That’s not how they are being used. They are being used for a game of hide and seek. How do mermaids and aliens promote world peace?

I disagree. The message is still there. The characters are not necessary, but I don't think they eliminated the message of world peace. And who is to say that mermaids and aliens can't promote world peace?

I mean, did Disney literally announce that Small World was no longer about world peace?
I didn't come up with this joke myself, but I still wanna post it here...

Question: why is "it's a small world" in Fantasyland?
Answer: because it's about world peace - and if that's not a fantasy, I don't know WHAT is!

We are all in the same boat together. Whether you are from India, China, Europe, South America, under the sea, an escaped alien experiment or a puppet that wants human flesh, we are all one Small World.

Exactly. And who's to say that Disney characters cannot help promote world peace?

I don't know if they still do it now, but I remember when Mickey and the gang were seen at World Showcase in appropriate garb, depending on the country depicted in the pavilion. Did they ever go against the concept of world culture?

Because it takes about two seconds for Disney to transition from "here's character!" to "BUY OUR STUFF WHETHER OR NOT IT FITS!!!"

And they're not subtle with their approach ever.

I think peoples issues with the characters in IASW is more a matter of principal and not that they actually diminish the ride experience. Now if they changed the song their would be hell to pay. I think most of the characters are integrated tastefully. I think the little Melodies that go along with the character and his/her/they/them/it’s movie can probably go but they don’t really bother me either.

Seriously. Disney insisted recognizable characters be added for a very specific reason unrelated to the ride’s message.

The Imagineers did it as tastefully as possible. We lost a really fun rain forest room and gained a tribute to Superstar Limo.

Disney’s done worse to the park. Far, far worse.

I’m astonished they’re not putting an expensive Pinocchio remake starring Tom Hanks into theaters. I’m thinking either the film isn’t testing well or they’re just incredibly stupid.

Anyone who wants to see this movie would already be a subscriber.

It just seems to me like Frozen has passed its market here in the US. I know every child loves it (there must be some subliminal messages or something), but I just feel like it's star has faded. Maybe because everyone is sick of it. 🥲

I remember Knotts Scary Farm had a Pinocchio Unstrung maze where the puppet went mad after not being turned into a real boy so he decided to make people into puppets and use their flesh to become human.

The current model is remakes/sequels of older films (princesses notwithstanding) go to Disney+ to boost the originals list there (Hocus Pocus 2, Disenchanted, Sister Act 3 also fall under this umbrella). I think Disney understands that live action remakes of Lady and the Tramp and Pinocchio aren't going to set the box office on fire, but IMO, not putting Hocus 2 in theaters is a mistake and leaving money on the table. Mermaid, Snow White and Hercules will all be theatrical releases.

Lady and the Tramp was a remake no one wanted or cared about. Pinocchio’s a Tom Hanks film with a big budget that’s getting a lot of positive press and public awareness. It just seems an odd, blinders-on approach to categorization to me. Now it’s on the same public perception tier as the Del Toro Pinocchio (which I’m looking forward to much more).

That Snow White remake sounds to me like a bellyflop waiting to happen…but I’ve been wrong before.

Happy to be wrong but where is the positive press you're seeing? I will admit to not paying much attention to it. In general I've only seen memes kind of mocking the almost-horror of CGI Pinocchio himself.

I will check it out but I have low expectations because of Zemeckis, who has disappointed over and over in recent years with his myopia for tech over storytelling.

Generally speaking, everyone who loves Pinocchio has expressed disgust at anything they've seen coming from the live action remake. Several people who had played Pinocchio at the Disney parks especially.
