First look at the 3D Model

What is the ride for kids? They're re-theming existing areas (Flight of the Hippogriff and Dragon Challenge), I don't consider these new attractions, but rather refurbishments. Where Harry Potter really needs to deliver is the interactivity for kids. The wand shop, and unique merchandise need to draw families because right now Islands of Adventure fails to meet that demographic.
I count Hippo as the kid's ride, Dragon as the teen/adult ride and Journey for the whole family (mostly).
The interactivity throughout the whole area is also a big thing, making Hogsmeade almost an attraction in itself.

Wait, so they are thinking of doing a Pixar Place expansion, Lee?
Ummm...yeah....been discussed around here quite a bit.

If I may, I would definitely call Hippogriff a brand new experience, at least personally. Along with the actual ride(which granted, hasn't changed) you will also take part in a care of magical creatures class with a Hippogriff AA.

No matter how you look at it, it's still physically just a refurb. Mentally it may feel like a new attraction though.

I expect The Forbidden Journey to be more intense than Spiderman so it would probably bump it out of the "for the whole family" category. Am I mistaken?

Well, FLE is targetted at kids and families and WWoHP is targetted at young adults/adults.... so your comment isn't saying much

Really? WWoHP will have an *enormous* target audience. Way more than just young adults or adults. All those little kids waiting in line for the movies or when the books were released... all in costume... this place is going to drive them nuts.

Universal is going to plaster the east coast with ads for this thing, and people who never go to theme parks or haven't even heard of IOA are going to take notice. And this, I think, is the dirty little secret of the whole endeavor - IOA is a pretty nice park. Universal botched its roll-out a decade ago, and it's suffered ever since. But Potter is going to make people plan a trip, and I think they'll like what they see. People aren't going to ditch Disney, but they might start carving out a day from their vacation to reserve for IOA.

I'm very excited about TLM, as I love traditional omnimover dark rides. They are something that everyone can enjoy, and this one looks to be very classy. I don't need thrilling rides to be happy. Outside of that, though, this expansion is almost exclusively for very young children - mostly female.

I find it hard to gripe, because it's much better than what we have now in the area, but it just doesn't feel like they're aiming for the fences. The blank slate of this expansion offers them a rare opportunity to do something BIG, and while there's a lot to like about the placemaking of this expansion, the individual attractions don't feel ambitious.

You made my point.:D
Look at it in terms of overall guest satisfaction.
FLE will thrill little girls who like princesses, and will have a nice new dark ride and restaurant for most demographics.
WW will appeal to all ages. A ride for the kids, a ride for teens and adults, and a family ride.
I think Disney made a mistake putting all their eggs into the little girl basket.

I guess that's somewhat true- but Islands still has a height limit on 90% of the rides including all those you listed (I'm guessing HPtFJ will too). The park is def not for the whole family and it isn't meant to be. It's for people 48 inches or taller lol

IMO- that's IoA's biggest problem

I'd rather have rides too, but everyone who's complaining is forgetting that Toontown is basically just Meet-and-Greets. At least the new façades are better than tents!
A very good point. It's like the break even when you think about in that respect. They don't expand in that area, but they do add TLM. That's what's good about this. Better M/G's and a new area and a new ride.

Should there be more? And something more differentiated? Of course.

Universal did a horrid job of marketing Islands of Adventure when it first opened. They need to promote Harry Potter as much as possible, and what I'm hoping is that the entire land is an experience, and not just the new attraction/re-themed attractions.

I want for this to succeed - I want it to be amazing.

Now, the Harry Potter series began as a children's novel but it has evolved into much more. The movies are now PG13, and all 8 of the movies (and 7 of the books) certainly have dark imagery that can be frightening. It's a very popular franchise, but I don't think the franchise is a slam dunk family friendly franchise.

So basically they're resurrecting the Triceratop Encounter, with a different AA... (Heck, I wonder just how much they'd really have to do to alter the TriTop AA into a Hippogriff...) :lookaroun

My opinion of WWoHP-:hurl::snore:

The books are great, movies are not as good. Unfortunately, this sounds like it's based on the movies.

However,to each his own.

See, that's the way I look at it! We're getting a new ride and they're replacing the tents (which we ALL complained about) with some very nicely themed M&Gs that are going to be pretty interactive as well (by the sounds of it)! Dumbo is getting a nice overhaul. And we're getting a new restaurant!

Can it compete with HP... I have no idea!?! But I'm happy... but then again I fit the demographic that Disney is going after here. My son is 6 and my daughter is 3. Even my son at 6 still enjoyed meeting the princesses (which is why it bothers me when everyone generalizes about boys not liking this... there's nothing wrong with a boy meeting a princess and actually enjoying it)!

Not flaming your opinion, but have you seen pics of what they're building? I don't know how any admirer of Disney theme parks can't be stoked about it.

I agree. I'm looking forward to Fantasyland as well but Harry Potter looks like it is on a little bit of a different level. As I have said before, I hope that IOA is successful because Disney needs the competition. Hopefully if attendance drops at a DHS or DAK then they will expand those underdeveloped parks.

^ Even I wouldn't call DHS underdeveloped, but it needs more variety, I agree. And when I say variety, I mean things that really fit the theme. Not just things that they throw in certain places and then have to create a elaborate back story. :lookaroun

Exactly. Quality storytelling is a good thing- anywhere.

When I'm saying underdeveloped I'm not talking about theming, the theming is great but they need more C-D tickets such as dark rides. Thrill ride fans like myself love the park but if you don't do ToT and RnRC then the only rides you have are GMR and TSMM. I'm not really calling the BLT a ride it is more of an "attraction." But yes it needs more variety like MK and EPCOT have.
