"Frozen" coming to Disneyland?

Happy to be wrong but where is the positive press you're seeing? I will admit to not paying much attention to it. In general I've only seen memes kind of mocking the almost-horror of CGI Pinocchio himself.

I will check it out but I have low expectations because of Zemeckis, who has disappointed over and over in recent years with his myopia for tech over storytelling.
Mainly YouTube channels (The good ones 😄) — Nothing bigger than Beyond The Trailer. It’s all mainly positive reactions to the teaser, the casting and Zemeckis’s involvement (I wanted that Yellow Submarine remake, dammit!)

But this seems like a film Disney could easily have promoted in the mainstream into a big deal. On a lesser scale, they should’ve done the same with Rescue Rangers, which could have enjoyed a couple of big weekends at the box office, as it turned out to be a witty, delightful labor of love and the closest thing we’ll probably ever get to a Roger Rabbit sequel.

Generally speaking, everyone who loves Pinocchio has expressed disgust at anything they've seen coming from the live action remake. Several people who had played Pinocchio at the Disney parks especially.
I guess then by positive reaction I’m just specifically referring to film geeks who think the teaser looks promising compared to other live action/CGI remake artistic disasters, AND are Tom Hanks fans AND are Zemeckis fans AND have never played Pinocchio at the parks. Yep—YouTubers.

I will say it’s one of the only Live action remakes that has caught my attention in a very long time. It looks like it has potential.

I think it’s also got a potential big audience among people who know *of* Pinocchio, but have never seen the animated film.

The original is one of my favorites, but I understand why some people don’t enjoy it as much; beneath its happy theme song, it’s a very dark story, with a fairly grim message, and it doesn’t end with the warm fuzzies— more a sense of relief that this little family survived. I’ll be amazed if the new version keeps that tone.

And I can’t wait to see how close Del Toro’s version stays true to or strays from the original twisted, delightfully messed-up book.

Ok just saw the trailer. I’m a little less intrigued now but will still give it a watch. Still looks better than most of the other live action remakes.

Original animated Pinocchio: Disney’s Best. Film. Ever.

Live action Disney+ version ( based on trailer ): A creepy xerox copy

Del Toro: looks crazy imaginative, could be good

Disney just released the 2nd trailer:

First reactions:

Everything looks pretty good except… there’s a disconnect with Pinocchio himself, as his classic animated look contrasts with every other visual choice made.

Honest John and Gideon look fantastic—They’re my favorite thing about this so far.
Stromboli looks threatening enough.
The animals look fine. Jiminy is hit n’ miss.
Brief glimpse of Pleasure island looks great.
Disappointed that Monstro is a realistically styled whale.
Hanks looks fine.

Honestly looking forward to checking it out. It will never equal the original masterpiece, but if it gets more people to go back and watch the original, that’s a good thing.

Jiminys voice is hit and miss but Cliff Edwards voice as the character is so iconic I don’t know if I’d like anybody else take.

The Blue Fairy is, ummm… interesting?

I haven't been keeping up with the press or reviews, but I do know only 1 in 86 viewers liked the teaser trailer. That's 1.16%. The comments were so negative that Disney turned off the comment section.

The trailer that dropped today seems to be hitting around a 6% like/view ratio which is a major improvement. I've never been into these live-action remakes, but there's an audience for it.

Yes, the Blue Fairy is such a departure that.. I’m intrigued to see more of her performance. It makes me wonder why they made some bold and creative choices here, but insisted that Pinocchio himself look as much like his hand-drawn origin as possible. Tom Hanks as Gepetto is pretty much on-model too.

I...... have strangely a lot of conflicting thoughts and feelings about this, but Honest John and Gideon are AAAAAMAZING

Parent: “Obviously she was the best actress(?) for the job and made the most sense story wise.”

🙄
From IMDB, she is actually a well regarded actress. I think I object to the CG glowy back part of the head. It feels a little Ex Machina. It is like robot circuits or something. I think if they removed the glowie-ness or just gave her flowing hair, it would have worked better.

Story wise, there’s really no reason for a fairy to look like a 1930’s blonde bombshell. The original is understandably full of pop culture references to the time it was made.

Otherworldly is good here.

True but as you said they kept nearly everything else pretty much on model. So why do we suppose they went with such a departure for the Blue Fairy? They had to be diverse somewhere and the original animated version didn’t have any.

Nope they just went straight to bald to be edgy.

I’m totally okay with that; the Coachman is also a huge departure from the original design. I am actually cautiously looking forward to this now.

I didn’t even notice the coachman. I’ll have to take another look. I’m okay with it too as in I’m still going to watch the movie but I’d be lying if didn’t say it was kind of jarring
