Wow, I am deeply saddened by how much wasted space there is behind the awful Pooh's Playful Spot. I can't believe that the Disney Corporation would rather have something as useless as Pooh's Playful Spot rather than a new attraction similar to the Roger Rabbit Car-Toon Spin, it would give the Magic Kingdom a decent transition from Fantasyland into Toontown, plus it wouldn't be that bad of a transition from that into the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway as well. But hey, what do I know. I just feel like the Magic Kingdom is getting a cold shoulder lately with half ______ rides and attractions. Hopefully we get something decent in time for the 40th Anniversary in 4 years. :)
Not everyone thinks it's a waste of space. Have you watched kids playing there and having a blast? MK needs attractions for all segments of their guests and the little toddlers are a big segment. The parents of those toddlers also love it since it's a great diversion for their kids to burn some energy and for the parents to get a little break.

There is plenty of room for expansion when the time is right for them to add another attraction.

:sohappy:

That is something that Disney is forgetting. The teenage/young adult segment has been forgotten for about a decade in the Magic Kingdom.

I agree....having a 3 year old and a 1 year old, I find the small playgrounds a great area for my kids to burn off steam. My children love to ride the attractions, but for the most part they are trapped in their strollers until we get to the ride. The playground gives them the freedom to stretch their legs. It also give my husband and I a nice break from all the walking and pushing, or give us a chance to ride a adult attraction, while the grandparents watch the kids.
I also find it funny that there are some attractions that have basically been "walk ons", but I have never gone to a playground that wasn't packed with kids....obviously, there is a market for it!

That's not true...there are plenty of attractions that are for teens/young adults that toddlers can't go on. Or are you saying there hasn't been anything new for teens/young adults to go on?

Every attraction in the Magic Kingdom (with the exception of the playgrounds) can be enjoyed by a teen or young adult....all the toddlers got was a new little playground...I'm sure that the next attraction built will be more for your age group and will probably cost a lot more.

Sort of. There hasn't been anything new that appeals mainly to young adults, in the same way Magic Carpets and Pooh's Playful Spot appeals to young children, since 1995. Sure Philharmagic and Buzz appeal to most people, but that's not what I'm talking about here. If Disney wants to single out certain attractions for specific age groups only, that's fine. Just don't leave out certain age groups

Well if you want to be THAT specific about age groups then what have they added lately for the geriatric crowd? The middle aged crowd? The recently divorced 25-35 age bracket?:)

Are you on drugs?
You do realize that demolition, land reclaimation, and preparing a site for future construction costs money, don't you? The project to clear 20K, fill the lagoon, create a retention pond to satisfy EPA wetlands conservation laws, and prep the site for something (actually multiple somethings) cost as much as building a new e-ticket would have. Pooh's Playful spot was a late addition to that project and an *increase* in the budget was required to make it a reality.
The space that was created (not including the small thumbprint of PPS) is big enough for two attractions, one about the size of Haunted Mansion, and one on the order of a dark ride. Coincidentally, the space is also just about the same size as the sense of entitlement of the average AP.

The current location of PPS and the landscaping around it suggest the land for two new attractions is already predetermined. Possibly a dark ride near the Grotto and the other either in Fantasyland or Toon Town. Those would conveniently fit into place, and the one by the grotto appears to have potential size relative to Snow White.

It looks as though there is enough room to keep pooh's playful spot and still add a new attraction, which would make everyone happy.

Earlier in this thread someone mentioned that two walls from he original ride bldg were left up. Any reason why? Seems odd to me. :veryconfu

Just in case they needed to be recycled :lookaroun

They'd probably make very good walls for another dark ride.

I am fairly certain they were left up to act as some type of retaining wall. But you can clearly see them in the images posted in this thread.

how do i get this microsoft live thing? i went to www.microsoftlive.com and couldn't figure out how to get to these aerial maps...

local.live.com is Microsoft Live. For a direct link to the old 20k site, go here.
