Enchanted Tiki Room closing for month long refurbishment

Everything you listed. Space Mountain was the last total up of a major refurb planned purely by TDO. It was so bad that Burbank have deemed in future for all projects of that (original) scope to be run and green lit by them. But so far as the ticked refurb boxes go, Space Mountain is complete.

Blame Phil Holmes and Meg Crofton.

Well thats kinda good news they are taking the helm over TDO on projects like that in the future, but those two just need to go already.

From what I've heard, the refurb isn't necessarily cancelled, but its going to happen in a way that the Tiki room doesn't need to be closed. Apparently parts of it will be noticeable as it happens, but not enough to merit closing the show. Thats just what I've heard, don't know much more than that unfortunately. If that's true, it's nice to know the Tiki Room is getting at least a little love. For what its worth, last weekend, aside from a few somewhat stationary wall Tikis, I thought it was looking pretty good, and I'm actually pretty critical of these things.

Plenty of things will continue to happen third shift. It's too far down the line now for some improvements not to happen.

Well, you mean complete for now until the next refurb cycle which could be a couple of years from now, a few years from now, or several years now. Hopefully, no later than that. Is this doable, or do we have to a number of years that's more than than the count of fingers on two hands?
I wish it were single digits. But I fear not.

How did Burbank find out it was bad? On one everyone says they aren't paying attention to the parks and letting P&R run itself but somehow they knew Space Mountain got a refurb and it was poor in their eyes? I'm confused

It's not exactly an A ticket is it? If we knew, don't you think the parent company would?

I saw your name mentioned on some other sites and blogs and news articles, by the way, over your statement about Uni's third gate. Before Uni purchased the Wet & Wild land, everyone speculated they would build a new water park on land they owned at the time when the Wet & Wild lease expired. We all knew their plans included a water park on land Uni owned, but now we know that Wet & Wild is that park. The third gate rumor (that you started) came out at around the same time the water park rumor did. If you follow the logic of the water park, we see it is easier for them to buy land on an existing park. One must logically conclude that Uni's third park, a small fourth park, and an additional water park HAS ALREADY BEEN BUILT on property SOUTH of the Orange County Convention Center. This property is not (yet) owned by Uni and its current owner said it is for sale. The property is none other than Sea World.

The huge property Uni used to own just north of the convention center was sold off years ago, but before they sold it, they sold the land adjacent to the convention center to the convention center for the expansion of the center. Such a sale to Orange County benefits Sea World - Uni's major I-drive competitor. This sale is clearly not in Uni's interest because it helps the competition more than it helps them. So, why would they do it, unless they weren't thinking - even back then - on acquiring them?

USO and DLR have a lot in common on so many levels. Soon, both may have another commonality - being on land adjacent to major convention facilities that are both coincidentally named Orange County.

What about the flowers? Past few trips they've barely moved... I actually forgot how much they did actually move till I watched this video...:

It was removed to make space for the Tiki Goddess AA in the UNM version. It was not brought back for budget reasons.

In other words they were being cheap.....but I am still happy they brought back the original show even in its shortened version.

I do think that at some time when they do refurb the equipment forcing a shut down for a couple weeks that they should bring it back...the current smoke machine is really something we could all pull off at home lol

No thank you.

I thought you did not like the Tiki Room so why would you care if we who do bring our Dole Whips into the show?

A show such as the Tiki Room should live or die on its own merits. Obviously in DL they allow Dole Whips to be brought into the Tiki Room as an incentive to gather as many guest's as possible for each show. Without the Dole Whips, the DL Tiki Room would most likely have joined CBJ.

At WDW if such a dangerous precedent is set, there will be no end in sight. Other under performing attractions will start allowing food items in their shows as well just to compete. You'll see giant turkey legs in CoP and churros in CBJ while others will eat a quick lunch inside Mickey's PhilharMagic. At The Hall of Presidents people will have time for a full course dinner with dessert.

This is the kind of thing that needs to be nipped in the bud.

I'm not sure if you are serious or not...so for now I will assume that you are kidding.

I realize that my post may have sounded insensitive, and I apologize for that. After I went back and read it I could easily have sounded like I had a tone...

You personally, and your post individually, may not have delayed the refurb. And, you are obviously allowed to be bummed about the attraction not being open. I would be too. Most people don't take multiple trips to WDW per year, and many don't take annual trips. So, when something isn't operational during your trip, it can be years before you see it again. I remember being at EPCOT in October 1999, for the first time in several years, and not being able to ride Horizons. I was heading to college that following fall, so it was the last trip I would be able to take to WDW for a long time. As bummed as I was at the time, I was actually pumped to ride Horizons again after its "refurb" when I would eventually, someday return. Sadly, we all know how that one worked out...

More recently, I remember when Living with the Land was closed a few years back during my short vacation down to WDW. We were bummed. I actually called WDW to ask if the information I had was correct - and they confirmed it. They also told me that many, many people had called to complain and protest the short ride closure. Now, it is unlikely that a single complaint would delay a refurb. But, I worry that the attitude within the WDW management is that it is better to let an attraction rot than face the barrage of complaints that result from a period of closure, and that the attitude is a result of people complaining. Maybe I am wrong. But, it is something I think about.

And then I had this thought: what if Disney DID listen to my post? What if you were right ALL ALONG

Just exited the Tiki Room. One side of the seats is completely walled off.

Sorry I don't know how to post photos. I sent a photo to Steve via twitter.

Show is at half capacity.
Thanks!

Here is that pic.
