I did visit in 87. My point is they aren't "coasting". If they were, we wouldn't see anything new happening anywhere and that's simple not the case and that's obvious
From thefreedictionary.com: Coasting
To act or move aimlessly or with little effort
When you are coasting, you are still moving forward, you are not stopped completely. Recently, Walt Disney World has been doing very little, relying on the momentum of prior investment and construction. That is very much a description of coasting.
The construction going on now isn't because things have been neglected. If you look at it that way, you could make a case for any construction that it could have been done sooner and had been neglected until that time.
The expansions of the hub, AK, and Disney Springs is a big deal and that's obvious by the amount of construction going on
What I love is when people complain about Disney not doing anything and then turn around and also complain about them doing something (bad show, disruption, my favorite ride is down, etc etc)
my theory - some people are just going to complain even if it's perfect
When you put something off you really ought to be doing (like work this afternoon for many of us here...), that's called neglect. If you let your roof go for so long it starts leaking, that's neglect. Choosing to build a gazebo after you've saved up the money is not neglect. There is a difference.
There is also a difference between a justified complaint - something was broken or did not meet standards - and simply whining because you didn't get your personal preferences (Peoplemover closed during your visit, Anna & Elsa smiled more at the next kid, etc.). If you read what people are posting you can generally and quickly tell the difference between someone whining (which they have the right to do, but still) and a person who has a legitimate grievance.
Complaints on the news & rumors board here can get overblown occasionally, but seldom is there no justification whatsoever, and the source of the grievance is generally both documented and valid. You cannot arbitrarily dismiss a justified complaint just because there will always be complaints.
If this were a record would we flick the needle?
Smack it with a hammer...
