Fire breaks out Enchanted Tiki Room

According to legend, they have a farm on property where they grow back-up AA's for every figure on property. They should have them replaced in no time.

There's a 15 million dollar Yeti that begs to differ.

Well, they were only able to plant his back-up when they built the ride and original AA - he's still growing.

As soon as the back-up Yeti has reached maturity, they'll transplant it to EE. Give them another....oh....2-3 years.

The idea of putting Kevin in there is interesting but she's native to the South American rainforests (right? Definitely not Hawaii/Polynesia?). I hate to say it but the only Disney movie that takes place in a Polynesian atmosphere is Lilo and Stitch.

Not to start an entire "Kill the Stitch" discussion, but in the Tiki Room would be a logical fit. Throw in some Elvis and it may not be what it originally was but it's certainly better than 'New Management". Have Stitch and Lilo do meet and greets outside also.

I know Stitch isn't popular. I'm not his biggest fan either. But TDO seems insistant on shoving movie characters into rides, this would at least fit and make sense.

I think "Up" (South America) fits better than "Aladdin" (Agrabah).

I mean no disrespect to you. I just think Disney has a bit of confusion going on when it comes to Adventureland. But I don't think that it needs to have a geographical theme... I mean, it's ADVENTUREland so it should just focus on that. I feel "Up" is the perfect movie to embody adventure, but I'm still not sure about basing more things off of movies. I'd like to see something original but I highly doubt that will happen.

The flying carpets ride was just not needed, though isn't going to be rethemed and moved to fle?

You are correct on the first, but incorrect on the second.

A new spinner will be made for the 2nd Dumbo and unfortunately, I don't believe the Magic Carpets will be leaving anytime soon. *crosses fingers and hopes he's wrong*

There is a great article over at progress city on all the fallout and public distaste for the 'Under New Management' show surrounding the fire, it is interresting to note that the cries are not just from the fanboys, but the general public as well. Hopefully this will give Disney the opportunity to do the right thing and bring about a healthy new change.

Thought I'd call more attention to this post with a direct link to the article:

Everyone should check that out. Veeerrrrrry interesting rumors and speculation here. Let's keep our fingers crossed...

Interesting article. If any work to hopefully bring tiki back to walt's standards will require a better entrance. I think the best way to do so and also get rid of theming that clashed will the area is to get rid of magic carpets and rework that area into a tiki plaza that works to bring guests into the tiki room.

They can keep the water, and make the plaza into a tiki bar themed drink stop.

Thank Eisner! According to cast he walked through Adventureland and wanted to know why there was so much open space and wallah, a spinner was born.

Well if you consider

The above photo is a rare example of a 'wienie' with a HUGE middle finger extended in front of it.

Opinion:

You almost have to believe that among the (what has to be) millions of folks who've see the attraction, there is a small percentage who are huge fans.

Of those folks, some are at least somewhat technically oriented.

Of those, some even have access to production facilities/skills for production of relatively similar technologies.

With sufficient references + original audio.... the whole thing could be done reasonably fast, and reasonably inexpensively even by this small segment. Certainly in time for the 40th. Imagine what could be done with the original drawings + programming, and actually being able to see the attraction.

Bad Misquote:

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for management (and imagineers) to do nothing (or add a strobe light).

Ya Know...I was just thinking back to what someone in the "IN" said to me a long time ago...that changing the attraction back would in essence have TDO to "lose face" by admitting the change was a bad idea... this fire (which incredibly seems to have only singled out the UNM for the most part..things that make you go Hmmm???!?!?!?!) gives TDO a Golden opportunity to "give the fans what they want" while under their breathe saying it was only done because we really had no other choice....hence both groups have a WIN-WIN.

I believe that within the community (and I suspect from what I have gleamed that within Disney itself!) that there is a genuine desire to bring essentially the show in Anaheim over here ...

God Bless them all if they somehow tie this into the 40th celebration... "To Honor Walt Disney's Pioneering of animatronics we bring to The Magic Kingdom 'Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room'...Once again 'Under Walt's Management'! Walt Disney World: Where the memories of our past live in harmony with the memories we make today! Let the Memories Begin!"

I'll even hold the sign, for one month....FREE of charge!

They sort of caved on Imagination. They changed it. People complained that there was no more figment, and they kind of brought him back. They really had egg on their face with that one.

However, they applied the New Management overlay to boost interest in the attraction, since it was declining. They smartly avoided demolishing one of Walt's original projects, but "plussed" it to attract today's multi-sensory-requiring youth.

But it's stale already, and made the rest of us traditionalists mad. But, we're a small demographic and if they only did things that made us happy, we'd be guaranteed repeat customers, but we wouldn't keep the place in business.

They have to appeal to the masses, and their gaudy New Mgmt overlay was their attempt. I don't know what wait times are like on average days for Tiki, but if they were decent, I don't predict they'll go back to the original just because of the fire. They would have had to have collected enough complaints through surveys and guest relations to consider something like that.

Sometimes the default font is much easier on the eyes.

TDO has a habit of covering up bad ideas with worse ideas. They need to learn a little humility and admit their mistakes.

I believe it's just the die hard fans that would like for the original show to be brought back. The original show never had a line and always had people walking out during it. I personally don't think it would be wise for the original show to return. What ever show does return it should also stick to the current length of the new management show (around 12 minutes).
