Environmentally Irresponsible

That's a classic "there's so much wrong, so why fix anything at all" argument. The mailers are low hanging fruit. You fix what you can, when you can, one thing at a time. It's all small things and you can't fix them all at once. And turning away, does nothing to fix the problem. I love Disney World, but I also know they are wasteful and could do better. What's wrong with those that have a problem with it complaining so Disney will know? That is how companies change their practices. When enough of the consumers are upset, they will see that it in their best interest to make change. It may take 30 years (see pepsi and aspartame) and it may not be the exact change you wanted (again see Pepsi and aspartame) but its progress. The kind of small, measured steps that make a difference in the long term. Its not a problem you fix all at once.

So you're the guy that drinks a diet coke with his BigMac and large fries?

No. I'm the guy who wants to get healthy so he cuts McDonalds down to once a week. Then once a month. Then once a year until his lifestyle is healthy. Because going cold turkey inevitably fails and then no change is made. Change in moderation over time is sustainable and long lasting.

Split stay doesn't exist in the hotel industry. your stay at the Contemporary is completely separate from your stay at Coronado Springs - just as your stay at Fairfield Inn is completely separate from your stay at Marriott.
Its not the hotelier's responsibility to recognize, connect, and inform based o customer decisions.
The Fairfield Inn and the Marriott are not touted as part of one integrated destination. Walt Disney World isn't supposed to be a collection of normal hotels in competition with each other.

Like collecting room keys of old, I don't mind that they foist more bands on us. Also, it keeps them from having to mess with any future versioning in the system if they ever make modifications to the units later on.

So, there are quite a few reasons why I can see that they'd do it that way.

Also, there's economies of scale. It's a bit silly that a single band gets shipped to you in a massive box, but the boxes are designed to handle multiple bands (up to 5, I think?) and I'm sure they've done the materials and labor analysis to figure out if it's more efficient to mail them in different sized boxes vs different sized inserts.

That said, I'd be just fine if they stopped "personalizing" the bands with printed names and handed them out, with color options, at my resort...or if they wanted to keep the "personalized" aspect, just make it a smaller package and have it delivered to the resort room.

But, they want the integration features with DME at MCO and the charging to start at the MCO Disney Store (and end there as well)...so...I'm sure there's a further analysis they've done for this.

I was traveling there alone I wouldn't care about personalizing them... but when you have a family and everyone has the same color it helps to know which ones are the kids and which ones belong to which person.

I love it. How many threads do we have complaining about how Disney has made cuts to "little touches" that make the experience feel special in the name of saving a few dollars. Yet here we are complaining that one of those "little touches" is unnecessary.

I have 200-and-something days until my next Disney trip. Every piece of mail I receive from them builds excitement and anticipation. I can only imagine the effect is magnified when you have kids old enough to understand (my daughter is not yet 1).

Don't let the naysayers get you down... they are probably the same folks that think recycling is a good thing (dirty little secret is recycling doesn't make sense for most things).

Yeah it costs more energy to convert the stuff into reusable product than its worth.

Don't get me started on the dangers to the environment caused by a Prius battery.

What do either of these things have to do with too many magic bands?

So, its an insult to our intelligence to avoid making an actual point. Understood.
Absolutely not. I consider myself intelligent but I'm sure I'm misinformed about many things. In the case of environmental matters as they relate to Disney mailings and MagicBands, I believe you are misinformed.

Where am I misinformed? Does Disney not send more magic bands than needed? Do they not have the information available to stop that process? They do it because its cheaper and because it benefits them to do so. But you can't make any argument that it wouldn't be less wasteful to send less mailers and fewer magic bands.

Really so mailings that some people would rather not get do not waste paper...same thing with multiple magicbands...again no way to decline one? Using simple addition, if you never produce and mail the paper, its less paper being used, less ending up taking space in my trash, thats not a concept that is actual physical proof. But please explain where we are misinformed.

I missed going to WDW last year, so all of these new "mailings" are kind of nice to me. But, if we go next year, I would agree that sending out all of that "fancy" stuf wouldn't be necessary.;)
