EPCOT – the park that lost its optimism

Yea, that's what the MS pavilion was originally going to be. Before the budget cuts. See what happens with the budget cuts? I've seen the concept art, and it was fantastic.

But WOL is honestly a horribly designed building. If they want to build something there, knock down and build up. The roof leaks like a siv in some places.

Yea I agree with you and didnt know that MSP was suppose to be this and they probally need to knock that building down. If they built this and updated Universe of Energy with a modern theme this section of the park would be great. Also these are great ideas but with the cutbacks Disney has already made I wouldnt expect any more major changes anytime soon.

I agree with this I think in the late 90's with some of the original attractions starting to age and the opening of Islands of Adventure Disney kind of painiced and tried to put some thrill rides in to compete ex. Mission space and test track.

I do think that the park is at a crossroad once again and they have an oppurtunity to make a step in the right direction with the wonder of life pavilion. They should start over here and if they wont to stick with that theme, it just needs to be improved with modern medical advancements. Or they could just have a totaly new theme. They have the land and the seas why not do a tribute to smpace travel. I know they a ready have misson space but this would be different. It could be set up as a space station or a future colony on an alien planet. Something like this could work but disney has a annoying trend that everything has to tie in to a movie (Mexico, The Seas). I think this tribute to space travel theme could work.

Nope, sorry it failed. People didn't like it, and that's why it changed. I know people who were there opening day, and they all say they asked their parents, "Can we go to Magic Kingdom?" after about two hours in the park.

Everyone can hope, beg, and wish as much as they want, but EPCOT Center will never come back. The general public found it boring. Plain and simple. And as much as I hate to say it, they were right. I loved it as a kid, but if EPCOT was still around today it would have incredibly low attendance records.

Could some of the attractions do a better job of educating? Yea. Test Track could go more indepth, along with Mission Space. But it's a theme park people. Fun>education when it comes to theme parks. If it was the other way around the Smithsonian would be the world's most popular vacation destination.

Those were immature little kids, right...?

Maybe EPCOT Center was created for a reason.

And if it failed, it would not STILL be here.It's just taken a newer direction.

The easy way out being a Nemo overlay in The Living Seas. What a waste of an amazing aquarium. We used to have a fairly interactive ride/attraction that taught people about the SEAS. Now we have some interactive displays that are self-directed and a ride that is all about a bad baby fish. :lookaroun

I agree that some rides need to be created that tie into the newer movies but they should not be built at Epcot. Those rides should be built at MK, DHS, and AK when there about animals I guess.

It is so awesome to read a thread that actually is starting to cut to the core of the beast! I am hopeful that SSE will be finished in a way that could kickstart a renewal of innovation in both spirit and technology for EPCOT!!!

Are you kidding me? I LOVE EPCOT! When my husband and I go to disney we go to Epcot almost every day we are down there. How awesome is that you can walk from Japan with some sake and some sushi and 20 minutes later you could get some brats and beer in Germany?

and don't get me started on the rides. . . Soarin is awesome, they are doing some great research at the land pavillion. I love Spaceship Earth no mater how many times I go on it, there is just a certain smell to it and each time I still get excited.

I understand that there are some parts that are a little on the lame side, but I think that they have done some great things in this park, and i don't understand why people can't see Epcot the way that I see it or my husband sees it! And if you don't like epcot i dare you to see it with my family and I am sure you will change your mind!

Yep...And you know all the Hoopla with SSE(You saw it!) so this ride could really just be the begining of the future for EPCOT.

It does need a new draw though...The last MAJOR addition( save ToN and ROE) was in 1988...Norway!

But I would like to take it a step further and request that the "cutesy" spin that has been placed on EPCOT in the recent past be removed.

Considering the different messages of each park...just by glancing at the current guidemaps you can't tell MK from EPCOT. That is SAD.
