Then that bus needed to be serviced and not in operation. Simple. And yes, I have been in an operating room. No operating room on the planet is that cold. I understand you (and others) may think I was exaggerating the temperature inside the bus, but rest assured, I was not. It was damn cold in there. I am a naturally hot person who even sleeps with a fan directly on me. That bus was way too cold for anyone to be even slightly comfortable. Btw, wth is the point in an AC system that only has an on/off selection?? I have never seen anything like that on any bus, school or city. So, is that a Disney thing? They actually redesign the control panel for the AC to prevent dialing it down?

The temperature control is behind the intake in the back of the bus and only accessible by the mechanics. Next time you ride with me, I'll be more than happy to ride to your resort without the air running. Once you're sweltering, you'll be begging to have it turned back on. Either way, I have the only window that opens.

Disney bus driver here! We do not control the A/C temperature. All we can do it on and off. The buses are kept cold to keep germs down. If you've ever been in an operating room, it was kept cold for the same reason. And if we turn it off, the bus get very warm and humid very quick. Once it gets humid inside, the steering wheel get slippery and the windshield fogs up.
You may be a Disney Driver, but I've experienced the temperatures of each bus so disparate and different I just cant believe the "we have no control" excuse. If you do not.. then who does? :/

I mean, in my 3 trips I've been there.. The buses vary from ridiculous cold (with heavy condensation and the AC unit running at top power) to cold. Not all buses are freezing cold as @G00fyDad mentioned.
For example:
As far I remember... Back in 2013 (september) on my first trip to WDW. Id say 70% were extremely cold with heavy condensation, all these units had the noise of the AC very high.
This year (january 2016) there were 20% (around 5 out of 40 buses we took approximately) that had the temps too cold with the AC to full power (noise and all).. 10% had the A/C off and the rest were cold but not freezing(no heavy AC noise).

haha oh wow!
I guess they were really right about customer service in WDW going downhill.

Again, I pose the same question... Does Disney actually redesign the control panel to prevent dialing down the AC? These look like normal city buses and normal city buses have the ability to dial up/down the temperature inside the bus. And no. I would rather walk back to my resort than take a Disney bus anywhere again. Aside from the cold it just takes so freaking long for the bus to arrive, load (if you are lucky enough to even get on that next load), and then get to your destination. We went with friends one year and they took Disney transportation everywhere while we rode in the rental car (too many people for one car and they refused to rent one). We CONSISTENTLY got back to the resort before them by a good amount of time. I am talking about having enough time to get to the room, relax for a few minutes, get changed into swimwear, and get to the pool for a while before they arrived. No thanks. I will not ride your bus. I will stay in my climate controlled car/SUV rental. Besides the time factor, if Disney is going to actively remove your ability to dial down the meat locker then I am glad we rent a vehicle.

After re-reading my last post and then reading the thread title I suddenly realized how WAY off topic this has gotten. I apologize to everyone. :D

As for the covered area at Flame Tree I do think it will be a nice addition to keep the rain off our heads during meals, but will this follow suit at other outside venues in AK, and maybe other parks? I love eating at Casey's Corner, but sitting in the sun is just too much sometimes. Yes, I know they have umbrellas. Try getting one that covers everyone at the table at the same time.

Last time I checked, I am the one who sits behind the steering wheel for 10 hours a day, so I still do not understand how you can tell me how my vehicle operates. I do not come to your office and tell you how your computer or copier should operate.

The 1989 RTS had a toggle switch (On/Off) as does the current fleet of NovaBus that we have (2000-2010). Gillig has a selector dial with A/C, Vent, and Heat as only options. These are city buses, not a Cadillac with multi zone climate control. Please rent a car. Its easier to avoid your Dodge Caravan than listen to you complain for the whole 20-30 minutes you're on board

Pal, if I was complaining to you on your bus, you'd know it. ;) And I am not necessarily saying you're lying. I am saying that it is astounding that you're telling me that Disney buses have only TWO temperatures.

This...

I have been on other Disney buses that have not been nearly as cold as the bus in question.
Now.... BACK on topic......

Not your "pal." And Flame Tree is delicious. I eat there once a week. Wanna debate that?!?

No!!!! I don't!!!!!!! (Why are you yelling pal?) o_O

Like you said, if I were yelling, YOU WOULD KNOW ABOUT IT. Don't ask me things have been built they they've been built for the last 25 years. Ask Iger. He's the one slashing and cutting at WDW and DL (thanks Shanghai). Ask Gillig and Nova/Prevost. They build the buses. I'm just a dumb retired fireman (fire trucks have the same climate controls), and everyone thinks that because you work at WDW, you couldn't get a job anywhere else. You know who we are, the lower class of the country that is here to be abused by the people who refuse to fold their stroller because they brought everything they own with them, or the ones that leave their trash everywhere. Have a little courtesy. You asked, I answered, then you doubted. I've been there long enough to know how to do my job and we don't need a behind the yellow line, backseat driver to help

You're on vacation. Lighten up a little. I'm done. Have a magical day. I'm starting to squint a little.

Pal, I've been squinting the entire time. When you add "?!?!?!" behind your words, you're yelling. Now you're done.

No problem pal. Hope to see you soon! You have a rootin tootin Disney Day yourself. :D
FireChief was only trying to answer your question about why you found the bus so cold, from his own personal experience as a driver. No reason to treat the guy like that, don't think he meant any harm.

Personally I appreciate CM's, both current and former, who come here to share firsthand information. As guests we often think we know best, but we also need to keep in mind that most Disney CM's are just "normal" folks like ourselves. It's executives way higher on the pay scale who make the decisions we don't understand.

And I appreciate any information from CM's as well. I just don't appreciate how he came at me. He misunderstood what I was trying to say and jumped the gun. If his bus doesn't have AC control then it doesn't have climate controls. Not arguing that fact. My entire point was I didn't understand why Disney would take that control away from the Disney bus drivers when every single other city bus that I've ever seen in my life has got a dial to control the temperature. A simple comment like "Disney must have taken the controls off the dash or purchased buses that didn't have that control" would have sufficed. Not the snarky little answers I was getting.

Guess I didn't see anything "snarky" about his responses, I actually saw it the opposite way in your posts. I'm pretty sure he can't tell you if or why those controls were removed, he was simply telling you the options he had available to him.

I certainly understand your displeasure with the cold bus, but if it's that important to you, I'm not sure anything he said was going to be acceptable to you. Hard to believe we are resorting to complaining about cold buses in hot Florida!

I'm not sure everybody's on the same page here so I'm just going to let this drop. No one's complaining about a cold bus in Florida. Part of the original comment that I made on this thread was about the frigid meat locker of a bus in the Florida heat. That's a difference. A big one. When the temperature, even in the heat of Florida, is so cold that people are praying for the bus ride to be over with as fast as possible it's too cold. And it wasn't just me that felt it was like that. There were two women who looked like they were in their eighties freezing to death on that bus. Again I think the points being made are being missed by everybody including myself maybe.

I wasn't trying to start trouble, just felt bad for the bus driver who was trying to explain. I agree temperatures are far from consistent in WDW.

AK is brutally hot, even in the shade. I know Flame Tree is highly rated, but we haven't eaten there in years in favor of A/C. Hopefully this is responding to that need and not simply another place to increase revenue.

I wasnt attacking your position as a driver and neither was @G00fyDad.
We are just baffled that we see only "meat locker" temps or full floridian hot summer glory ( that can be dangerous in both cases for some people).
Yet you took it personal and went almost to tell us to GTFO in the "disney way". WOW! chill! (yeah I went there to do a pun).

I'll tell you why they keep the buses so cold- OLD LADIES. Old ladies love freezing temperatures in the summer, no doubt because it prevents decay. If the temps are set one degree above sub-arctic, they'll raise a stink, because they have both the time and desire to do so. One summer, I worked a telemarketing job and most of my coworkers were old ladies, and that place was FRIGID. It's 90 degrees outside, and I'm bringing a heavy jacket to work because it's that cold inside.
