Fascinating insight, and I don't disagree with you at all.

But it always saddens me to see people at Disneyland on these multi-gazillion dollar attractions sitting there staring at their phones. I just think "Why did you even bother getting out of bed this morning?"
like can you JUST enjoy it, PLEASSSSEEEEEEE

also, phones on HM and Pirates are just especially annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disney forces guests to be on their phones for mobile ordering, Genie+, searching for wait times, etc. They have a part to play in this.

I have no clue why someone could be looking at their phone. Could be to pass time, could be looking for updates regarding a family emergency. It’s none of my business and folks looking at their phones don’t hinder my own experience.

If people want to waste their money by looking at a phone while on attractions, I agree, it's their problem....but if they are texting on brightly lit screens or taking photos in the dark sections of Pirates or in the stretching room of HM then that does hinder my own experience.

Well when visiting the Parks for the 100th time that year it makes sense why someone would be on their phone, experience isn't new any more and just mundane.

I was once in line for HM when it broke down and we had to wait an indefinite amount of time for it to come back up. There was a man in front of us in line by himself loudly complaining about it. When we finally got on the ride I looked to the Doombuggy ahead and saw he was on his phone almost the entire ride.

People are just addicted to them and have made it a part of life to just be on them while doing anything. They watch TV while scrolling on their phones. They drive while on them. They scroll while grabbing dinner. We have become used to a certain amount of sensory stimulation and if we aren't on our phones, we feel the absence and the world seems more boring because we aren't getting a new image/post every 2-3 seconds and instead are looking at something more static in nature.
