Epcot News: Crane behind SE

If the wand is taken down, I would like to see the Earth's continents projected onto the surface using lasers. It would be awsome to see them rotating around SSE every night.

A shed load. The vast majority of the monoliths still lie empty.

wow, that is disappointing. i havent been since they started building them i think.

2 questions.............. when were they constructed? why do you think no one has responded and filled up the spaces left?

Walk around the World - the intention was to circle Seven Seas Lagoon with a path made of these tiles. Disneyland Paris has the same - the Fantasia Gardens (space infront of Disneyland Hotel / Park with fountains) floor is made of these tiles. And the cash registers went wild.....

Hi Martin,

Do you know why they stopped the bricks from going all the way around. My wife and I have one we bought in the mid 90s and wanted to get one for my daughter but they stopped selling them. I would love for them to complete what they started.

From my understanding, a draw-bridge over the Electric Water Pageant canal was cost-prohibitive....also, how many GF guests are going to walk to the MK, when they are the last stop prior to the MK.

I guess that makes sense but you would think that these things would have been thought about prior to starting with the plan of doing it.

I assume because the monoliths are butt-ugly, so for a kick off people find them unnatractive and I guess they do not want to pay to stick a tiny etching of their face on them.

I believe that they give them away now with certain packages.

Disneyland also did this in the esplanade between Disneyland Park and DCA.

SE Wand repairs...

I was wondering if there are any members that dislike the SE wand? I happen to be among those who.. though I am an avid EPCOT fan and passholder, I would like to see the wand Disappear.... Just a thought,

The crane was there all weekend, in the same position as the photo, but was gone on Monday. Unfortunately, the wand remained unscathed....

I noticed the hook on the crane was positioned right over the middle of the Global Neighborhood roof, so I'm wondering if they used it to remove/replace the fiber optic tree inside. If you look over the construction wall as you exit SE, you no longer see the top of the tree, just another, higher wall inside.
The tree was still there last Tuesday (one of the doors was open and you could see inside. It's all still there with no apparent changes). There is a curtain around the tree to keep you from seeing it over the wall.

I was told the crane was there to change lights on the wand (the FAA light on top was out).

Do you mean "repaired".

Or do you mean "fixed"..nudge nudge, as in to have had a small accident and be found on the floor in many small bits :D

I guess the hook was just over the roof to get it out of the way. I was hoping that maybe they were making some progress on Global Neighborhood, or that it was an indication of a new sponsor. Guess not.

On a side note, since the crane was there just to make repairs to the lights on the wand, why on earth did they leave it in the park during the day when they weren't doing any work? It really messed up the view of SE, and they could have rolled it backstage instead of leaving it out there. Bad show, if you ask me.

getting that large of a crane out of that area may be very difficult, the only exit it could use that I can think of is back in the World showcase, trying to manuver a large vechicle like that every night may have been to risky to damageing other items in the park.

Why would you need to physically move it when you have that big ol wand there. They could just poof it away....

Living Seas was open yesterday when I went for the soft opening of the Food and Wine Festival. The only possible damage I saw was near one of the tanks...it was a small area roped off (you could walk right around it). The carpet had a water stain as well as salt. I also saw the crane at SE and wondered why it was there.
I notice that are roped off too we were there the day after Jeanne (Monday)
