"Frozen" coming to Disneyland?

It's like they were going for drag queen or transgender but didn't quite push the button entirely.
Now, stop that! More likely, I think, is that they took the dullest, most no-personality character from the original and said, “Let’s have fun with this one. A fairy can be anyone. Let’s make her look otherworldly—like she did NOT just step out of a 193O’s magazine cover.”

As an aside, I’ve been watching The Sandman, so I’m pretty open to otherworldly choices right now.

Disney just released the 2nd trailer:

First reactions:

Everything looks pretty good except… there’s a disconnect with Pinocchio himself, as his classic animated look contrasts with every other visual choice made.

Honest John and Gideon look fantastic—They’re my favorite thing about this so far.
Stromboli looks threatening enough.
The animals look fine. Jiminy is hit n’ miss.
Brief glimpse of Pleasure island looks great.
Disappointed that Monstro is a realistically styled whale.
Hanks looks fine.

Honestly looking forward to checking it out. It will never equal the original masterpiece, but if it gets more people to go back and watch the original, that’s a good thing.

1940s hand drawn top of the line animation or cgi that looks like the early 2000s. I don't see the point in this remake. It's not live action besides a few characters. It's CG vs 2D animation. Easy choice.

Agree, but it exists and it looks fun and if it gets any people to watch the original who would never have seen it otherwise, then yay.

If, indeed, it *is* fun. I’m all for watching a new cast give their takes on the characters. But if it’s NOT fun, then it is indeed pointless.

But this is Robert Zemeckis, one of my favorite filmmakers. I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s assembled one way or the other.

Thats my issue with these live action movies, they are just meant to be temporary forgettable cash grabs.

Back to the Future is great but if I can watch a Walt Disney classic film or a modern cg remake of it, it's an easy choice.

Believe me, out of all Disney’s remakes, the only one I really enjoyed was Jungle Book, and that was because it had a lot of new ideas. But even that film hasn’t left so much as a blip in the public consciousness.

1940 Pinocchio, like the 1951 Alice and Garland’s Oz, is one of my favorite films of all time. All three led me to read their original books, and I love to check out (nearly) any new adaptation of these stories that brings new performances and/or new narrative twists or styles to the world.

This one’s an odd duck to be sure, but so far photo-real Honest John and Gideon look delightful and Zemeckis seems to have answered the question of who is operating Stromboli’s puppets. If he also reveals the backstory of the men whom the Coachman transformed into the goons who work the docks of Pleasure Island, I’ll be overjoyed. :D

By the way, my DVD collection is in storage, far from me, so I just bought 1940 Pinocchio from iTunes just in case Disney pulls a fast one and vaults it closer to the Tom Hanks film’s debut. Damn, they got money out of me again.

They're going to remove the 1940 movie from Disney Plus?! Or at least from the kids accounts?

I haven’t heard that they’ll do that and I really hope not. I bought it for my Apple account just in case. I don’t plan to keep a Disney+ subscription going past September one way or the other.

I was nearly finished with my Disney / Pixar library (physical and digital) when Disney + came out. I intend to finish my library as well. Anyway, I was a big deal in the family before Disney + came out. All the nephews/ my sisters had access to pretty much every animated Disney or Pixar movie ever made since I shared my Prime Video password with them.

Now I’m nobody.

Original animated Pinocchio: Disney’s Best. Film. Ever.

I'd agree with this- and it's an incredibly important film in animation history.

I'll probably skip this remake like I did Lion King remake- I love the original and don't want to sully it in my mind with whatever subpar film Disney's made.

I was gonna let me $160 3 year Disney Plus subscription that expires in November end... until Amex added the $84 annual Disney bundle credit to the Blue Cash Preferred card. I upgraded my ad free Hulu to that- and with the $7 I get back monthly from Amex I'm paying the exact same price I was for Hulu only, but am getting Disney Plus and ESPN Plus.

I hate both Lion Kings because they get real lion behavior exactly wrong. Males get chased off on the regular by the lionesses for genetic diversity. Otherwise you get half siblings Nala and Simba mating, ew.

What happens when they raise the price in December?

And real lions don’t talk or sing! 😃 I hear you, but LK (the good one, I’m ignoring the remake) was never meant to be an accurate depiction of animal behavior (Hail newborn Prince Simba! May he live to devour us all!), and was mainly designed as an animated version of Hamlet. It was originally named King of the Jungle until someone pointed out that’s not where lions live. 😄

Totally agree about Simba and Nala. Ew is right!

None of you have heard of Cynthia Erivo?

She's also going to be playing Elphaba in the movie(s) of Wicked. She's incredible!

I saw her in The Color Purple on Broadway, and she was so incredible that before I even left the theater that night I had already bought tickets to see it again the next week. A revelation.

Having her as The Blue Fairy is an absolute win for this movie.

If only Pinocchio's face didn't look . . . like it does . . .
