EPCOT Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

Recently, I found this video showing better footage of Dreamfinders school of Drama...While it does show the full version of the one where Joe Rhode plays Dreamfinder. It also showcases the other Interactive segment where Dreamfinder comes along with the guests and an interesting Puppet Figment (possible the same one planned for the Dreamfinders series perhaps?)..You can also hear that it was Chuck McCann doing the voice of Dreamfinder for it. But whomever was playing Dreamfinder in the second segment baffles me..

That footage featuring the ‘puppet’ Figment ….

This looks to me to be recycled footage previously shot for that long lost Disney Channel program ‘Dreamfinders’.
Audio may have been overdubbed to make it ‘fit’ better into this presentations purpose, but I would be willing to bet money this is an excerpt from that program.

The ChromaKey effect shown used for the ‘flying’ Figment puppet is the giveaway …as I doubt they would have gone to all of that post production trouble to shoot this and add the effects just for this side attraction at Epcot.
Makes much more sense to just use a short segment from the then ‘new’ tv show.
We know at least one episode was shot, perhaps more.

The set used in that short segment also matches up with similar set scenes that can be seen in that behind the scenes segment we have all likely viewed at some point ( the Disney Channel promotional bit about ‘Dreamfinders’ ).
The later segment, following the suspected tv show bit, you can see is shot differently and features a different performer…which explains the change.

I strongly suspect that earlier bit with ‘puppet’ Figment is indeed a lost clip from the proposed tv show.

Hmmm….quite an interesting couple of short segments there.

A very good find.
Thank you for sharing this!

Hate to correct you here, but that actually isn’t the case. If we’re to go off a production slide I have that features a photo of that puppet Figment being filmed against the green screen, the newer Dreamfinder’s School of Drama segment was produced in ‘91, which checks out as that would’ve been when ImageWorks received the budget for some updates/additions like the Mirage activity (where the additional traditional animation of Figment, outside of the science scene, was made for), the Makin’ Faces kiosk, Figment’s Coloring Book replacing the Bubble Music activity, and the Dreamfinder’s Blimp Race activity replacing (I think) the Lumia ball or whatever that was.
The Figment puppet for the earlier 80s Dreamfinders show was larger, cable controlled & rubber (think like the puppets used for the Film Finale scene of the ride). The one in the 90s Dreamfinders School of Drama segment there is more a classic Henson style puppet.
