Express Monorail Problems..

Not sure if ANY of this info has been posted, but with all the recent lightning storms we've had in Central Florida, the express beam was struck by lightning a few nights ago..

The lightning struck the stantion plate on the beam where it 'switches' with the epcot line.. The concrete on the beam adjacent to the plate was damaged.. So severely that disney had to do a 'quick' repair on it will fast-drying concrete patch..

Well, after a couple of days, the patch has started to crack and fall away, revealing the original (a little worse than original) damage...

Therefore, All trains rolling into and out of the TTC must maintain the lowest speed possible to prevent vibration on the beam in that area until it can be permanently repaired..

In other words.. The trains are going REALLY slow near the TTC right now.. painfully slow.... takes about 5 minutes to get to the contemporary from the TTC now.. The trains are allowed to resume normal traveling speed once the trailing car reaches a 3 pylon distance from the damaged area..

Hopefully they can get this fixed soon.... It really is hurting the systems efficiency.. May have to go into shuttle mode for a few days while a 'real fix' it put into action

why can't they run express trains the other way (through the Polynesian and Grand Floridian) and just not use the track from TTC to MK?

Lightning also struck the Seven Seas lagoon, which is why the ferry boats must proceed very slowly over the patch of water that added that same weekend.

:ROFLOL:

EDIT: Never mind...Got it.

Sounds pretty serious, though. Hope they get it fixed...Going into shuttle mode would take longer, right?

I would say so since you would only be able to run 1 monorail back and forth between TTC and MK via the GF & Poly route, instead of having 2-3 monorails staggered going in a circle.

I believe Disneyland was able to run two trains in shuttle mode, and it might even be possible to do more than that on the Express Line.

The way Disneyland did it is that one monorail would be at the station and there would be another behind it. The first monorail would fill up and then head of to the other station. At this time the second monorail would pull into the station and fill up with a second set of passengers. All passengers would disembark from the first monorail, but none would board. The first monorail would then head further down the track with no passengers so that the second train could pull into the station. The second train's passengers would disembark and new passengers would be board. The process would simply repeat itself.

Im no monorail expert, but I believe the Disneyland monorails will not fit on the WDW track
Correct. The beams at Disneyland are six inches narrower than those at Walt Disney World.

WDW monorail system has run in shuttle mode before.... When Mark VI monorails were brought online, the express and resort ran in shuttle while they enlarged the holes in the contemporary to accomodate the slightly large train dimensions...

I remember one night while working in Epcot, lightening hit a transformer, knocking out The Seas and the Epcot monorail line...let's just say that was an interesting night.
