat! Anything in particular strike you as exceptionally nifty?

My apologies if this continues a thread drift, just wanted to answer this question. They have these salt and pepper shakers that are made to look like the various trash cans in the different lands of MK... They're pretty bomb. Some badass plates available too.

So about this Frozen overlay. Count me in the camp that thinks it's a pretty bad idea. For one, Frozen deserves better than a cheap overlay. For seconds, I'm pretty fond of Maelstrom.

I'm somewhat forgiving of characters in Future World (key word being "somewhat"), but they have no place in World Showcase. This will only further the downgrading of the culture of WS that was started when they destroyed El Rio Del Tiempo.

No proof at all that it will be a "cheap overlay". Just speculation from the more and more often misinformed.

Centerpiece in the new Marketplace Co-Op is stuffed with park and land specific merchandise. Much of it is retro and all of it is pretty cool.
Part of that desire is to have the merchandise in its respective locations within the parks. And since Disney themselves described the Co-op as a place to test merchandise ideas, it means they still have to belief in the concept they pioneered, abandoned as unprofitable and have now been embarrassed by.

I don't know. It seems that plussing the enjoment of the park for my kids is the most compelling argument, for me.
Right, but look at what kid's gravitate towards. They gravitate towards motion that they can see. They gravitate towards spinners, tea cups and Primeval Whirl. Even the more complex attractions that they gravitate towards are ones where the motion of the attraction can be seen like Thunder Mountain or the Mine Train. They gravitate towards that because they understand that, their are no surprises to them. Comparatively, children shy away from something like Space Mountain because it's in the dark. They go with what they know.

Adults are the same way in some respects but what they gravitate towards isn't necessarily motion but stuff they can understand. We want Beastly Kingdom because we've seen concept art and heard what the attractions will be, it's a concept that we understand. We fear Avatar because there is a significant unknown in the form of a ride system we don't understand. We try to minimize it by boiling it down to it's simplest component (a screen) and call it, "Soarin' on Steroids". It's lazy thinking.

We're dismissing Frozen because we're thinking it's going to use the same flume as Maelstrom (probably likely) and therefore be of the same quality as an attraction that most are regarding as mediocre. On top of that, we understand that it will be a thematic break from World Showcase and we like it even less. In contrast, others want it to be an LPS attraction because we understand that ride system as something that works with major family friendly E-tickets. We're failing to grasp that something like an LPS ride based on Frozen could suck, while Frozen in the Maelstrom building could be good. But it's the unknown so we've boiled it down to what we understand.

Right, I think it deserves at least some excitement that such a store even exists. It means there's hope for such things in the parks again. I think Disney is learning something from how well unique merchandise is doing in Cali at DCA and right up I-4 with the boy who lived.

You can't fault a guy for being optimistic. I'm as critical of the current state of affairs as anybody, but I can also recognize when some good is being done. It's no fun being so negative all the time about something you love. I still love WDW in an unhealthy way and always will. I'm not ashamed of that.

I don't honestly think anybody could say it better.

Proposed budget, proposed scale of works, track record of the past 15 years...

Anyone informed - not misinformed as you put it - would be able to piece quite a good idea together.

Next you will say CMM is getting a cheap overlay.

But I am your biggest fan today. Caught that easter egg you left about a possible retheme in a land to the north. Interesting.

OK, must go because world cup.

Because Frozen is loosely based on a Danish story set in a place inspired by Norway. That makes it Norwegian.

I don't see how anybody could not understand how incredibly wrong this would be.

It's almost as bad as if they had decided to replace a charming boat tour of Mexico with a nonsensical series of videos where a Brazilian parrot searches for an American duck. Oh, wait...

Lol!

At least the Mexico ride features cultural aspects of Mexico, places to visit / things to do, even a map of the country at the end. Somehow I don't see that happening to Maelstrom.
