First Look of Ariel's Undersea Adventure

Theming and ride technology aside, I'm really not interested in Carsland. :/ Myself and a lot of other movie enthusiasts agree that it's Pixar's weakest movie. I'd like to see a different Disney movie get an entire land.

I feel the same way. While I realize that Cars Land will be a big treat for the kids, I'd rather have something like Wonderland.

It didn't come back. Disney said it was just a "test" which was a lie since they built the area as a Lighting bldg, spent the money on an animatronic and mentioned it on their parks blog and stuff. If it was just a test, they would not have gone through all the trouble. I believe his shut down was due to a lawsuit the Luxo company had with Disney over use of the lamp in certain ways.

Awww, what a shame. The lamp was pretty neat. :(

Yes, that's really amazing. I have a friend who's studying light and indoor environments, and he's told me that eventually lamps and other forms of "modular" lighting will become obsolete, because the very walls and ceilings will be able to project all the light people will need. There will be special wallpapers that will react to touch and light up and/or create environments - imagine turning your bedroom into a forest glade, or make snowflakes appear to fall in your living room. He says it's not long from happening. I can't wait!

Sounds awesome, but very expensive. :sohappy:

We'll probably be waiting a while for that actually, because it sounds exactly like the home exhibit that was featured prominently at the.... wait for it...

1962 Seattle World's Fair.

The Seattle fair's Home of Tomorrow, that boldly predicted what the average American home would be like in the far off year of 2000, featured plastic walls and ceilings that emitted all the light a home needed, while simultaneously clouding over to provide privacy or becoming clear to afford expansive views.

It was far-fetched then, and far-fetched now. It's a cool concept, just like it was back in '62, but not really coming to a suburb near you anytime soon. I think people will still want a lamp by their reading chair, even if they want to go to the expense of retrofitting an entire home with lighted walls for some bizarre reason.

With regards to the Little Mermaid name, it's going to be referred to as "Little Mermaid" by many people around the parks anyways instead of Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid.

As for the exclusivity in Carsland, I highly doubt it would extend to the ride systems, but it may just workout like that stateside. Radiator Springs Racers uses a ride system (Test Track, Journey to the Center of the Earth) that is already in use. Tow Maters Junkyard Jamboree uses a ride system that was considered for Pixie Hollow - I assume that wasn't canceled due to pressure from Anaheim, but rather pressure from Tom Staggs' children.

Oh, gosh yes. No one is going to call the Mermaid ride by it's full name. No one.

It's funny how WDI is in the habit of creating this really long attraction titles. I think the longest title currently is Monsters Inc.; Mike and Sulley To The Rescue! Of course people just say "Let's go on Monsters Inc.", just like they'll say "Let's go on Little Mermaid."

And yes, Radiator Springs Racers is the third generation of the Test Track ride system. But it will be the first of its kind to have a side-by-side track system where vehicles race each other through the ride.

I was staring at the Cars Land rockwork while in DCA last week, it's really coming along quickly, and pictures don't begin to do it justice just how massive and impressive it is. It's going to rewrite the book on Disney theme park E Tickets, I have a hunch.

And I loved your line about Tom's kids guiding theme park development! There's really an element of truth there, whether TDO and Imagineering can admit it publicly. Funny, because you never heard Rasulo or Pressler mention their kids one bit. I got the feeling the Rasulo and Pressler families simply weren't theme park type people. But I have seen Staggs with his kids at Disneyland on a Saturday several times now, almost as many times as I've seen Lasseter hanging out at Disneyland. With the exception of the pretty tour hostess leading the way and backdooring them onto the rides of their choice, the Staggs family looked like any other happy family at Disneyland. That's a good thing, IMO.

Definitely! The northeastern part of the FLE could easily have been a Wonderland area instead of Circusland, and incorporated the teacups. I'd love a Neverland, too; I adore Adventure Isle in Disneyland Paris.

Now that I think about it, Neverland would have been a fabulous idea for the FLE, in the place of Circusland. There could have been a mermaid lagoon area or water feature next to Ariel's Undersea Adventure and a small Pixie Hollow for the girls, and Captain Hook and Lost Boy stuff for the boys. Barnstormer could be rethemed as some sort of Peter Pan and the Lost Boys coaster.

The latest official WDI pictures of the Little Mermaid ride are in!

The newest version of the Blue Sky Cellar Preview Center opened today at DCA for a media event tied into the Memories projection show debuting at It's A Small World. This latest Cellar exhibit heavily features Little Mermaid. You'll need to ignore the pictures and displays of the exterior of the DCA Mermaid building, as it's very different from the WDW Fantasyland version. But the interiors of these two rides are nearly identical, and there is lots of new glimpses of inside the ride and some of the features to be found when it opens at DCA in four months.

Interesting note: The Imagineers stated to the media today that the Little Mermaid ride at DCA should last about six and a half minutes! We had a big discussion about this last year here, and I remember being convinced it would be a 6+ minute long ride. :sohappy:

Here's the link to the first fan website update with lots of pictures and video from the new Mermaid exhibit... http://www./2011/01/disney-debuts-m...new-details-for-the-little-mermaid-dark-ride/

I am really looking forward to this attraction. This is one of my favorite Disney animated films so to see it come to life will be great. I have not done the stage show at the studio in years.

Absolutely astonishing. To see the amazing quality of this ride is almost heartbreaking, because if Disney were to make more rides today, they would rule. This looks beautiful! They know what to do, and how to do it today. They've polished their craft. Everything is just spot on! :D

Agree with you here...everything looks pretty amazing. Ride will be very cool when its all done. The recent DCA expansion and the addition of Cars Land in 2012 really makes me want to go back to Disneyland in the near future.

While the new ride looks amazing...where is my beloved Ursula? I've seen from concept art that she will be making an appearance but I was hoping to see a sneak peek in the video! Perhaps there will be an Ursula meet and greet outside of the ride, like in a grotto type setting so she wouldn't have to move. Pipe dream...I know. But Ursula is my favorite villain and i'm so excited to finally see her in another attraction. The giant Ursula in VOtLM is the best!!

Doesn't Ursula get her own room in the attraction with a huge animatronic of her?

The Blue Sky Cellar has a new model of Ursula, who will be 8 feet tall and 12 feet wide in the ride.

awesome! thanks so much for the model pics. I'm sure Disney will make sure the clam mobiles keep their distance from the giant Ursula on the ride itself, don't want to scare the kiddies (ala Snow White) but I'm still excited to see her getting some attention!

I feel this has been posted but I can't find it - how many total vehicles will be in this attraction? I assume it will be the same in DCA and Florida?

I found this part interesting: "Outside, to monitor progress of Carsland, a new overlook has been added, allowing guests to watch as the addition to the park is being built.". They get an overlook, we get more trees to obstruct the view?

If the 6.5 minutes is correct as well as the 660 feet, than I think that works out to a little over 1 mph for the speed of the ride.

Does anyone know how this compares to SSE, HM or Nemo? I tried looking it up for point of reference but am failing miserably.

I am shocked if the ride length times are true and it makes me think this will have elements we have not seen in a traditional dark ride before. I also think judging by everything I have seen this is definitely an E Ticket.
