"Frozen" coming to Disneyland?

The closer you try to come to realism in CGI, especially with human characters, the harder it is to stay out of the uncanny valley.

The problem with Pinocchio is that he is a puppet that walks and talks which is something that isn't real. We know this in the back of our minds. They can do their best to make it look as real as possible when it comes to the textures and lighting, but no matter what face you put in the character it will always seem uncanny because we know it's not real. I kinda wonder how long they played around with it to try and find that balance of looking real but not entering the uncanny valley. I don't know if there was anything they really could have done.
I don't think 2022 Pinocchio is a case of the Uncanny Valley - that he doesn't look appealing just seems like a result of poor character design. It's not like they were aiming for reality and missed:

Haha I hear you. I took a nice break the last few years with all the garbage movies coming out but then Disney Movie Club sends you the free 5 movies offer if you buy 3 movies at full price over 2 years and reel you right back in.
It seems like the WDW dining plan in that you *could* get value from it if you play your cards right, but most likely you're out money for no good reason.

The fact that I already own most of the Disney movies I care about doesn't help.

If I could guarantee that the featured monthly products would be things like Howard, Imagineering Story, etc. I'd sign up in a heartbeat, but with my luck it'd just be "Snow Buddies First Valentine" or some crap like that.

Oh ya that goes without saying. There’s no good reason I need Turning Red or Luca on Blu-ray especially in the era of Disney +. I already own all the classics + every full length Disney animated feature film that is canon. Some twice over since I bought all the Diamond editions that came without digital copies first. The DMC offers are just a cost effective way to satisfy my completionism. 95% of the blu rays just sit in the closet.

I find it terrifying and disturbing, but the Adventures of Pinocchio has, so far, done the best job of bringing a walking, talking puppet to life without it looking too fake, but still looks like a puppet, if that makes sense.

I’m wondering if this live action will inspire Disney to update Pinocchio in Fantasyland. It needs one.
I forgot that existed, whyyyy you gotta do this to meeeeeeeeee

I just noticed the new Pinocchio has Monstro looking like a humpback whale and not a Monstro type whale (whose name I can't type on here lol). Humpback whales don't have teeth! It makes no sense!

When Disney first announced their Live Action Pinocchio I desperately hoped they would at least *partially* take this sort of approach with Pinocchio himself. He is a Puppet, after all. Perfect for, you know, Puppetry.

Of course, I knew better than to actually expect that. But a guy can dream.

For all the quirks of The Adventures of Pinocchio, there was something great about what they did with the Puppetry. But yes, there is definitely some nightmare fuel in that movie.

I would be up to see Pinocchio's Daring Journey recieve the Snow White's Enchanted Wish treatment. I personally love the ride as it is, but that's mainly just an extension of my love for Disney's Pinocchio and the fact that I grew up visiting WDW where there was no Pinocchio ride. For sure there is room for improvement with the PDJ and now seems about as good a time as any to go for it. Though I'm sure they'll wait to see how the remake does before getting serious about putting any money that way.

Same, I was hoping for an actual puppet look, but I knew they wouldn’t do it.

I honestly like Pinocchio the way it is now, too. But now that the other dark rides have gotten upgrades, except Toad, Pinocchio stands out, and not necessarily in a good way.

I honestly think with a few lighting adjustments, Pinocchio would be the perfect attraction

I think I would say that it's definitely better than a lot of people give it credit for. People like to talk like it's a slog, but it has a good amount going for it. I think it could shine like a new penny with a bit of elbow grease. I agree with you that some refreshed lighting could make a big difference in the ride.

I'm not the biggest fan of Projection Mapping, but if used tastefully I can see how that also could pump up a handful of scenes in the ride. Pleasure Island seems like an obvious choice. Maybe some projection and fiber optics creating the Blue Fairy's radiating magic inside the giant Bird Cage to make our "escape" more magical than just a door opening and a sound effect:

Monstro could maybe benefit from projection, too - though I feel like that scene could maybe use a bigger rethink. It seems positioned to be the climactic scare of the ride, but it doesn't live up to Monstro's . . . monstrousness. The fact that Monstro already has a bigger moment in Storybook Land probably played a part in this as well. It seems silly to have two rides in Fantasyland where you get swallowed by Monstro, so I get why they didn't try to do that, but if they're just going to give us a lesser Monstro scene in the dark ride then maybe it'd be better to just try something else entirely.

I like Lampwick's transformation scene, but aside from the Hologram effect in his mirror that many seem to miss it's very nearly the same gag as the Queen's transformation in Snow White, which I think it maybe compares unfavorably to. I bet there's a way to make a bigger impact with that moment that also differentiates it from the Queen scene.

The Blue Fairy at the end is already the best effect in the ride - litter the scene with even more Fiber Optics and some projection to bring in that radiating magic again and the scene could be better than ever. Maybe do something where her magic sets off all the clocks and mechanical objects in the cottage as we ride by them.

It also seems odd how little "When You Wish Upon A Star" factors into the ride - you'd think a big, choral version of that would be playing as you make your way out of the ride. We only hear a brief instrumental before heading into Geppetto's cottage. The celebratory song that plays in the final scene is more upbeat and makes some sense, but it seems like this ride should make a more prominent home for the de facto Disney Anthem. Maybe restage Jiminy with his Badge at the final window in the cottage, looking out at the Wishing Star, with him hitting the high notes as we're sent into the Unload.

And please, while you're at it, make that final Pinocchio figure on the bed a Real Boy instead of a Puppet! It seems like such a silly thing to have done in the first place.

Love the beginning and end but Pleasure Island to Monstro is a slog for me
